MY TAKE
A new scandal installed rolling stock capacity is 8 man tonnes (8 trains per day) instead of much hyped 22 mln tonnes (3:30 to 4:46 min). I wanna know if this chinese SGR still a first class grade since no sensors n capacity way below the figures stated.

A renowned economist Dr. Ndii says to break even SGR train needs 50 trips a day impossible on that single track. This Chinese made SGR is a true bad choice for Kenya.

I have always asked myself, if Kenya SGR is really class 1, what class is the rail in China cause the one in China looks, works way better than the one in Kenya. I am very sure the one in Kenya isn't class 1 like the contractors claim.

I also shockingly learned today that the China Road and Bridge Corp. (CRBC) was once blacklisted from doing any projects funded by the world bank due to fraudulent charges ( Are 'blacklisted' Chinese firms on board Duterte's infra projects? ). I think Kenya should have done a throught and competetive bidding process in this SGR project.
But offered a project in Kenya where apparently project financed by China's Eximbank n CRBC are designing, constructing, consulting n now now are operating. Uthamawaki ni ciao..

A government does not operate like a commercial entity. Governments build things for the public good, not by looking at the profit prospects.
The SGR train will contribute more to the economy indirectly in terms of new opportunities, opening up new towns, skills, time saved, etc.
If the government operated the way Ndii thinks, then it would never build roads unless they are toll roads. It would never build hospitals unless they are profit-making.. etc.

To recap, SGR was not built to make profits.
