Nominated MP Oburu Oginga on Friday sensationally accused some East African Community leaders of plotting to assassinate his brother Raila Odinga for allegedly undermining them.

But Dr Oginga’s claim was quickly dismissed by State House spokesman Manoah Esipisu, who called it “cheap, unfounded and demeaning to the integrity and the agenda of EAC leaders” who met last week at Safari Park Hotel, Nairobi.

Without naming names, the Nominated MP who is an elder brother of the Cord leader claimed that “some of the Presidents of the EAC countries have a personal agenda in the region which they fear can’t be achieved with the ODM leader around”.

That was the reason the alleged plot to kill the former Prime Minister was supposedly hatched during a recent meeting at Safari Park where the Kenya National Electronic Single Window System was launched, Dr Oginga told a press conference in Bondo.

Present at the launch were Presidents Uhuru Kenyatta (Kenya), Yoweri Museveni (Uganda), Paul Kagame (Rwanda) and Salva Kiir Mayardit (South Sudan).

Mr Odinga travelled to the US two months ago to give a series of lectures in Boston, Massachusetts.

“I have received information from a very credible source that some powerful individuals within the East African Community want Raila Odinga dead,” Dr Oginga said, adding that the plot was to kill Mr Odinga on his return from the US.

“The fact that Mr Odinga enjoys a massive following in the region is also a reason why they want to kill him,” he said.

'CHEAP WORDS'

Dismissing the claim, Mr Esipisu told Dr Oginga to channel his energies elsewhere instead of engaging in dangerous talk.

“We wish to dismiss the malicious, ungrounded and unfounded allegations with the contempt they deserve. The Heads of States from the East African Community have a noble agenda of serving their citizens and are not ready to be distracted by the cheap words of Oburu,” he said.

Inspector-General of Police David Kimaiyo said he had not received any reports on the alleged plot.

“The matter has not been brought to my attention. It has not been reported to any police station but if we get the report, we will investigate immediately,” he said on the telephone.

This was the second time in two years that an ODM MP has raised allegations about a plot to assassinate the former PM who is expected back in the country at the end of the month.

In 2012, Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo claimed some senior officials in government at the time had planned to kill the former prime minister, allegations that were denied by the government.

“Mr Jakoyo Midiwo told us of a similar plot and was dismissed. I also said the same at a conference at the Bomas of Kenya and no one bothered to respond,” said Dr Oginga, explaining that his brother’s extended tour of the US had nothing to do with the plot since he wasn’t aware of it.

EAST AFRICAN PRESIDENTS PLOT TO KILL RAILA - OBURU

NOMINATED MP Oburu Oginga yesterday sensationally claimed that there was a plot to assassinate former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

The allegations were swiftly dismissed by State House as "nonsense".

Speaking in Kisumu, Oburu, the elder brother to the ODM party leader, said the East Africa Community leadership is behind the plot to eliminate Raila.

"We managed to get the information from a reliable source who also happened to have attended the meeting to plan the assassination," Oburu said.

Oburu claimed that the top leadership from East Africa recently met in Nairobi to secretly plan the assassination of Raila when he returns to Kenya from his US trip.

Raila has been at the African Presidential Centre at the Boston University for the last two months as part of an academic programme that hosts former top leaders from Africa.

President Uhuru Kenyatta's spokesman dismissed the allegations as "nonsense" and "cheap talk".

"It is total nonsense. There is no reason that anyone would want to assassinate Hon. Raila Odinga. That cheap talk has to come to an end," Manoah told the Star on the telephone.

Uhuru is the current chairman of the East African Community. Last week he hosted Rwanda President Paul Kagame, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and South Sudan President Salva Kiir in Nairobi.

The four leaders discussed the Northern Corridor Integration Projects that will link Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and South Sudan.

Oburu was speaking on the sidelines of the inaugural graduation ceremony of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology. He also he urged the CORD leadership to come out strongly and defend democracy.

Oburu said government needed to quickly intervene to ensure Raila's safety and avert possible public unrest.
Oburu claimed that the EAC leadership blamed Raila for the present social economic challenges facing Kenya and threatening its future development.

He added that the allegations were not intended to seek political mileage.

Oburu said that at the Bomas constitutional meeting he disclosed similar attempts to eliminate his brother.
The nominated MP demanded for urgent investigations and said that he was willing to record a statement with the police.
He claimed that the security apparatus in Kenya was involved in the formation and execution of the assassination plot.

Oburu warned that President Uhuru Kenyatta and his leadership should take full responsibility if anything happened to his brother.

"It is the inalienable right of every citizen of this country including Raila to be protected by the security apparatus," declared Oburu.

"We have realized that the government wants to benefit from mega corruption scandals, hence their intention to gag the progressive forces from the opposition," Oburu said.

Oburu lamented that the champions of the struggle for democracy are being targeted for elimination.

unakumbuka jakoyo midiwo erupted with the same wild allegations and fled to south africa
This is the routine of any opposition that has no constructive engagements probably working with interpol. The world has become a small global village

Does this has anything to do with Raila's opposition on the way the Mombasa-Kigali Railways deal has been handled?😕
I have no idea what transpired greedy among those three COW leaders? Might be a reason...one thing he needs to know, he has a safe house in TZ we received him in 1980s and we will offer him a safe haven in 2014!

I sympathize with old mzee.

Jaduong Oburu Odinga.

Why do i say so🙂🙂??

Because his only brother, his savior and the one who propelled him in
high places and offices in this country called Kenya, is in the cold.

And to make it even worst, he, Oburu, is not an MP, Governor
wished to be but never was, he is completely out of the Kenyan
politics and so life is not that rosy.

So to make himself heard once again and make it felt that he is
still around, he does not say that people or leaders want to kill
him, the way Kenyan politicians do when they want to make
themselves relevant, he, Oburu uses his brother's name so that
there can be an impact.

Who is Raila odinga in east Africa??????

So the leaders in east Africa want to kill him???

Why can't he go to their FBI🙂 and inform them that
these leaders wants to kill eeeee, very funny and is making
laugh,,,,,

Accod'n to kenya politico this can be on trend let watch but they must know odinga is the most likable in kenya it can turn just like rwanda

REVEALED: WETANGULA/ KIKWETE behind RAILA ODINGA’s assassination claims.

Sunday May 11, 2014 - Tanzania President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete and Bungoma Senator, Moses Wetangula, are individuals behind former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga’s assassination claims, The Kenya DAILY POST has finally established.

In an admission by a well placed source in ODM, Wetangula and Kikwete met at State House, Arusha on May 5th where they discussed regional security issues including the assassination claims of CORD leader, Raila Odinga.

Kikwete said Tanzania’s intel community has unearthed a conspiracy by three East African Presidents to assassinate former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, when he returns from his two month official visit to the US.

Kikwete said the three East African Presidents led by President Uhuru Kenyatta hatched the idea during the East African Commission (EAC) meeting held at Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi, last month.

The source said Wetangula was very furious with the revelations but Kikwete calmed him down and advised him to keep quiet for a week so that the information can be made public by Raila’s elder brother, Dr Oburu Odinga.

“Kikwete has been having a lukewarm relationship with the three East African Presidents and this might be a wider plan of soiling their names,” one EAC top officials.

He also said Tanzania has the worst intelligence in the world and this might be a “cock and bull” story aimed at tarnishing the image of EAC leaders.
