Cassano: ‘Ridiculous Inter in UCL’
Football Italia14 Hours Ago

Comments
Antonio Cassano seems unimpressed by Inter: ‘They don’t play great football and were ridiculous in Champions League.’

The Nerazzurri beat Genoa 3-0 on Sunday and enjoy a four-point lead over Milan on top of the Serie A table.

They have been knocked out of the Champions League and Coppa Italia.

“If we had been in the Champions League right now, I think we could’ve had our say in that tournament,” Conte said after Sunday’s victory, but Cassano thinks otherwise.

“Did Conte understand he is not Guardiola? Have his say in the Champions League? Come on. I am not dumb. Serie A is mediocre, Europe is something else. Inter are not dominating,” he told Bobo TV on Twitch.

“They’ve been playing differently with Eriksen, they seem more solid, but they don’t play great football. Atalanta do.

“Inter sit deep and wait for their opponents’ move, then they try to reach Lukaku with long balls.

“Inter must win the title. They are going to win it. But they don’t play well.

“If Conte made serious mistakes, it’s only his fault. Inter were ridiculous in Champions League. They finished behind Shakhtar.”

Pioli: "Mandzukic and Bennacer are proceeding with individual training for this whole week. I hope they can return to be available next week."

Pioli elaborates on Romagnoli's benching reaction; discusses injured players and what changed vs. Roma #SempreMilan

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli refused to shed much light on whether Alessio Romagnoli will remained benched, but challenged his team to confirm their good work from the weekend.

The Rossoneri will host Udinese at San Siro on Wednesday night looking to follow up an excellent result against Roma in the right way. Milan ran out 2-1 winners at the Stadio Olimpico against fellow top four hopefuls thanks to goals from Franck Kessie and Ante Rebic, extending the gap over the Giallorossi to eight points.

In doing so, they ensured that they remain four points off Inter, and they will want to keep the pressure firmly on their Serie A rivals against a Udinese side who have been inconsistent this season but find themselves sitting much more comfortably than last season’s relegation battle.

Pioli spoke to the media at Milanello on the eve of the game, with his comments transcribed by MilanNews and translated below.

Does your team struggle less away than at home?

“The numbers speak for themselves, but it must be said that without the fans playing at home or away is not so decisive. Playing in your stadium is different, however, it should still give us some advantages. in difficulty, an important performance will be needed.”

Pioli made a strong choice for the game against Roma as Tomori was preferred to captain Alessio Romagnoli, but the Englishman repaid the faith of his head coach with a fantastic defensive performance.

Will Romagnoli stay out of the line-up tomorrow?

“The matches are all important, but also different. For me it is fortunate to have a great choice. Only tomorrow morning we will try the starting line-up. I will choose who is better off. We have a good victory, now we have to give continuity to our results.”

How is Leao? Is he falling?

“Let’s not forget that until a few weeks ago there was talk of a more determined Leao and inside the games. Tomorrow he can start from the beginning. He should not be pampered too much because he is well. He must help the team with his qualities.”

Will there be a leader missing without Ibra?

“Our leader must be how we go out on the pitch, we proved it on Sunday. Even without Ibra and Calhanoglu there are many players who can be decisive with a play.”

Should Milan still believe in the Scudetto?

“I would have been surprised if Ibra had said different things in the conference. It is right for him to say certain things. We have play the game and think about ourselves, we have to win as many games as possible and play our football. We are satisfied with the match in Rome and the decisive moment of the season, let’s stay focused and try to get the most out of it. Then we’ll see in what position we will be.”

How do you explain the difference in performance between Red Star and Roma?

“The two difficult weeks helped us to fix some things. The team was good at not being depressed and at returning to play at Milan. We did well in Rome, we have to continue like this.”

Can Milan do without Ibra? Will you watch him at Sanremo tonight?

“Ibra is one more weapon, but the fact that the team did well even without him means that we have some qualities. Tonight I will watch Juventus-Spezia. I heard Ibra. Unfortunately Sanremo ends too late for me.”

How is Romagnoli doing?

“Only you talk about failures, for me they are simple choices. I talked to him. You can not always have the same ideas, but the important thing is respect.”

Could Rebic recover for tomorrow?

“He’s fine, tomorrow morning he can finish training and start against Udinese. On Sunday he played a great match, his characteristics are important for us. There is no doubt about his qualities.”

What changes from playing with Ibra vs. Leao as the centre-forward?

“I like it so much when Zlatan makes us play well. Ante is good at going deep. Leao is not a target man, but more of a movement centre-forward. His team-mates will have to be good at exploiting his movements.”

