The joy of the team and the coach at the final whistle in Bergamo: "It was wonderful, it was an emotion. It's a season that lasted almost two years, the coach has played two consecutive seasons since he arrived. vacation, there was the covid that turned our lives upside down. We had this dream, we came in second place for our unity of purpose. It was right to celebrate together, these images are very significant ".
How did you experience it compared to when you celebrated as a player? "There are different times, goals and clubs. As a player I was lucky in my third year as a pro to have president Berlusocni who did something exceptional in the world of football. Retracing that team will not be easy for any club, then we were celebrating Champions like this. There must be a beginning for everything, this is the beginning of an adventure that will continue and will lead us to compete at the highest level. We are very happy but Milan must be ambitious, we must lay the foundations and then improve every year and have bigger and bigger ambitions. The difference between player and manager is huge, as a player you have tension but then you play and you are so tired that you don't even hear many things. As a manager you keep everything inside and it becomes difficult ".
What were the key moments of the season? "The real key moment was when the coach and I were confirmed and it was decided to go on with the group that was doing so well in the post lockdown championship. That I think was the key moment, we only had 3 weeks of vacation. where we tried to improve the team, then the Rio Ave qualification was the most difficult moment with so many players out between covid and injuries and the true spirit came out. It was a sign that it would be a positive season. "
What emotions does it give to entering the Champions League? "Going to the Champions League obviously has an economic implication, we are very tied to the sporting part. Go and compete with the best teams in the world and try to be at their level, there is an even higher challenge than in the championship, there are surprises both positive than negative, but when it comes to AC Milan they are almost always positive. It is raising the level of the club not only economically but also of the players themselves; Ibra in the locker room asked who had played the Champions League, only Hakan Calhanoglu raised his hand . This shows how difficult it is to be protagonists in such a competition ".
On the flags in modern football: "It was difficult then, now it is even more difficult. Being able to find a player who has ambition qualities, finding an environment that allows him to fulfill his ambitious requests is difficult. The foreign market and kids, when they sign their first contract, it is so large that they are actually beautiful stories but increasingly difficult ".
What group did you have this year like? "It is difficult to say. I have always been part of groups with expert players. This is the youngest in Italy, the similarities will be few but we hope they will be similar in the results".
On Donnarumma: "I think we have to thank all the players who have made this incredible season. Gigio was a leader and often a captain. People have a hard time understanding what it means to be a professional, who must be ready to change shirts. I know that this is something that is difficult to accept, it is increasingly difficult to find careers that start in one place and end in that place there. We must have respect for those who gave so much to Milan, Gigio did it, he never missed us of respect. The paths diverge, I can only wish the best to a sensitive boy like him ".
On the fans: "Milan was the first team that had demonstrations from their fans during the pandemic, they surprised and surprised us. Before Bergamo we knew that the fans would arrive, we saw the intensity and the desire to achieve certain results. and they made us go back to what are the matches with the fans, they are the essence of football. The boys have tried to be professionals to the maximum but without the fans at the stadium many things are missing. The idea of restarting by participating in the competition more important, having as a base a second place deservedly achieved, with at least 50% of our fans certainly makes us happy ".
How do you discover a talent? "We have a very capable scout department with Geoffrey Moncada at the head. Scouts and statistics match the needs of the club and the tastes of whoever is in charge of the sports area, that is me, and the Sports Director, Massara. there are many exchanges of ideas based on how the team plays and what the coach wants, what that department needs at that moment. There is a lot of work behind it, being infallible is impossible, you have to be creative and bet on young people who I must say when they put themselves to the test they give many positive answers ".
A thought on the Primavera derby and the Italian Cup final. "I will go to see the Primavera, we want to qualify for the playoffs and go as far as possible. They have suffered a lot from being stuck for months and months, they have lost the habit of relating to others. The girls are fantastic this year. they dragged us with their ambition. There will be the first trophy to win, we will go to Mapei to see the final hoping to bring home the first female trophy ".
A greeting: "Thanks and always go Milan".
