Fury after Kamukunji police detain Robert Alai for 'publishing sensitive story'

Robert Alai is being detained at Kamukunji police station following his arrest on Mombasa Road for penning a 'sensitive story'.

A senior police officer said the blogger has been at the station since Friday over the story touching on a prominent personality.

Central OCPD Robinson Thuku said Alai was booked by Special Crimes Prevention Unit.

"It is only them know why they arrested him."

Bloggers protested the arrest which followed the story their counterpart ran on his Kahawatungu site.

The blogger said officers from the SCPU ordered him out of the car at gunpoint.

"They forced me into another car before being taken to Kamkunji police station," he said on Twitter before pulling down the post.


It is not clear whether he will be charged.

Twitter user are now demanding for the release of Alai under the hashtag [HASHTAG]#FreeAlai[/HASHTAG].

Cyprian Nyakundi criticised the Jubilee government for brewing bad blood with bloggers in the country.

"Before you work with Jubilee as a blogger, think about Blogger Bogonko Bosire who disappeared and now Arrest of Robert Alai [HASHTAG]#FreeAlai[/HASHTAG]."

Days to the August 8 polls, Alai was said to be working for the ruling Jubilee Party and playing negativity for the opposition NASA.

"My biggest concern with police has always been manipulation by the elite. We must not allow the elite take away our freedom of speech," Kenneth Ojuok said.

Breaking the law for publishing Kenyatta's family photo, or saying there was a death in the Kenyatta's family? Isn't that private matter?

'sensitive' lets face it...these bloggers are not necessarily angels...they publish fake news and cause ethnic divisions...as much as we support media freedom, these bloggers sometimes cross the line...wengine wanatunga habari ili muradi tu wapate traffic na watengeneze pesa...hawana nia ya kuwakilisha ukweli wa mambo...

nasema tu ukweli wala sina nia ya kuingilia mambo ya watanzania...mmeleta uzi unaozungumzia freedom ya wanahabari...nami nawakilisha maoni yangu kuhusu rais wenu...ina maana ile show ya XYZ haiwezi ikafanya kazi huko Tz? huo ni ungwana kweli? Gado si ni wenu? ila akichora anachorea huku Kenya na wala sio huko maana atawekwa ndani mara moja...that is not the way to go...thats why he is a dictator...Magu ni rais mzuri sana kwa bidii na kupinga maovu kama kupiga dili ila ukija kwa demokrasia, ana madoa mengi mno...usishangae akisimama tena baada ya miaka kumi kama Mu7 na Kagame...

Hata huku huwa anachorwa kwenye katuni, ukiweka matusi ama uchochezi ndio inakuwa shida. Masudi Kipanya huwa anamchora Magufuli sana lakini haguswi na mtu.

Yes, wapo wanaoweka fake news labda hata na huyo Alai nawekaga fake news. But this time ameweka na picha kabisa to support his claim. Najuwa ni kitu sensitive na inahusu first family, lakini hata polisi wameshindwa kuendelea kumshika kwasababu hajatenda kosa.

basi mbona hio ni sawa tu...unajua mimi huwa nasoma habari tu...mara nyingi habari hizi zamchora rais wenu kama rais asiyependa watu kuwa na uhuru wa kujieleza...sijui yanayoendelea mashinani tz...sijawahi fika Bongo mie....ila ntakuja tu Mola akikubali
