S.Inzaghi: ‘Milan win unfair'
Football Italia55 Minutes Ago

Comments
Simone Inzaghi says Milan’s win against Lazio is not fair as the Biancocelesti 'dominated the game' for long time.

Lazio recovered from two goals down but somehow lost 3-2 against Milan through a late Theo Hernandez’s goal.

“The result is not fair, I am angry. We came here with some problems, we had a few players out of action. We deserved more. It must serve as a lesson for the future,” Inzaghi toldDAZN.

“We are sorry for the result. We controlled the game,” he added.

“After the draw, we should have paid more attention. There must be a reason why Milan haven’t lost a game for long time. The guys must take the positive aspects of this game, not the result, but we dominated.

“We should have done more to avoid Theo’s goal. Luis Alberto left him too much space. I am sorry for the guys, they didn’t deserve to lose.”

Lazio have already conceded 23 goals in the opening 14 games of the season.

“We must pay more attention, we conceded goals on three set pieces. It’s not only a problem of defenders, we did well against Napoli on Sunday. Today’s approach was wrong, we can’t afford that against a top club like Milan.

“We are missing some points right now, but we’ll make up for it. I repeat today’s performance was good.”

Inzaghi replaced Ciro Immobile and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic after 74 minutes.

“It’s not easy to play with such a busy fixture list, Immobile and Milikovic-Savic were tired, I had to replace them.”

Milan most prolific since Barca in 1948
Football Italia17 Minutes Ago

Comments
Milan are the first club since Barcelona in 1948 to score at least two goals in 16 consecutive league games during a single calendar year.

The Rossoneri beat Lazio 3-2 at San Siro with a stoppage-time Theo Hernandez glancing header this evening to see out Christmas on top of the table.

However, history had already been made with Hakan Calhanoglu’s penalty for 2-0.

That means Milan have scored at least two goals in each of their last 16 Serie A matches.

The only club to achieve that run in Europe’s top five leagues during a single calendar year was Barcelona with 18 Liga games in 1948.

They are also the only side still unbeaten in Europe's top five leagues for the 2020-21 season, as Juvenus fell 3-0 to Fiorentina last night.

📊 @OptaPaolo: AC Milan have gained 34 points in 14 Serie A games so far, exactly twice the points earned by the Rossoneri at this stage of the competition last term (17 in 14 matches). https://t.co/fCRruuL96K

AC Milan managed to defeat Lazio in a thrilling game, thanks to goals from Ante Rebic, Hakan Calhanoglu and Theo Hernandez. It was the perfect ending to 2020, and down below are the player ratings.

Starting XI

Donnarumma (6.5): The goalkeeper had a difficult game as he was challenged more than usual, but he handled the pressure with maturity and composure.

Calabria (6.5): Not necessarily his best attacking performance but defensively, the right-back had a solid game and was an obstacle every time the opposition tried to create chances from his side.

Kalulu (7): Another impressive performance from the youngster who did not shy away from any challenge and played without fear.

Romagnoli (7): The captain was solid in defence and did a remarkable job organizing the defence and helping his team handle the pressure.

Hernandez (7.5): A standard performance from the Theo who looked outstanding in both ends of the pitch as he often does. But most importantly, the left-back inspired a late awakening of his team which resulted in a bullet header from the Frenchman to win the game for Pioli’s men.

Tonali (6): Unfortunately, this was not the dominant performance his team needed to dominate the midfield. Instead, this was yet another underwhelming performance from Sandro that left a lot to be desired.

Krunic (5.5): A nervous performance from Krunic that did more harm than good. The midfielder failed to leave a mark on this game and made many avoidable mistakes.

Saelemaekers (5.5): The Belgian had a couple of interesting ideas throughout the game but was mostly let down by his final touch. A performance to forget.

Calhanoglu (7.5 – MOTM): Easily the most creative player on the pitch. With two assists in the game, the Turk was a key player, he showed a lot of desire, did well fighting for the ball and his distribution was mostly on point. His well-taken penalty was just the icing on the cake.

Rebic (6.5): Returning to his rightful position benefitted Rebic greatly. The winger was rewarded with his first goal of the season. However, his second half was not as good as the first, missing a couple of crucial chances, but this is definitely a performance to build on.

Leao (6): He was dynamic in the first half, Leao seemed lost in the second as he failed to create much danger in the opposition half and did not make the necessary runs. His inconsistency during games continues to be a big problem.

Substitutes

Castillejo (6): While quite helpful defensively, the winger was not exactly the breath of fresh air Milan hoped he would be as he failed to leave a mark on this game.

Hauge (6): Did not do enough to revive the team offensively but his simple passes were helpful in the build-up.

Maldini (N/A): Didn’t play enough to get a rating.

Dalot (N/A): Didn’t play enough to get a rating.

Alessio Romagnoli admits this is a very different Christmas for Milan compared a year ago, as they are top of the table after a 3-2 win over Lazio.
The Rossoneri maintained their unbeaten run in Serie A this season and the leadership going into the Christmas break, as after Lazio fought back for 2-2, Theo Hernandez snatched the winner in stoppages.
“We had suffered more in previous Christmases, so we intend to enjoy this one, as a great deal has changed in a year,” smiled Romagnoli on Sky Sport Italia.

“The signings in January gave us a big hand, as we slowly gained more and more confidence game after game.
“The coach also did very well from the start to trust the group. We had been a bit separated in the locker room, let’s say, but he managed to bring us all together and the results came as a consequence.
“We have to play every game to the maximum. We are a young team with a lot of good ideas, the important thing is to keep going like this.”
Milan are forced to play behind closed doors, but their ultras accompanied them to San Siro from the training ground ahead of the Lazio game with mopeds and cars, setting off flares and waving flags.
“The fans are our strength, even if they can’t enter the stadium,” added the captain.
“We give them a massive thanks and hope to have them in the stands as soon as possible.”
Romagnoli was asked if he will extend his current Milan contract.

“I hope to play another 200 games with Milan. You’d have to ask the directors about the contract, but the current one runs to June 2022, so there’s no rush.”

Diego Lopez: “When he entered [in the lineup] it already made my job a little more difficult, due to his quality, and in the end the Espanyol opportunity arose. But I spent two very good years at Milan. I learned a lot.”

Magic Moment for Hakan #Calhanoglu: he and his wife are expecting a baby boy and he is in advanced talks with #ACMilan to extend his contract until 2024 (€3,5M/year + add-ons). #transfers
