=====
The High Court has awarded Ksh.44.5 million in damages to a patient who suffered brain damage as a result of an operation gone wrong 14 years ago at Nairobi Hospital.
Further, High Court Judge George Odunga awarded the parents of the patient Ksh.1 million.
Anesthetist Dr. Praxedes Mandu Okutuyi and Nairobi Hospital will bear the costs.
The patient’s parents sued the hospital on behalf of their son who at the time of the operation was a Form Four candidate at St. Mary’s High School.
They wanted the hospital held liable for their son’s brain damage as he behaves like a six-year-old.
They said the son would not have suffered the damage if the hospital machines were in good working condition.
