Tanzania can leverage its coastal resources, railway system, and fishing activities to build a better future over the next 5 years:
5.By doing so, the employement od youth will be there hence decreasing the numbee of dependant people. And minimizing the poverty in some aocieties.
- Bahari ya Hindi (Indian Ocean):
- Sustainable Marine Management: Strengthen marine conservation efforts. Projects like Heshimu Bahari (Respect the Ocean) aim to enhance ecological resilience and productivity in high marine biodiversity areas1. By promoting sustainable marine protected areas (MPAs) and co-management with communities, Tanzania can ensure long-term benefits from its ocean resources.
- Blue Economy: Invest in the blue economy. Initiatives like Bahari Mali focus on sustainable coastal development, benefiting both livelihoods and ecosystems2. This includes responsible fishing practices, aquaculture, and tourism.
- Railway System:
- Efficient Transport: Optimize the existing railway infrastructure. Improve connectivity between regions, enhance cargo transport, and facilitate trade. A well-functioning railway system boosts economic growth and reduces road congestion.
- Investment in Modernization: Upgrade and expand rail networks. High-speed trains, electrification, and efficient freight transport can transform Tanzania’s economy. Collaboration with private sector partners can accelerate progress.
- Fishing Activities:
- Sustainable Fishing Practices: Promote responsible fishing. Implement quotas, size limits, and seasonal closures to prevent overfishing. Engage local communities in resource management.
- Value Addition: Enhance fish processing and value chains. Diversify products beyond fresh fish to include processed items like fish fillets, canned fish, and fish oil. This creates jobs and adds value to exports.
- Aquaculture Development: Invest in fish farming. Aquaculture reduces pressure on wild fish stocks and provides a stable income source for coastal communities.
