Nigerian businessmen have been awarded seven oil blocs for exploration from the 46 newly discovered oil blocks in Kenya, Dr Kiprono Kittony, the Chairman of the Nigeria-Kenya Chamber of Commerce has said.

The chairman made the disclosure in Abuja on Monday at a meeting with prominent businessmen from both countries.

The meeting was part of activities lined up for the state visit of President Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya to Nigeria.

The closing session of the business meeting was presided over by Presidents Goodluck Jonathan and Kenyatta.

Kittony said the Joint Nigeria-Kenya Chamber of Commerce, inaugurated during a state visit of President Jonathan to Kenya in September last year, had yielded fruits.

During the President’s visit to Nairobi, Kenyan authorities had offered the 46 newly discovered oil blocks to interested Nigerian investors in the oil and gas industry to develop.

The chamber chairman added that it was exciting to see Nigerian investors coming to Kenya after the Jonathan visit, stressing that Kenyan Airways had increased the number of flights to Lagos to 10 in a week and promised to enhance the capacity of flights.

He noted that Kenyan Airways would from June 6, start direct flight to Abuja. Kittony said there had been investments in the financial sector with three Nigerian banks now operating in Kenya, noting that “in the next four years, we will see increased business cooperation and flow of trade.

“We appreciate the support we got from government of both countries.'' Kittony added that about 41 top business men from eight sectors accompanied President Kenyatta on the state visit, saying “we have representation from the
manufacturing, hospitality, healthcare and financial services.

“We also have representations from information and communication technology, agriculture, cotton, textile and the real estate.”

Alhaji Aliko Dangote, the Co-Chairman of the Joint Chamber of Commerce and Nigeria’s business mogul, said eight companies from Kenya had established offices in Nigeria.

Dangote, who was represented by his brother, Sanni Dangote, said that in the area of food and beverages, Kenyan tea was now very popular in Nigerian markets.

He disclosed that there was a proposed establishment of hospitality training institute in Nigeria with technical support from Kenya.

Dangote added that given the immense popularity of the Nigerian movie industry in Africa, Nollywood’s proposed movie institute to be established in Nigeria would assist in the training of Kenyan actors.

  • Kenyan diplomat says Kenya and Nigeria are working on a 5-year visa for business people that will ease their movement between the two countries.

The government on Sunday defended President Kenyatta’s trip to Nigeria even as he came under attack from Kenyans on social media over his absence in the country during the recent terror attacks.

Kenya's High Commissioner to Nigeria, Ambassador Tom Amolo, said the visit to Nigeria was winning Kenya multiple gains through bilateral deals.

Mr Amolo said that Nigerian top business magnate Aliko Dangotewas was already finalizing his efforts to set up a Sh52 billion cement plant in Kenya.

He added that Kenya and Nigeria are also working on a 5-year visa for businesspeople that will ease their movement between the two countries.

FRUSTRATED KENYANS

“The reason why we are doing this is because Nigeria is Africa’s largest country in terms of population and economy. If you want business to succeed, make sure you are in Nigeria. That is why President Kenyatta is coming with one of the largest business delegations,” Mr Amolo said.

Frustrated Kenyans on Twitter went were angry over what they saw as misplaced priorities in the president’s calendar, faulting President Kenyatta’s decision to go to Nigeria even after a twin bomb attack rocked Mombasa on Saturday.

@Makondigo, under the infamous hash tag #SomeoneTellUhuruKenyatta, decried the choice to go to Nigeria, a country he accused of neglecting the 234 girls abducted a month ago and who are still missing.....

  • The publication quotes Mr Kiprono Kittony, chair of Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KNCCI), as the source of the news.

Nigerians have made a second claim to Kenyan oil blocs, with newspapers saying businessmen from the western Africa country have been allocated seven blocs. The Kenya delegation denies the allegations.

President Uhuru Kenyatta is in Abuja, Nigeria, for three-day State visit. He is expected to seal several bilateral trade deals.

"Kenya awards seven oil blocs to Nigerian businessmen," reported Nigeria's Premium Times, which was the first to break the news at around midday.

Seven other publications also run the story.

"I am in Nigeria and we have not licensed any oil blocs," said Mr Hudson Andambi, senior principal superintending geologist in charge of petroleum.

