Ibrahimovic makes revelation about fitness levels in fascinating interview about Milan return

AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has given a typically quoteworthy interview to UEFA about a range of topics, including his return to the club.

Perhaps it goes without saying now that Zlatan Ibrahimovic is a vital component of this current AC Milan resurgence, something which truly kicked on when he arrived.

The Swede is the joint-top scorer in Serie A with 10 goals from six league games, showing that even at the age of 39 he knows how to win and how to inspire his team-mates with dazzling performances.

Ibrahimovic’s impact on the team has not just come through performances, but through his leadership too. This has been perfectly demonstrated by the fact the Rossoneri have not lost a game in his absence, with Zlatan having missed the last five games with a muscle problem.

The Swede gave an exclusive interview to UEFA and talked about his return to Italy, about his physique and also some more humorous topics.

On what keeps him motivated: “I’m 39 and with what I have done, I have no obligation to work anymore, but I still have this passion for what I’m doing. I’m never satisfied, and I always want more.

“I don’t see a lot of players who are my age who were, or are, performing like I am doing. The moment a player goes above 30 is [meant to be] when they start to go down and they quit. Above 30 is when I started to become even better.”

“I hear athletes from [the] US say that they spent more than one million [dollars] to keep their body in shape. I am 39. I am in shape. I perform at the highest level. I spend zero to stay in shape. The secret is not how much you spend, the secret is in your head – how much you want it, how much you’re willing to sacrifice. That is the secret. It’s the mentality and mentality doesn’t cost anything.”

On the challenge of playing at 39: “I would like to have the brain of Zlatan in a 25-year-old body! I get tired faster now, compared to when I was younger. I’m sleeping a lot because I need to recover more.

“Let’s say after the games, before it probably took me one day to recover and to feel good and really fresh. Now I need between two and three days, which is normal for the age that I am.

“And as long as I can perform, I will play at a high level. The day I stop performing, I will not play anymore because I need to feel alive. I need to feel I give something back.

“I don’t want to have any advantages because I am 39 and they say ‘hey, you slow down’ and that. No, I want you to consider me on the world-class level and compare me to everybody else, because then I push myself even more.”

Who will play in his 50s: Zlatan or Buffon?

“Buffon… For him, it’s easy: he just needs to stand still and block balls. I need to move around, I need to create, I need to be able to shoot, I need to be able to battle with the defenders. So, he can probably go longer without really staying in shape, but I would give him a hard game.”

In your dream team, who would take the penalties: Zlatan or Lionel Messi?

“I would take the penalties, 100%, because I’m the captain of this team; I decide who takes the penalties. I would take the first three, then I would drop one to him, then I take the next three, then I drop [the next one] to him.”

Who has the best tattoos: you or David Beckham?

“All my tattoos are behind me. That is because I cannot see them and I cannot get tired of them, because if I saw them every day, I would get tired of them. And I think I’ve stopped with the tattoos now; I don’t have any more [space] on my back. And my legs, I don’t touch [them] because they are gifts for me. And my front, I don’t want to do anything.”

Who is aging better: Zlatan or Benjamin Button?

“’I’m doing it better, because I’m living proof of it. Benjamin Button is just a made-up story. I’m the perfect profile for that movie. I’m doing the real movie, and Benjamin Button was a movie for the cinema.”

Who would win an arm wrestle between Zlatan and King Kong?

“I would destroy King Kong. 100%. I would destroy him.”

Who is less likely to be tamed: Zlatan or a lion?

“Zlatan, 100%. You can tame a lion, but you cannot tame Zlatan. It’s a different animal.”

Journalist claims Milan have ‘intensified’ contacts with Napoli striker – next week decisive

By Isak Möller - 19 December 2020, 22:47

As a result of Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s injury, which will keep him out for at least a month, Milan have decided to sign a striker in the January transfer window. Contrary to previous reports, they could bring in a temporary solution.

According to the reliable journalist Carlo Alvino, who follows Napoli closely, Milan are interested in the Partenopei’s striker Fernando Llorente. The Spaniard hasn’t played a single game this season and will be looking to move on in January.

Settimana prossima decisiva.

— Carlo Alvino (@Carloalvino) December 19, 2020

The Rossoneri, as per the journalist, have intensified contacts with the striker in the last few hours. Llorente had already given his word to Sampdoria, but could surprisingly end up at San Siro due to Ibrahimovic’s injury.

