Pioli to Sky; "It's a pity. We wanted to win. The spirit and generosity were at a good level. We had to close the game because things like what happened at the end can happen."

Pioli: "I subbed off Leao because at the end of the first half the doctor pointed out a muscular hardening. I also saw Paqueta performing less than in the first half and that's why he was taken off."

Pioli: "The requests I made to the team are different from the previous ones. The two situations that led to the final result are in the two boxes. We played as a team and created a lot, but we committed errors in the two areas that didn't allow us to close the game."

🗣 Pioli: “It’s a pity, there were positives, but we wanted the win and didn’t get it because of our mistakes. I saw some good moves, quality and spirit, but if you leave the game open, you can have a nasty surprise at the end.

“Milan players are well aware of their capabilities and the fact they are wearing a prestigious jersey. They will be able to judge their own performances and we’ll analyse them carefully, but in a way we paid for our generosity, as we ran after the ball and didn’t keep an eye on other players. I think we deserved to win it.

“After only a few days of training, I did see some of the ideas we had worked on and that bodes well for the future, even if there is a lot of work to be done.

"The big error was that a side like Milan has to kill games off. We could’ve even held on for 2-1 and kicked it out of play rather than misplace those passes.

“This match will help us learn a great deal, for what we did and what we should’ve done.

“I think Leao and Piatek can play together when overall we are a more balanced team and I have a better idea of their characteristics.

“I replaced Leao because the medical staff told me he had a slight muscular issue and we didn’t want to risk any further damage, while Paqueta also seemed tired.”

Journalist Fabio Caressa has challenged AC Milan midfielder to start showing the kind of form that saw him labelled a ‘phenom’ in Brazil.
The 23-year-old joined Milan for €35million from Brazilian side Flamengo back in January and is still adjudged by many to be finding his feet in Italian football.

Despite being with the Rossoneri for just 10 months, Paqueta has already worked under three different managers and has switched between the midfield and playing as a winger, something which won’t help his consistency.

Since his move, Paqueta has scored just one goal but Caressa – while talking to Sky Italia(via Calciomercato.com) after Sunday’s 2-2 draw against Lecce – backed Paqueta to find form again.

“I know Paquetà is still doing very little to justify his price tag,” he said.
“And yet, if you talk with the Brazilians or with people who have seen him play in Brazil, they will tell you that he is a phenomenon.
“We haven’t seen him producing that kind of performance here yet but I think with time, he will improve.”

Milan fans are so unhappy about the performances of 25-year-old Spaniard Suso that the hashtag #SusoOut is trending on Twitter, according to a report from Calciomercato.com.

The Spanish forward, contracted to the Rossoneri until 2022, has become the scapegoat for the Milanese supporters, who are unhappy with his lacklustre performances so far this season.

The player has featured in every league game for the Rossoneri so far this season, starting in each appearance, but has failed to score a goal and has only provided one assist all campaign, against Brescia in the Rossoneri’s second game of the season.

The Rossoneri fans are furious that his disappointing performances haven’t led to a drop in squad priority, first from former coach Marco Giampaolo and now coach Stefano Pioli.

Suso joined Milan on HB free transfer in 2015, after his contract expired with Liverpool, although the Rossoneri paid a €1.3 million compensatory fee to the Premier League side.

AC Milan have decided to give Suso one last chance to prove himself otherwise the Spanish winger will be sold in January.
We could be witnessing the last months of Suso at AC Milan. The Spaniard has been a central figure with each coach for the last years but the former Liverpool, for one reason or another, in the end has never confirmed the high expectations the club had for him. But time is up now. According to Tuttosport, with Stefano Pioli, Suso will have his last chance to shine at San Siro.

There is not much time left for him to prove that he deserves Milan. Ether he will do it very soon or he will be sold in January. Also because the budged in red requires an important sacrifice and Suso is among the few able to guarantee a great capital gain in case of his departure.

Considering the “only” 250 thousand euros spent to sign Suso in 2014, his sale would allow a full capital gain for the Elliott Management Fund. AC Milan received several offers for Suso in the summer but the club decided to confirm him mainly due to the strong will of Marco Giampaolo to rely on him.

Now everything will depend on Pioli. If Italian coach succeeds to revive the Spaniard the Rossoneri would be happy to give him an important role. But if the 25-year-old continues to struggle, then the club will do everything to sell him in the next winter transfer window.

First, the cash from his sale would help to improve the books and also to avoid getting too close to the expiration date of his contract in 2022. With renewal talks stalling for a long period, it would be pointless for the club to risk devaluing their player rather than sell him.

AC Milan want to sell Suso for €38 million (his release clause valid for foreign clubs) but considering his recent performances that may be a high figure to match for many clubs. However, Wolverhampton and West Ham are on alert as AC Milan lose patience with right winger

Fulvio Collovati, 1982 world champion and former Rossoneri defender, spoke to MilanNews about Hakan Calhanoglu, following a more than positive performance against Lecce: "Calhanoglu can play behind the strikers. Pioli cannot fossilize on the form, he knows that too. With a hypothetical form with Calhanoglu, Piatek and Leao on the field at the same time, Suso can stay on the bench: it is a difficult moment for the Spaniard and people expect so much from him. Yesterday, in my opinion, he also started quite well together with the rest of the team, then at the distance he dropped and was a bit hidden.

