Avocado fruits are getting very popular anywhere in the world. Throughout the year, you can find avocado in your nearby supermarkets. Avocado is sometimes called "avocado pear" or "alligator pear", and "Aguacate Palta" in Spanish.

We believe that avocados have originated in Mexico and Central America. In fact, I myself planted four avocado trees 25 years ago, and just a year ago, I added another two in my backyard. One tree bears about 200 pieces of fruit.

Avocado is one of the most recommended fruits as well as a food for bodybuilding and medicine for cholesterol-related heart diseases.

Also, did you know that avocado or an avocado extract is good for prevention or treatment of "breast cancer" as well as "prostate cancer"? Some information states that a toxin found in avocado can kill cancer cell. However, the toxin mentioned here is not identified completely. Scientists believe that the toxin has a great effect on the myocardium (heart muscle tissue) as well as on tissues of the lactating mammary gland.

Although many farmers believe that fresh and dried leaves, bark, skin, and seeds are toxic to cattle, goats, horses, rabbits, and birds, there is no definite scientific explanation for that.

Do not worry about the fruit meat of avocado. There are no dangerous toxic elements for human consumption as well as for animals.

Creamy rich avocado is considered the world's healthiest fruit, because of its nutrient contents such as vitamin K, dietary fiber, potassium, folic acid, vitamin B6, vitamin C, copper, and reasonable calories in it.

Avocados contain "oleic acid", a monounsaturated fat that may help lower cholesterol.

In our studies, patients with high cholesterol levels who ate avocados showed clear health improvements. After a week of avocado diet, patients had significant decrease in cholesterol contents.

Avocado is a good source of potassium, a mineral that helps regulate blood pressure. Adequate intake of potassium can help guard against circulatory diseases, like high blood pressure, heart disease, or stroke.

Diets containing foods that are good sources of potassium and low in sodium may reduce the risk of high blood pressure and stroke. One cup of avocado has about 23% of the Daily Value for folate, a nutrient important for heart health.

Another study showed that individuals who consume folate-rich diets have a much lower risk of cardiovascular disease or stroke than those who do not consume much of this vital nutrient.

Not only avocado has a rich source of monounsaturated fatty acids including oleic acid, which has recently been shown to offer significant protection against breast cancer, but it is also a very concentrated dietary source of the "carotenoid lutein". It also contains measurable amounts of related carotenoids plus significant quantities of vitamin E.

A few slices of avocado in salad, or mixing some chopped avocado into salsa will not only add a rich, creamy flavor, but will greatly increase your body's ability to absorb the health-promoting carotenoids that vegetables provide.

Compared to other fruits or vegetables such as carrots and spinach, just a slice of avocado improves your body's ability to absorb carotenoids.

FAIDA YA TUNDA LA PARACHICHI - PEA (AVOCADO)
Ndani ya tunda hili kuna maji kiasi kidogo sana ukilinganisha na matunda mengine lakini kuna mafuta mengi na unaweza kuchanganya kula na tunda lingine kama vile apple, ndizi, chungwa au hata maziwa kwa kutengeneza juisi.

TINDIKALI
Licha ya kuwa na mafuta parachichi lina tindikali (acid) mbalimbali ikiwemo inayojulikana kama amino ambayo husaidia sana kukinga na kutibu maradhi katika mwili wa binadamu. Tunda hili pia lina protini ya kiwango cha juu.

Pia kuna tindikali inayoitwa oleic acid kwenye parachichi ambayo husaidia kukinga magonjwa ya moyo, kiharusi na kansa.

Wanasayansi wa chuo kikuu cha Michoacana de San Nicolas de Hidalgo cha nchini Mexico wamesema ya kwamba parachichi husaidia katika kuukinga mwili dhidhi ya kemikali hatari (free radicals) na hivyo kuweka kinga dhidhi ya magonjwa mengi pamoja na kumfanya mtu kuonekana kijana (fight against ageing). Wanasayansi hao wamesema kwamba mafuta yanayopatikana katika parachichi yanauwezo wa kupenya hadi ndani ya injini inayotengeneza nishati mwilini inayopatikana katika seli inayojulikana kama mitochondria.

Free radicals ni kemikali zinazosababisha magonjwa mengi yakiwemo baadhi ya saratani, huharibu mishipa ya damu ya ateri (arteries), pamoja na kumfanya mtu kuzeeka haraka. Mafuta yanayopatikana katika baadhi ya mboga za majani, matunda na nyanya/tungule (tomatoes) yanauwezo wa kupambana na kemikali hizi hatari lakini mafuta haya hushindwa kuingia ndani ya mitochondria ambapo ndio kuna kemikali hizi hatari kwa wingi.

