I remember David Ndii falsely claiming that the SGR can only do a maximum of 8.7 Million tons p.a at current configuration, he has just been proven wrong and I will show you why in a minute.
Let me quote that report once more:
14 pairs of trains (of which only one was double stacked - we have the potential to make all of them double stacked! so the capacity to carry more cargo exist!) ferried 2190 TEUs setting a new record since the SGR freight service started operating.
Now, on that day of 21 Mar, the containers were available (demand) and that's why the SGR carried them, So now we know for sure that if demand for SGR was that high every single day, the SGR can carry at least 2190 TEUs every single day for a whole year!
2190 TEUs * 365 days =
799,350 TEUs p.a
If I remember correctly, Daresalaam port last year did about 750,000 TEUs which was about 15 to 16 million tons.. So we have the potential and capability to carry more cargo than what the entire Dar port handles with the current trains we have at the current configuration we have ..... So to all the naysayers who doubted Kenya SGR's carrying capacity 💉💉💉💉. If the demand was there we could do 22 Million tons without breaking a sweat! I forsee this record of 2190 TEUs in a day bieng broken over and over again every 2 to 3 months until we reach a point where this 2190 TEU is the average daily performance.
