Milan legend Franco Baresi believes the Rossoneri will rise again if they learn from Nils Liedholm. ā€œFourth place is possible, you just need patience.ā€

Monday will be the 40th anniversary of Milan winning their 10th Serie A title, the so-called Scudetto della Stella because it allows clubs to place a permanent star on their jerseys.

ā€œI only realised over the course of time how important that victory was, but at the time I was thinking of my parents, who were no longer with us and would’ve liked to see me,ā€ Baresi told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

ā€œWe were a good team, but nobody believed we could win the Scudetto, because Juventus and Inter were the favourites. Yet Liedholm, with his balance and good humour, taught everyone a lesson. That title was his masterpiece.

ā€œI remember that just before a Milan Derby, he didn’t even tell us players that Gianni Rivera was injured, so he surprised everyone with a formation that had two strikers and we won 1-0 with Maldera’s goal.ā€

The current Rossoneri scenario is up in the air and Coach Gennaro Gattuso is reported to be hanging by a thread.

ā€œIf Liedholm were here, I think he’d say we needed to be patient, because he was a very calm person, even if he did get angry every now and then,ā€ continued Baresi.

ā€œAll of Italian football misses a character like him, as he had charisma, elegance and vision beyond what anyone else could see. If I could bring a player of that era to the current Milan squad, it’d be Rivera, a real champion on the field and off.

ā€œThere’s time to think about the future, because we should take it one step at a time and focus on beating Bologna. If we win every remaining match, I believe fourth place is still possible.

ā€œMilan are fortunate enough to have great fans who never abandoned us. I am convinced that with these new owners, the fans will get back to seeing a great Milan.

ā€œI can say that, because I spent two years in Serie B with Milan, but then I won everything there was to win. There is always light at the end of the tunnel. You just need patience, as Liedholm would say.ā€

Abate is set to leave Milan at the end of the season as a free agent as Milan have not shown much desire to extend the relationship.

AC Milan are in dire need of reinforcements over the summer. The Rossoneri will be looking to make more signings in the vein of Krzysztof Piatek and Lucas Paqueta to help them build foundations for the future; with the eventual aim of challenging Juventus for the Scudetto.

However, as much as the club need to buy players, they must also sell to balance the books and avoid punishment, yet again, from UEFA and their financial fair play regulations.

According to what has been reported by Tuttosport, a trio of Milan midfielders are to pack their suitcases and leave the club in the summer; to be replaced by a new look midfield. The Italian newspaper suggest that Tiemoue Bakayoko, Franck Kessie and Lucas Biglia are all deemed to be surplus to requirements and in dire need of being replaced by much better alternatives.

La Gazzetta dello sport confirms Leicester City’s interest in Hakan Calhanoglu. English scouts will be at San Siro today to watch the AC Milan winger.

AC Milan will undergo several changes this summer, especially in the squad. Among the many players who could say goodbye, there is also Hakan Calhanoglu. The Rossoneri signed the 25-year-old winger in 2017 for 21 million euros from German club Bayer Leverkusen.

The Turkish winger has been linked with a move back to Germany but a future in the Premier League can’t be excluded. Leicester City are interested in his services and are expected to make a move when the season ends.

The performances of Calhanoglu have been mostly underwhelming this year. In the first months he was strongly conditioned by personal problems with his wife, with whom he later resolved everything and also became a father. However, improvement didn’t follow him on the pitch. Hakan Calhanoglu has scored only two goals in Serie A this season but things were much better in Europa League where he contributed with one goal and six assists in just five appearances.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport journalist, Nicolo Schira, Leicester City scouts will be at San Siro today to watch Calhanoglu in Milan-Frosinone. This will be the Rossoneri’s last match at San Siro and only a win could keep their hopes alive for a place in Champions League. Later the eyes of the Red and Black fans will be focused on Juventus vs Atalanta.
Leicester City are reportedly preparing an important bid of €30 million for Calhanoglu. Despite a fluctuating form throughout the season the English club values Calhanoglu’s characteristics and are determined to bring in in Premier League..

Today's edition of @tuttosport has no doubts, Stefano Sensi, the 23-year-old Sassuolo midfielder, is Milan's first purchase for next season.
The player finished his season early due to the fracture of the scaphoid and so there was a decisive acceleration to close the deal.
A deal that had been set up already in January.

Sensi would have already received advice from his former teammate at Sassuolo, Matteo Politano, now at Inter, about where to buy a home in Milan (Garibaldi area).