ALLOCATED 46 OIL BLOCS
Last year in September, Nigerian Minister for Petroleum Resources Diezani Alison-Madueke said Kenya had allocated 46 oil blocs to investors in her country.

She is reported to have told the State-run News Agency of Nigeria after President Goodluck Jonathan's visit to Kenya that the concession was given in talks preceding an investment forum in Nairobi on September 6.

The publication quotes Mr Kiprono Kittony, chair of Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KNCCI), as the source of the news.

Mr Kittony also chairs the Nigeria-Kenya Chamber of Commerce, a group of prominent businessmen from both countries. He has denied making the claims.

I dont support the president hopping out of the country at every available opportunity but this piece of news is just the writers opinion, you dont say cheap and fail to throw in the numbers or does it mean when it's given to an african it must be cheap?

National assets should not be sold to the highest bidder, and without the involvement of the local communities. If this story is true, expect fireworks!

Nigeria is a cesspit, and I am dumbfounded by Kenya's full on embrace of that country. By all means, that country is an oil station, and there is very little, in the way of digging holes into the ground, that Kenyans stand to learn from Nigeria.

The fact that the locals are not involved speaks volumes...but yet again, what do you expect from this tribal
outfit of a gava? This thing reeks of all manner of injustice and corruption and that's what Kenyans should
brace thmeselves for. The national assets with be sold to the highest bidder without regard to the opinions of
the citizenry. Afu mkipiga kelele mtaambiwa 'mta-do'.

What was that play that was banned during the drama festivals called?....Serikali ya wasanii hii!

If i got it right, then you said it all. That Nigeria is an oil station.

Then surprisingly,at the same time, say that we got nothing to learn from
them??

We in Kenya got so much to learn from them.

This is the first time we are talking about oil when in Nigeria,it
has been the pillar of their economy.

I support the Jubilee government, that they want to trade more with
Africans who are our brothers, near us and got so much in common.

Kenya is serious this time, we do not want to keep singing a song
sung since the days of Nkrumah, that Africa must look at itself first
before crossing the oceans where we get raped.

Can we afford to continue with what we have been doing all along???

That is just let foreign companies from America and Europe come
into this continent and get what they want without anybody
raising any question but when Nigeria is mentioned, ha ha ha:smile-big:
then you hear what people say of their own African brothers.

Do you prefer a Mzungu thief than an African one??????

British are heavily exploring oil in Kenya, Americans are doing
the same, Chinese and many others.

What is wrong by giving Nigerians a chance to do what foreigners
from across the oceans are doing.

Shame on those Africans who until now, feel and think that Mzungu
is everything in this world,,that it has to be them and not us,,,,,,,,,
that we African can not do like them.

If the British can do it, why not Nigerians or South Africans.

Do you live in those times when one was to fly to Rwanda, had
first to go all the way to France and then there.

That, everything in Africa has to first, be 'stamped' by a Mzungu
even if he or she is a teenager????

Respect yourself and you will automatically be respected by others.

It is time for Africans to emancipate themselves from this mental
slavery, decolonize your minds, brothers, Africa needs you and
not the foreigners.

Nigeria is the biggest economy in Africa,,,it has already been proclaimed.

The richest man in Africa comes from there.

This man is putting up a cement factory in Kenya, 50 billion
ksh which is half a billion US dollars.

If that is bad news to very few, who cares because many
will appreciate it.

This is a legitimate elected government with powers from its citizens
that gives it the mandate of looking for the best ways that it, Kenya,
can be able to utilize its resources in the best ways possible.

So the government does not need to ask anybody for any permission,
any day or any time when it wants to do any business with anybody.

To say that the government needs to consult locals when it want
to do anything, then it will stop to be a government because nowhere
in the world does that happen.

It is the custodian of all national assets as is the norm everywhere
in the world.

Oil will not belong to Turkana but the people of Kenya.

Coal will not belong to Kambas but the people of Kenya.

But the locals will have their share as in the constitution but
will not have that much say over anything.

So stop and enjoy the movie na muache kupapatika bure.

This is not a writers opinion but news all over the media and it is more of a deal between the Kenyatta Family and the Dangote Family...the rest are spectators.

Was there competitive bidding for these wells by the way?
