The heads of regional roads authorities are meeting in Kampala, Uganda to form a new alliance that will discuss East African road corridors, exchange information on work methods of contractors and compare notes on road design and financing.
The summit was attended by officials from Kenya (Kenya National Highway Authority), Uganda (Uganda National Roads Authority), Rwanda, Tanzania (TANROADS), South Sudan and Ethiopia.
The Eastern Africa region has a combined road network of not less than 50,000km serving over 290 million people.
MY TAKE: A step in the right direction. If there is one area we should really cooperate on, it is infrastructure. I dare say that we should even revive the East African Railways and East African Ports Authority. Ownership and management of all international air and sea ports should be ceded to the East African Community.

well something worth reckoning I thought you were up for criticising but coming from you am pleased

Joint programs, Yes.
Joint standards, Yes.
Joint authorities, No.
Right spirit, not so right idea.

am not a fan of this...infact kila mtu angebaki kivyake tu

Yaani tukiungana kielimu mengine yote yatalainika yenyewe.

this is total Bs we will spend tax payer Money deliberating on and on it's final stages some people -Tanzania will pull out......so kwa ubaya but EAC WITH TZ IS A PIPE DREAM . ....

Hehehe sijaangazia hii. Itakuwa vipi kwenye mitihani hasa kwa lugha pendwa. Nani atakuwa mbabe kati ya "Baraza la" na "Chama cha"....

Others may say we can discuss and implement but at the end of the day some people will confiscate...

Then we will disagree on some issue at the end. Why do we keep entertaining this.

Sammuel999, just like Kenya pulled out of Hoima-Tanga pipeline after losing a chance to host the pipeline out of poor infrastructure, KENYA is a true East African indeed!

Sammuel999, the good thing Tanzania knows where to pin u silently without making noises on media! Don't expect ur agenda to be supported while u selfishly sabotage regional infrastructural projects...

thats why am not in support of this....tz ikitoka i will support full

Good initiative, but not if Kenya and Tanzania are into the mix. This deal would only go seamlessly if either of the countries are excluded. Otherwise, their rivalry would only damage these plans for all the rest.

sure, tunatakiwa kuunganisha mifumo yetu ili ifanane, then kila mmoja abaki kusimsmia.

..mtaala na mtihani mmoja kwa eac is a good idea.

Duuh kumbe wakenya mna chuki kiasi hiki? Eti Tanzania iondolewe.......kesheni mkiomba!
sam999 sawa lakini hata wewe Iconoclastes!!

Perhaps it is time we set up joint authorities don't you think?
Joint examinations board like MK254 suggested, of course after setting up a common education area. In fact, the entire docket of higher learning should be handled at the regional level. Universities and vocational training institutions should be directtly under the EAC.
Then tukitoka hapo, we cede international airports and sea ports.
This is how you gradually reach the political federation stage. Watu wakiona EAC inawahusu in their day to day lives, unlike now mtu unaweza ukaishi your whole life without ever knowing of the EAC's existence!

From primary to varsity?

..YES. English should be the language of instructions from primary school to university.

..it will be very tough, but the more we delay making that decision the tougher it gets.

Yeah. I know.
What is the harder part?
The student comes from school with his/her english to meet the parents full of swahili.
We don't have teachers who are very competent in implementing the decision.
What should be done?
5-10 years of adjustments, existing and new teachers should go to school to be trained.
