I have problem on how to use articles"a" and "the".. May you help me on these items?

Hi Mbobwe. article a: You use it when you mention something for the first time. See this example: I found a book there. A book had a green cover. Here "book" is mentioned twice. In the first time, "a" is OK. In the second time, it's wrong. So, you use "the" when you mention something after the first time. So, it should be: I found a book there. The book had a green cover. ----------You also use "the" for something that is the only one and is known: e.g. The sun (there is only one sun); The moon, The earth, The Nile, The President, etc. -------- Of course there are exceptions, e.g. I cannot say "The Dar es Salaam", but at least, this gives you some starting point.

"a" is normally used for the things mentioned for the first time

But

"The" is used for the things mentioned more than one time.

For example a book but if you mention (book) for the second time you must say The book.

Also The is used for the things which are well known

You can not say a sun instead you must say The sun because sun is well known.

Hey guys how can we improve this thread what things must be added so as to make the thread to be more active?

I'm having problems in this area 1 first person singular and plural 2 second person singular and plural 3 third person singular and plural. I normally mix them so I need your help. If I'm not mistaken grammar is centred there. One day I said loudly "I doesn't understand " people were laughing I thought I was correct but not, I should have said "I don't understand " please show me your office. See you soon

Hi Joseph: Let me talk about does: This comes from the word "do". It's like:
go - goes
walk - walks
speak - speaks

etc

Whenever you use such verbs, they only go with he, she and it.
For example:
She goes there everyday.
He walks to school each morning.
It eats two kilograms of meat every week.

So, those people laughed because you used does with I.
The correct way was: I don't (do not) understand.

All the best friend.

Quite a lot of people make mistakes while using the word "different".

Many would say, for example: What is the different between him and her?

But the correct way is: What is the difference between him and her?

Then how can we differentiate those words?

Different is used when you put a noun before it.
For example:

A book is different from a pen.
This house is different from that one.

But when there is no noun before, we use the word difference.
For example (the same examples above):

The difference between a book and a pen is obvious.
What is the difference between this house and that one?

Different is an adjective
Example : It's very different to what I'm used to.

Difference is a noun
Example : There's no difference in the results.

Just to put it in a nut shell

Which topics should I use to Someone so that he/she can speak English language

Which topics should I use to Someone so that he/she can speak English language
The best way to teach language is the use of the Communicative Language Teaching Approach. This simply means helping a person to speak the way language is spoken. Instead of telling them, this is a noun, this is a verb, an adjective, a subject an object, first person, etc, let the learner deal with the language itself and not linguistic theories.

Now, it does not matter what the topics are. What matters is the approach to teaching.