Mario Ielpo for Milan TV:

Not counting the mistake of playing the ball by hand, you can't fault Milan on the defensive. Lecce did nothing in this match. We lost points because of our individual mistakes in two phases.

Conti? He made 2-3 incomprehensible mistakes for a player playing at a high level, including playing with his hand, which resulted in dictating the penalty. Without Calabria, Milan are in a difficult situation on the pitch.

📰| AC Milan are putting together a package to entice Pep Guardiola to San Siro when his deal with City expires in 2021.

AC Milan higher ups believe that he is the perfect man to get them back on track, and plans are in place to bring Marc Overmars as the DOF.

According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, Ismael Bennacer could get a new role at AC Milan. After starting the season as a regista, the Algerian could be used as a mezz'ala by the new manager Stefano Pioli. Currently, Lucas Biglia has cemented his spot as the regista, which makes it hard for Bennacer to get any playing time.

One area of the pitch that has been constantly changing for Milan this season is the regista position, and Stefano Pioli is beginning to gain an understanding of his future plans, a report claims.

Lucas Biglia and Ismael Bennacer found themselves alternated almost equally under Marco Giampaolo, but Pioli’s appointment has seemingly been good news for the Argentine as the pair worked together at Lazio.

As a report from MilanNews.it notes, Biglia has the ‘charisma and maturity’ to not be discouraged by the draw against Lecce, while Pioli is leaning towards starting him at the Olimpico against Roma on Sunday.
However, €16m summer signing Bennacer is chomping at the bit to become a starter once again and Pioli likes the Algerian’s characteristics such as his intensity and fighting spirit, meaning he could still find a spot in the starting XI.

The report goes on to mention that there is a possibility of the two starting together, with Bennacer as the mezz’ala (likely in place of Franck Kessie) – a position he has often played before.

Former Juventus director Luciano Moggi has spoken to 7Gold about the rumours linking Argentine forward Rodrigo de Paul to AC Milan. The Udinese man has attracted the interest of top clubs in recent years with his strong performances and is quickly looking to have outgrown the Udine side.

'He was already to arrive at the beginning of the championship, but for a thousand reasons it did not go through. They are now restoring interest and almost certainly will go to Milan: it is the player who serves the Rossoneri.'

AC Milan’s Davide Calabria is one of three right-backs being targeted by LaLiga giants Real Madrid, a report claims.

The 22-year-old has established himself as a key part of the Rossoneri’s starting XI over the last couple of seasons since his promotion from the youth department.

He kept his place in the side despite the arrival of Andrea Conti from Atalanta back in 2017, and reports have suggested that Calabria will pen a new deal at the club.

Tuttosport – as cited by Calciomercato.com – claimed earlier in the month that the 22-year-old has indeed reached an agreement over a new long-term contract.

However, according Fichajes.net – as cited by Calciomercato.com – Real Madrid looking for a replacement for Alvaro Odriozola and have narrowed it down to three names.

Calabria is one of them, the report claims, while the alternatives are Lukas Klostermann of RB Leipzig and Youcef Atal of OGC Nice.

It has previously been suggested that Calabria could cost somewhere in the region of €45m.

AC Milan forward Suso spoke at the sidelines of the signing with new sponsor Puma, saying that: 'I am proud to be part of this family. I am working hard to be able to give my best on the pitch for my fans and my club.'

Milan have had a tough start to the season and have already replaced Marco Giampaolo with Stefano Pioli, as the Rossoneri sit in a disappointing 12th place, winning just three of their first eight games of the season.

On their website, AC Milan have revealed the extent of Mattia Caldara's injury, with reports previously suggesting that he will be out for a couple of months.

“AC Milan announces that Mattia Caldara, following the injury he had obtained during last Saturday’s training session, underwent instrumental tests that showed a partial lesion of the Achilles tendon and a lesion of the my-tendon junction of the medial twin muscle of the right calf.

“The player must remain at rest with a limb in discharge and with a guardian for three weeks, a period in which he will undergo specialist revaluations to better define the therapeutic and prognostic process," the statement read.

Following his injury, as it's believed that the recovery phase will take more than three weeks, Milan could be forced to signing a defender in the January transfer window.

Home » Zlatan Ibrahimovic ends hopes of Milan return by announcing next move – video

Zlatan Ibrahimovic appears to have extinguished any hopes of a possible return to Spain by suggesting his next move will be to Spain.

The Swede has been constantly linked with a potential move back to the Rossoneri ever since he left the club for Paris Saint-Germain in 2012.

Paolo Maldini’s comments over the weekend added fuel to the rumours that the 38-year-old could make a comeback, branding him a ‘dream player’.

It was then confirmed by Ivan Gazidis at a shareholders’ meeting on Monday that Milan will look for more experience in the January window.

However, it seems that there will be no return to Serie A for Zlatan…

Leo Duarte for Andrea Conti, Ismael Bennacer for Lucas Biglia and Samu Castillejo for Suso would be Stefano Pioli's changes for the next match against Spal. Via