Mtafiti Christian Cortes-Rojo kutoka chuo kikuu hicho cha Mexico ambaye ndiye alifanya utafiti huu, alisema ''Anti-oxidants zinazopatikana katika mboga za majani na matunda mengi haziwezi kupenya ndani ya mitochondria na hivyo kushindwa kudhibiti kemikali hatari ndani ya mitochondria hizo. Hivyo kusababisha kemikali hizo hatari kuendelea kushambulia mitochondria na kuziharibu, matokeo yake ni kuwa nishati haitolewi tena kutoka kwenye mitochondria na seli hushindwa kufanya kazi na kufa."


Matokeo ya utafiti huu yalitolewa katika kongamano la kila mwaka la chama cha wataalamu wa mambo ya biochemistry na bayolojia ya viumbe hai kutoka nchini Marekani (American society of biochemistry and molecular biology annual conference).

Kemikali hizi hatari ni uchafu (natural waste products) zinaotolewa na mwili wakati wa kusaga chakula (metabolism), na huweza kutolewa kwa wingi kwa mtu anayevuta sigara,mtu anapokumbana na mionzi (radiation) na hata wakati kukiwa na uchafuzi wa mazingira (pollution). Kemikali hizi uharibu mpangilio wa protini katika muundo wa vina saba (DNA structure).

Wanasayansi hao wakati wanafanya utafiti waliweza kuona ya kwamba mafuta ya parachichi yaliwezesha seli za yeast kuishi kwa muda mrefu kwenye madini chuma licha ya kuwekewa kiwango kikubwa cha madini hayo (exposed tohigh concentration of iron) ambayo ndio hutoa kemikali hizi hatari (free radicals) kwa wingi.

Mtafiti Christian Cortes-Rojo alisema "Tunahitaji kuthibitisha ya kwamba kile tulichoona katika seli za yeast kinaweza kutokea kwenye seli za binadamu". Katika tafiti ambazo ziliwahi kufanyika huko nyuma nchini Mexico, nchi inayoongoza kwa uzalishaji wa parachichi duniani, zilionyesha ya kwamba parachichi hupunguza kiwango cha lehemu (blood cholesterol) mwilini na pia hupunguza baadhi ya mafuta yanayohusishwa na ugonjwa wa kisukari.

Mafuta ya parachichi yana virutubisho sawa na mafuta ya olive oil yanayohusishwa kwa kusaidia kupunguza lehemu mwilini pamoja na kinga dhidhi ya magonjwa mengi sugu kama inavyoonekana kwa watu wanaoishi katika nchi za mediteranean ambao ni watumiaji wazuri wa mafuta haya ya olive oil.

Parachichi hupatikana kwa wingi nchini Tanzania katika mikoa ya Tanga (Lushoto), na Mbeya hivyo ni muhimu kuboresha kilimo cha matunda haya ili kuweza kuboresha afya za wananchi. Kwa muda mrefu wanasayansi wamekuwa wakiita parachichi kama mfalme wa matunda kutokana na kuwa na virutubisho vingi kuliko tunda jingine lolote duniani.Hivyo, usisahau kula/kutumia parachichi mara kwa mara kwa afya njema.

Parachichi linaweza kuliwa kama mtu atakavyopenda, wapo watu wanaopenda kula bila kuchanganya na kitu kingine, lakini pia parachichi linaweza kuliwa kwa kupaka kwenye mkate badala ya Blue Band. Halikadhalika parachichi linaweza kuliwa kwa kuchanganya na nyanya, vitunguu, ndimu na chumvi kidogo kama kachumbari ya kipekee.

VIRUTUBISHO VYA PARACHICHI


Kwa ujumla, parachichi ni chanzo kizuri cha
Vitamini K, Vitamini B6 na Vitamini C.
Aidha, tunda hili lina kiwango kizuri cha virutubisho aina ya Folate, kopa na ufumwele (Fiber). Fiber ni muhimu katika kuwezesha mtu kupata choo

laini na bila matatizo. Bila kusahau kwamba tunda hili ni chanzo kizuri pia cha madini ya Potasiamu: ina kiwango kikubwa kuliko hata ndizi.

Ingawa parachichi ni tunda, lakini lina kiwango kikubwa cha mafuta (fats) ambayo yanakadiriwa kuwa kati ya asilimia 71 – 88, kiwango ambacho ni cha juu kwa asilimia 20 ukilinganisha na matunda mengine. Kwa wastani, parachichi moja lina gramu 30 za mafuta, lakini kati ya hizo, gramu 20 ni za

mafuta mazuri kiafya

Utafiti zaidi kuhusu tunda hili unamalizia kwa kusema kwamba parachichi lina takribani aina 20 za Vitamin, madini na virutubisho muhimu