Sensi arrival confirms what was known for some time and that is that TiemouƩ Bakayoko, despite the excellent second part of the season, will not be redeemed from Chelsea.

Bakayoko unprofessional behaviour behind the decision to let him go.
Club now focusing on young players

AC Milan have completed the signing of Sassuolo star Stefano Sensi. The Rossoneri will pay 25 million euros for Italian central midfielder.
Italian newspaper Tuttosport reveals the latest news regarding AC Milan’s transfer market plans. Despite participation or not in Champions League for next season, this summer is going to be a very busy one for Milan. The management is planning a real revolution with many players expected to leave and be replaced with better footballers. Sassuolo star Stefano Sensi will be AC Milan’s first summer signing.

Tuttosport confirms that AC Milan have completed the purchase of Sensi, 23-year-old central midfielder of Sassuolo. The talented youngster is currently out with a fractured hand so Milan and Sassuolo took advantage of the situation and accelerated a negotiation that has started since January. Sensi has already contacted his former Sassuolo teammate, Matteo Politano, now at Inter, who is advising him where to buy home in Milan (Garibaldi area).

Sensi’s arrival confirms the departure of Tiemoue Bakayoko. Despite an excellent second part of the season, AC Milan will not sign the French midfielder who should return to Chelsea. The decision of the Rossoneri club is strictly related to some unprofessional behavior by Bakayoko. The incident with Acerbi’s jersey, then the delay in training and finally the fight with coach Gattuso. A series of episodes that has convinced Milan to trust on Sensi instead.

Tuttosport also reveals the official figures of this transfer. Sassuolo will profit 25 million euros from the sale of Stefano Sensi AC Milan. However, the Rossoneri will pay only half of that fee in cash because the rest, 12 million euros to be exact, will be deducted from the transfer of Manuel Locatelli. The former Milan midfielder was signed by Sassuolo on loan with the obligation to buy at the end of the season.

Sensi will sign a five-year contract with a salary of 1,8 million euros per season. The 23-year-old is a member of the Italian national team and one of the brightest players of his generation. Former Milan star K.P. Boateng has backed Stefano Sensi to shine at the highest levels.

Today's edition of @Gazzetta_it gives an insight on Luis Campos Lille’s DS who should take Leonardo's place.
His scout team consists of six experts (a Portuguese, a Mexican, a Spaniard, a Brazilian and two French) who share five exploration zones.
To his collaborators, the Portuguese imposes a synthesis of up to 10 lines for the annual archive of about 3,000 players, who are then catalogued into 3-5 names per role.
All with ratings from 1 to 5 & specific definitions:
A1 are the safe talents
A2 those with team spirit
B1 those with strong potential, and so on up to the D, that is those who ended up on the margins.
All are then ordered in 3 price ranges: up to 3 million; between 3 and 6 million; over 6.
When a young player receives 3 positive reports, Campos evaluates him personally.

šŸ“° According to Gazzetta dello Sport :

*Leonardo is ready to give his resignation and will do it as soon as the championship is over: from next Monday.*

Napoli and Portugal left-back Mario Rui has reportedly been offered to Milan. According to Skyitalia through Calcio Mercato.com, Mario Rui’s representatives approached Milan several weeks ago. The website adds another round of talks between the two parties will take place soon, although the Rossoneri do not view him as a priority target. It is expected that the deal will go through as the Rossoneri will be looking to bolster the left side of their defensive line and provide cover to Ricardo RodrĆguez, however, the negotiations are expected to be at a very early stage.

Paolo Maldini admits friendship will count for nothing when it comes to deciding Gennaro Gattuso’s fate as Milan Coach.

Maldini and Gattuso were Milan teammates during the 2000s, winning a Scudetto and two Champions Leagues together.

However, the legendary left-back is on the Rossoneri board that will run the rule over the Coach.

ā€œI have to do my job and evaluate Gattuso, we're not teammates anymore,ā€ he told DAZN.

ā€œYou must have respect for the people you are working with. We are both here to help make this cu;b work in the best way it possibly can. Our views can be different, but our friendship helps us to overcome our differences.

ā€œHowever, I will have to evaluate the job he has done in a cold and detached manner. We have different roles at the club, and we’re not teammates anymore.

ā€œDirector of sporting strategy and development at Milan is a job title that covers so many different areas.

ā€œLeonardo has taken his role of executive to another level. He is more than a sporting director now and he asked me to accompany him on this adventure.

ā€œThe definition of our roles isn’t important. What matters is that we oversee the sporting department and do a good job.

