The diplomatic tiff between Kenya and Tanzania over Corona virus escalated to new heights after the latter trashed test results conducted on truck drivers at the Namanga border.
A scathing statement signed by Arusha Regional Commissioner Mrisho Gambo accused Kenyan authorities of trying to sabotage tourism in Tanzania by flaring up the number Covid-19 positive cases among Tanzania truck drivers.
The Regional Commissioner trashed test results as released by Kenyan authorities and issued counter results on same subjects as tested by Tanzania National Laboratory.
“In efforts to confirm reliability of Covid-19 test results, we took samples from 19 drivers from Tanzania who had been tested and declared positive by Kenya authorities at Namanga border on Kenyan side.
After these samples were submitted to our main National Laboratory in Dar es Salaam, the results came back as negative for all these drivers from Tanzania. Arusha region is confident that this is a deliberate sabotage strategy designed by Kenya against our tourism industry in Arusha and Tanzania at large.” Gambo said
Tanzania has come under sharp criticism over her approach to the contagious virus that has killed nearly 400000 globally. The east African populous state last issued a public update on the number of infections on 29th April.
The country’s leadership suspects a high level collusion between elements within the National Lab and international conspirators to flare the number of Corona virus cases. However, random videos of people dying in the streets have emerged from Tanzania in recent days. The country’s leadership is still adamant that the virus is not as lethal as projected and is considering reopening other activities frozen to prevent spread.
