The Dorze people of southern Ethiopia [emoji1098] are renowned for their weaving skills and for their large homes.The Dorze House is built with woven bamboo, banana tree finer textiles, polyester textiles and stone blocks. The lightweight hous-ing components can be prefabricated and easily mounted on site or the entire structure can be built locally if materials are available.The floors are made from bamboo canes and woven carpets that are easy to clean. ⠀

The roof and the mesh canopy deflect heat and keep the in- terior cool during the day. Mat-lined gables with small holes keep mosquitos out while providing natural ventilation and allowing inhabitants to cook inside. Double layer walls lined with textiles provide good insulation.
