Mere insertion is sufficient for consummation!
Consummation need not to be done right away. Just in reasonable time depending on the facts of each case!
To understand how the law operates we must go back to history and the purpose which such law intended to achieve. Now, given the current settings the concept might be seen silly and stupid. There are some traditions where after a marriage has been concluded by the minister (religious) a man might have to wait at least one week to have his wife. Thats notwithstanding, the couple will remain married. The effect is not to allow any subsequent marriage as between parties save where it was polygamous one. Now suppose the man becomes importent before entering her. Can she say to have been legally married. Yes, she can if she chooses. But she can avoid that marriage on ground of non consummation.
