Unruly Gor Mahia fans torch police and Nairobi County vehicle

A crowd of Gor- Mahia fans on Wednesday evening torched two vehicles belonging to the Nairobi City Council and a traffic police officer's car after three of their fans were knocked down by the city council vehicle. The fans set ablaze the city council Nissan Datsun vehicle and in the process the second vehicle, a Toyota Corolla belonging to a traffic oficer caught fire in the process.

The 7:45 p.m. incident at Moi Avenue paralysed traffic in the middle of the Central Business District after the fans went on a rampage to revenge their colleagues. People had to scamper for safety after the Gor fans went chasing after the vehicle that sped off after the accident.

Eye witness Joseph Kiragu, told the Standard that the Gor fans were in the middle of the street chanting and celebrating their victory when a City Council truck ran over three of them who were critically injured.

Kiragu said that the vehicle then sped off leaving the crowd of Gor fans settling their anger on the two vehicles.

"I was just sitting on these benches waiting to go home and was watching the Gor fans celebrate their weekend victory as they headed to their spot at The Tom Mboya Statue. Suddenly a City council askari vehicle came and made a U- turn on the road and hit three of the fans before it speeding off," said Kiragu.

The witness said the agitated fans who were celebrating around the Kenya National Archives building descended on the Nairobi City Council's Nissan Datsan vehicle that was parked along the street, tilted and rolled it before seting it ablaze.

"The second one caught fire when fuel from the first car spilled and reached it catching fire almost immediately the other one started burning. The same fire also caught the Toyota belonging to the traffic officer," said Kiragu.

Police who arrived at the scene after 30 minutes had to disperse people who had crowded at the scene oblivious of the danger of the burning car that was at risk of exploding.

Like I said, nobody is clean. None of the Kenyan politicians have even the pretensions to sainthood. All of them have their strengths and weakenesses.

But the majority of them have contributed a great deal for the good of Kenya. Hate him or not, Raila Odinga is one such person. He in the previous years has steadfastly fought for democracy, nearly even loosing his life for that cause.
He may not have accomplished a great deal on the development front, (yes, even the luos admit to that fact) but on the freedom and democracy that we enjoy in Kenya today, that even rivals that in the western countries, mnyake, give this man some credit man.

RAO enjoys immense support in luoland. That is why whoever he endorses is most assured of winning, to the chagring of the person's opponents

NB: it isnt true that the Luos are the poorest tribe in Kenya. Infact Bondo county is currently ranked the 8th wealthiest county in Kenya.
If luos are the 'poorest', what then would u say of Turkana or Mandera?