ā€œIt is, for me, a beautiful challenge being here again, it fills me with emotions and great memories, my sporting life has always been linked to this club, to the city, so in a way, it’s as if I’ve come full circle.

ā€œIt seemed a natural thing for me to do, even if it took so many years for me to return.

ā€œWe’re working towards the future. It might take a while, but we’re planning on building a new stadium, maybe one that we will share with Inter, maybe not.

ā€œIt will be top-level arena and it’s something we will need a long-term project for.ā€

The club icon was then asked about how he coped with pressure and what was the best way to manage it.

ā€œI had a little trick before the game with Juve in Manchester [the 2003 Champions League Final]. We returned to the Final after nine years and we had a lot of players that had never played in a Champions League Final.

ā€œI pretended to be the calmest person in the world, and everyone was asking me, ā€˜hey Paolo, how can you be so calm?’

ā€œI said, ā€˜oh it’s the ritual we have when playing in Finals.’ The truth was that I was burning inside, but I was able to manage that pressure.

ā€œThey were all so amazed I was able to sleep the night before the match; they didn’t realise that I had taken a sleeping pill! These are the type of little lies that give a team confidence.ā€

Finally, the 50-year-old talked about his sons, namely 17-year-old Daniel who has been making a name for himself with the Rossoneri’s Primavera team, scoring 10 goals from a left-wing position.

ā€œDaniel is the first attacker of the Maldini dynasty, he is the only one with those attributes to be a playmaker, someone who sets up the goals.

A lot of time can never surpass without the mention of AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma in the media. Originally tipped to be the next Gianluigi Buffon, Donnarumma broke into the Rossoneri first team at a young age but, since then, has attracted a lot of negative attention and criticism.

Despite this, Donnarumma is still one of the best goalkeepers in the league and has missed just two games for Milan since he made his debut for the club in October 2015 - playing 141 out of a possible 143.

Donnarumma, however, may be on his way out of the club, with reports suggesting that his future hinges on where Milan finish in the league table this season. Despite having a contract until 2024, Donnarumma could be pushed out of the club by his agent Mino Raiola, who seems insistent on the young Italian playing in the Champions League at this vital stage of his career.

If Milan fail to qualify for the Champions League, PSG and Manchester United will be on red alert as they seek to thrash out a deal for the keeper. It is suggested than an offer of between €60m and €70m could be enough to tempt Elliott Management into accepting it and seeing the promising young keeper exit the club.

AC Milan right winger Samuel Castillejo is in advanced contacts with Sevilla. The Spaniard could return to La Liga this summer.

The future of Samuel Castillejo may not be at AC Milan. The Spanish right winger arrived as an alternative to Jesus Suso in Gennaro Gattuso’s 4-3-3 lineup, however, the former Villarreal failed to find continuity in his first year at San Siro. The 24-year-old has scored 4 goals and assisted another 4 in 40 appearances this season but only 16 were from the first minute.

Castillejo’s performances have fluctuated, partly because Gattuso didn’t always use him in his ideal role. On several occasions the former Villarreal star has been deployed on the left rather than on the right. Paolo Maldini hoped Castillejo would be this year’s surprise of the season but Samu failed to live up to expectations.

After just one year in Italy, Castillejo could return to Spain where a number of clubs would be ready to welcome him back with open arms. Sevilla remains the most interested club in Castillejo. Sporting director Monchi is a big fan of the Spanish right winger. Calciomercato reveals that contacts with the agent of the AC Milan number 7 are in an advanced phase.

Samu feels comfortable in Milan and has not asked for a transfer but obviously he wants to understand if he will play an important part in the future projects of the Rossoneri club. Milan on the other hand are open to sell under the right conditions.

Last summer AC Milan invested €25 million for Samuel Castillejo, 18 million in cash plus Carlos Bacca. If Sevilla were to offer a similar figure then very likely the Spaniard will be back in his homeland. The 24-year-old is tempted by a return to La Liga where he will have the opportunity to be regular starter at Sevilla. His biggest dream remains to become a member of the Spanish national team and to do so he needs room to show his skills.

Pirlo to Sky Sport 24 : "I would confirm Gattuso, he did a great job and what he had to do. Should he take Milan to the Champions League, it would be the icing on the cake. Sarri at Milan? It would be a different choice, another type of coach with a different vision and way of playing ."

According to what has been reported in the Italian press, there is a background to a suggestion that AC Milan are competing with Napoli for Atalanta player Timothy Castagne. Leonardo, Milan's sporting director, has met with the player's representatives; although he was not able to give a definite yes and proceed with negotiations with Atalanta.