The offer that Milan have put on the table seems to be more convincing and next week will be decisive for the negotiations, per the journalist. It remains to be seen who Stefano Pioli will end up in the end, though it’s clear he needs a striker.

Mediaset: Elliott give green light to signing of striker as Milan eye loan swap

By Isak Möller - 19 December 2020, 13:46

As a result of Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s injury, Milan will be looking to bring in a striker in January, should a good opportunity arise. Seeing as Ante Rebic and Rafael Leao haven’t performed, it sure is necessary.

According to SportMediaset, as cited by MilanNews, Elliott Management have given the go-ahead to the signing of a striker. The likes of Mario Mandzukic, Olivier Giroud and Arkadiusz Milik should be excluded from the list of names.

Instead, the interest in Gianluca Scamacca is something to follow with great interest. The Sassuolo-owned striker is currently on loan at Genoa and an idea could be to swap Scamacca with Lorenzo Colombo, sending him on loan to Genoa.

Milan will face Sassuolo tomorrow and on the sidelines of the game, they could discuss the situation and a potential deal. For now, though, Stefano Pioli will have to rely on Ante Rebic and Rafael Leao.

The Rossoneri are currently at the top of the standings with one point to spare ahead of city rivals Inter. They still have a five-point margin down to fifth place, but it will be necessary to get back to winning ways to keep their lead.

AC Milan considering former Italy striker as Ibra’s back-up

The recent injury of Zlatan Ibrahimovic has forced AC Milan to search for a new striker and the Rossoneri are considering a familiar face from the past.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s 2020 unexpectedly ended in November against Napoli.

The Swedish striker guided AC Milan with a fantastic brace that would unfortunately mark his last match with the Rossoneri. Another injury risks leaving him out for four more weeks

unexpected problem for the Rossoneri management. Now Maldini and Massara are looking on the market for a back-up striker. The most important condition for Milan is that the new striker must be familiar with Serie A and able to contribute immediately.

A number of names have been linked with Milan. Giroud, Arek Milik, Sam Lammers, Gianluca Scamacca and Pavoletti are mentioned like possible targets while according to calciomercato.com, Graziano Pelle could return to Italy and join AC Milan.

Graziano Pelle has played for five years in China after his big money move to Shandong Luneng.

In 2016 the Italian striker became one of the highest paid players in the world earing around 15 million per year at Shandong Luneng.

In a few days Pelle will become a free agent and the 35-year-old centre forward would like to end his career in Italy.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reveals the tension is at the highest level and that the Orobici managers have agreed to meet with agent Beppe Riso at the end of the year.

Reports in Italy suggested Gomez had asked to leave on a free transfer this winter, after a falling out with coach Gian Piero Gasperini.

A meeting could be decisive for the players future, but it seems unlikely that the captain, who fuelled the speculation by humming the Juventus hymn at the Allianz Stadium this month, will be able to restore the peace with Gasperini.

But the sale of Gomez is complicated, and the attacker has attracted interest from direct rivals, according to the newspaper.

Atalanta will therefore ask for compensation of at least €10m if the player moves this winter.

Gomez has a contract until June 2023 worth €2.5m a season and turns 33 in February. Gomez has played 10 Serie A games this term, contributing four goals and two assists in the process.

The former Catania forward moved to Atalanta from Metalist in September 2014 and has since established himself as one of the most important players in Bergamo.

Former ref: 'Why Leao's goal wasn't disallowed...'
Football Italia46 Minutes Ago

Comments
Former referee Luca Marelli explained why Milan forward Rafael Leao’s record-breaking goal wasn't disallowed. ‘VAR can't intervene at kick-off’.

Milan scored the opener in the 2-1 win over Sassuolo after 6.76 seconds against, the fastest goal in the history of Serie A and Europe’s leading leagues.

Marelli insists the goal should have been disallowed and explained why VAR didn’t intervene.

“Let’s nip a possible controversy in the bud,” he said. “On Milan’s first goal, Leao has a foot in the other half of the pitch.

“In theory, the goal should have been disallowed, but VAR doesn’t have jurisdiction over kick-off.”

Sfatiamo sul nascere una possibile polemica.
