Health Service Commission Permanent Secretary and Secretary Ketty Lamaro said recruitment and promotion exercises for national and regional referral hospitals will be conducted centrally.
Applicants will use designated electronic application hubs and the Commission’s digital platforms to submit and validate their applications.
Regional Referral Application Hubs in Arua, Gulu, Mbale and Mbarara will facilitate the application and validation processes, after which applicants will undergo structured validation, aptitude tests and interviews supervised by the Health Service Commission.
Miriam Nayiga Mugisha, the Acting Commissioner for Recruitment and Selection at the Commission, said no health institution in Uganda currently has staffing levels above 50 percent.
She said the staffing shortage is one of the issues being addressed during a two-day planning meeting for health institutions for the 2026/27 financial year.
The meeting brings together heads of health institutions from across the country to discuss staffing needs and other planning priorities ahead of the new financial year.
The planned recruitment and promotion exercise is expected to help fill critical vacancies and strengthen staffing levels in public health facilities.
