The heads of regional roads authorities are meeting in Kampala, Uganda to form a new alliance that will discuss East African road corridors, exchange information on work methods of contractors and compare notes on road design and financing.
The summit was attended by officials from Kenya (Kenya National Highway Authority), Uganda (Uganda National Roads Authority), Rwanda, Tanzania (TANROADS), South Sudan and Ethiopia.
The Eastern Africa region has a combined road network of not less than 50,000km serving over 290 million people.
MY TAKE: A step in the right direction. If there is one area we should really cooperate on, it is infrastructure. I dare say that we should even revive the East African Railways and East African Ports Authority. Ownership and management of all international air and sea ports should be ceded to the East African Community.
