Retired Lt Gen Peter Elwelu served as Deputy Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) from June 2021 to March 2024. Earlier he commanded UPDF Land Forces and the Second Division. He led the 2016 Kasese operation on the Rwenzururu palace and was sanctioned by the United States in 2024 for alleged gross human rights violations.

In a series of posts made on X. Gen Muhoozi,

declared Elwelu a "traitor" and said he was stripped of his ranks and demoted to Private. announced the arrest of more than 20 of Elwelu's former soldiers, and of Elwelu's wife. posted a photograph of firearms he said were recovered from one of Elwelu's homes in Teso, and gave Elwelu "hours" to surrender or be declared a rebel.

Gen. Kahinda Otafiire has his own fight with Muhoozi. Muhoozi threatened to have him arrested. On 2 October 2026 Muhoozi demanded an apology within three days, saying security forces would otherwise arrest him.

Claim:

A post circulating on X claims that Gen Kahinda Otaffire said Gen Muhoozi planted fire arms in Elwelus house to create a scene.

Findings:

There is no record of such statement. JamiiCheck's search of Ugandan news coverage on the Elwelu matter did not find any report, transcript, recording, or social media post in which Gen. Kahinda Otafiire claims that Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba planted weapons. Instead, the recent public remarks attributed to Otafiire focused on political tolerance, violence, and his distance from the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), not on Elwelu.

Verdict: False/Misattributed:

There is no evidence that Gen. Otafiire said Muhoozi planted firearms in Gen. Elwelu's house
