For those who think running an airline is like selling cashewnuts, here is the latest from the Middle East.
Emirates, one of the world's largest and most recognizable airline, has announced a full year profit of just $237 million.

We're talking of an airline with 254 planes and another 234 on order.

This profit is smaller than even our small KCB or Equity bank, companies that are unknown outside this region.

Anyway, for those who have been telling airlines to 'buy' planes with cash, this profit is not even enough for a single dreamliner.
If Emirates was not receiving oil money or taking debt, they would need 200 years to achieve current their fleet.

Airlines are a difficult business, margins are low and the capital outlay is very huge.
Mostly they are done for national pride and public facilitation.

You are comparing the apples and coconuts.
Compare thee firms or companies in the same industry.
Now if Emirate announces Kes 23 Billion Profit less than KCB. We ask you again to do the following
Compare KQ with KCB
Compare KQ with Emirates

But this is unfair comparison, coz the two companies are two different industry. Compare the likes.

The intended point of the post has slipped your head. Let me summarize for you.

1. The airline industry is suffering.
2. You can't buy planes 'cash'. Unless you have oil money or your president is a dictator.

It was not meant to be a direct comparison, he was just showing that even with a global well funded and managed airline like Emirates, business is still difficult.. imagine a regional bank like KCB in Africa makes more profit than Emirates.

True, the pride in buying all your planes in cash is not really something to celebrate unless you are swimming in OIL cash,
