Ethiopia pop is very high to that GDP hence low per capita......outside Nairobi Kenya has many to offer western kenya has three cities (Nakuru, eldoret, kisumu) and very many promising towns( kisii, kakamega, bungoma, kitale, kericho etc) these cities and towns are dependent on agriculture people live a quality life than some in Nairobi.
Central kenya has very promising towns (nyeri, meru, embu, nanyuki etc) people here live a quality life and many earn more than some guys in Nairobi.
Coast(Mombasa, malindi, lamu) people here have quality life due to tourism and mining in the area)
Northern kenya(hapa ndio kina shida mostly desert but with discovery of oil and development of lappset this area is the next most developing part of kenya) in the next 3 years you shall see
So kenya is not all about Nairobi

Ethiopia has around the same GDP as Kenya but twice the population. And other cities out of Nairobi are not bad, trust me. And drought was declared because the nothern parts are arid areas, not only human population was under threat, but also wildlife

HDI my silly friend...Human Development Index, Quality of life..DEMOCRACY,EDUCATION,HEALTHCARE,INFRASTRUCTURE,INTERNET CONNECTIVITY,RULE OF LAW,FREEDOMS,SOCIAL LIFE,HOUSING,WATER SUPPLY etc etc.
Those and other factors determine whether you are a High,Middle or Low income banana economy like Tanganyika/LDC.
