Police have recovered a submachine gun and 31 rounds of ammunition from Mungujayi village in Kuluba Sub-County, Koboko District.

West Nile Regional Police spokesperson Josephine Angucia said the firearm, serial number 2685, was discovered on Wednesday evening by Muki Masayi, who was cutting grass at a site where he planned to build a house.

Masayi reportedly alerted the Koboko Resident District Commissioner’s office and the District Internal Security Officer, who responded and recovered the weapon.

“The gun has been exhibited as evidence at Koboko CPS pending further investigation,” Angucia said.

Police are investigating the recovery as security agencies continue to monitor developments along the Uganda–South Sudan border.