How are Mandzukic and Bennacer?

“They are continuing their individual work which will go on throughout this week. We hope they can be back available during the next week.”

Many had already written Milan off…

“We have a chance to prove that the extraordinary thing was those two weeks. It was a surprise, but there can be a dip when you play so much. Now we have to prove that we are still that extraordinary team. Let’s not think about the past anymore, it will be. What we will be able to do from now on is decisive.”

In Rome we saw a more brilliant and intense team

“The worst thing is to do things halfway. We like to attack forward, but that’s okay only if the pressing is done well. In Rome we did it. It must be a constant in our way of playing. We must obviously learn to read situations.”

Alessio Romagnoli expects an increase in earnings from 3.5 million euros net for the season to 6 million euros net for the season. The 26-year-old's contract will expire next year. Milan may consider selling the player this summer.

Lazio vs Torino will be the remake of Juventus vs Napoli. Torino have not been given the permission by the authorities to travel to Rome because the team is currently in quarantine until this evening at midnight while Lazio will be on the pitch as scheduled for tonight's game at the Stadio Olimpico.

Serie A did not order a postponement, therefore Torino would be assigned an automatic 0-3 defeat which then could be appealed for a possible postponement to 7 April.

Gazzetta: AC Milan open Tomori talks and could sell Romagnoli
Posted on March 2, 2021 by Rossonero

AC Milan are having serious doubts whether to renew Romagnoli’s contract or sell him in the summer and sign Fikayo Tomori permanently.
In the summer and January, AC Milan were very close to purchasing Mohamed Simakan from Strasbourg. Despite their long courtship, the Rossoneri changed target at the end and signed Fikayo Tomori on loan from Chelsea with an option to buy set at 28 million euros.

The English centre back has settled in immediately and will be challenging captain Romagnoli for a starting spot until the end of the season. Against Roma, coach Pioli Stefano preferred Tomori over Romagnoli. A tough choice that paid off.

Against Roma, Fikayo Tomori was simply impeccable with the Rossoneri fans naming him as Man of the Match. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the excellent performance of the young English defender at the Olimpico has strengthened the conviction of Milan to keep him for longer. The Rossoneri want to sign the 23-year-old from Chelsea on a permanent deal.

Tomori has carved out an important role in the AC Milan squad, overturning the old hierarchy. The exclusion with Roma certainly did not make the captain happy but he is still in high regard by Maldini. The problem, however, is related to his renewal. Alessio has a contract expiring in 2022 and is aiming for a richer agreement for the future. The management was shocked when Raiola asked for 6 million euros per year and talks have been difficult so far. Meanwhile, AC Milan are now seriously considering whether to offer him a new contract or sell Romagnoli in the summer.

Romagnoli’s confirmation is not that obvious and AC Milan don’t want to be blackmailed by Raiola again after what is happening with Gianluigi Donnarumma. In the meantime AC Milan have resumed talks with Chelsea in an attempt to lower their asking price of 28 million euros.

I remember i commented about this romagnoli/pioli matter the other day. I made mention of external forces pressuring pioli into restoring romagnoli back to the line up. For italian national team sake and uefa euro tournament in view. I didnt even know it will be this quick. Also because Tomori is a foreigner and it will seem like developing an English player for their national team, while our own home grown defender will be disgruntled and rot on the bench.

Maldini also commented about Romagnoli not being happy. You can see all these things playing out.... indigenous sentiments and bias. Tomori played well the last match and so deserves continuity. How in the hell will u bench him in the next game simply because romagnoli is not happy?🤷🏿‍♂️ so what was all the hardwork of tomori for? Just to be used like a lab rat or a sentimental bait?

I praised pioli for taking the guts to bench an underperforming captian and defender. But i take all that praise back. Its bullshit.

Roberto De Zerbi, Head Coach of Sassuolo looks on prior to the Serie A match between Juventus and US Sassuolo at Allianz Stadium on January 10, 2021 in Turin, Italy. Sporting stadiums around Italy remain under strict restrictions due to the Coronavirus Pandemic as Government social distancing laws prohibit fans inside venues resulting in games being played behind closed doors.

The coach De Zerbi in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport spoke of the fight for the title:

“Inter is a structured team. They have the advantage of not playing the cups so they can concentrate only on the Championship. Both Conte’s team, both Pioi’s team played very well against us. Milan are extraordinary. But injuries will have a weight. Juventus without Dybala, Cuadrado and Morata have become less strong
