English Language thread

Most of the comments on this thread indicate that we lack the four language skills (listening, speaking, writing and reading)
It might be caused by the following factors.
1. The teaching methodologies of our English teachers. Most of them use Swahili language when teaching English.
2. Some students neglect of students the advice given to them on what and how they should do to become good English speakers.
3. Students don't speak English in school compounds since they are afraid of becoming a laughing stock due their broken English. Nevertheless, they feel shy to use it lest they make mistakes.
4. The environment does not give enough room for the students to practise the language. For instance, in school most of the teachers prefer Swahili to English for obvious reasons.

What we see now has deep rooted problems which need deep rooted solutions.

Let's practise the four language skills to improve our language competence and performance
 
That being said.. Its a high time now English be the medium of instruction from pre primary and primary levels of education....
The issue is where to get teachers....

"Where to get teachers" might be a big problem but the biggest problem is "where to get enough competent and committed teachers"

There was a mess up somehow somewhere. My worry is that it is going to take us as long time in rectifying this mistake as it took us create it.

It's never too late to put things right.

so you try to say, you can measure the smartness of someone by only considering is ability to write or speak english?

Bro, what happens when a blind man lead the other?

So, schooling isn't satisfactory in mastering the language. I advice scholars to put more effort in self-learning through reading books, magazines, newsletters et.c. but most important, practice what you learn!!
