Man Utd lose Sancho, turn to Chiesa
Football Italia8 Hours Ago

After Borussia Dortmund announced Jadon Sancho is staying, Manchester United turn to other targets, including Federico Chiesa and Douglas Costa.

Sancho was their number one target, but this afternoon Dortmund director Michael Zorc made his position very clear.

“We plan on having Sancho in our team this season, the decision is final. I think that answers all our questions. Last summer we adjusted Jadon’s salary to match the development of his performances. So, in context, we had already extended his contract until 2023 back then.”

This means Manchester United have to look elsewhere for an attacking right-sided winger and could turn their focus to Serie A.

Italy international Chiesa is 22 years old, so not far off Sancho’s 20, and can play in a variety of positions.

He is on the market, but Fiorentina made it clear they will only sell for the right price, believed to be in the region of €60-70m.

That is again considerably less than the over €100m requested for Sancho.

Despite the Viola struggling this term, Chiesa still scored 11 goals with nine assists in 37 competitive games between Serie A and the Coppa Italia.

A more experienced alternative, as named by the Daily Mail and Sun newspapers, is Douglas Costa, who turns 30 next month.

The Brazilian is not part of Juventus plans for the future and has also been linked with Manchester City.

He is too injury-prone for the Bianconeri to continue investing in and would be available for €30-40m.

Douglas Costa contributed three goals and seven assists in 29 official matches for Juve this season.

Pioli reveals he takes inspiration from Liverpool boss Klopp and Man City’s Guardiola

AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli has revealed that he draws inspiration from both Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola.
The Rossoneri went on an exceptional run after the resumption of Serie A as they went 12 league games without defeat, winning nine of them including memorable victories over Roma, Lazio and Juventus.
That allowed them to snatch a Europa League spot, something which seemed almost impossible given the situation that Pioli inherited when he took over from Marco Giampaolo’s disastrous seven-game reign.
The impressive stretch of results as well as an eye-catching, expansive style of football earned Pioli a new two-year deal with Milan, meaning they will go into next season with continuity being the new buzzword, whereas before it seemed like it would be revolution under Ralf Rangnick.
Pioli was interviewed by La Repubblica, and discussed those that he is inspired by on a managerial level.
“Guardiola and Klopp, at the highest level,” he said (via MilanNews).
“But, I take inspiration from many situations, like dead balls, for example, which I took from Cali’s America.”
Pioli was also he asked for a renovation of Milanello: “Only small improvements: the rooms and the changing rooms (for the players and staff). It is the most beautiful place in the world to work at, but in some parts a little outdated.”
On playing behind closed doors: “I do not agree that players were freed of San Siro’s pressure. The second part of the season was unusual, and the fans are rightly demanding.
“The players are looking forward to the embrace of San Siro. It will be an extra factor to consolidate the latest results.
“A letter to Milan fans: let’s meet again as soon as possible. It is right that Milan returns to its levels.”

I read all the controversy about the purchase of the young Emil #Roback, born in 2003, arriving from # Hammarby for 1.5 million and therefore considered a "bribe" paid to #Ibra. Then I wonder where all these fans were in the years when 8 million commissions flew for #RodrigoEly.🙄 https://t.co/6qbeEW6dko

One of the controversy is that zlatan gave a condition of milan signing 17 year old Emil Roback before he can agree to a contract renewal. Like he forced their hand into signing the young lad.

A follow up to the controversy is that the 17 year old is one of zlatans foundation prospect back in sweden.

AC Milan are on the hunt for midfield reinforcements this summer, and one name that is yet to be seriously linked is Cagliari’s Nahitan Nandez.

In November, Cagilari were achieving dizzy heights. The Sardinian club were in fourth place in the standings and were even in the running for a European spot.

Their rise to the top was mostly in part to their dynamic three-man midfield in the form of Radja Nainggolan, Marco Rog and Nandez in a 3-5-2 which often morphed into a 3-4-1-2 formation with Nainggolan playing as a makeshift trequartista.

One of the finds of the season in Serie A has to be Nandez. If Nainggolan was the aggressor and Rog was the defensive cover, Nandez was the engine in the middle. Combining tireless running with technique and aggression, Nandez kept the midfield ticking and helped transition from midfield to defence and vice versa.

With the modern game involving a lot of pressing and quick transitions from defence to attack, midfielders require a lot of energy and Nandez brings bundles of that to the team.

The game seems to be centred around fluid attacking football and as a result managers want versatile players who can shift positions. Nandez can play as a defensive midfielder, an attacking midfielder, a box-to-box player or even as a right midfielder (mezalla).

When Cagilari are transitioning from defence to attack, Nandez shifts into a trequartista role behind the strikers to supply them with passes. With his speed he is able to play with the attacking midfielder in order to create overloads. He also brings the ball out from the back and helps to launch quick fire counter attacking chances.

With his vision he has exceptional positioning. He finds himself in space behind Torino defenders and then unleashes a shot to score.

Nandez provides a cross to to Joao Pedro to score with great technique.

We can see that Nandez is a very aggressive player who brings intensity, which in turn makes him a threat to teams that are in possession.

He will press the player relentlessly and his tackles are very clean and well-timed giving away very less fouls. Another important part of his game is the fact that he intercepts passes quite well by reading various contextual clues of the opposition players such as body posture and direction of his gaze.

Nandez dispossess Calhanoglu cleanly with a tackle despite a precarious situation developing.

Conclusion

Nandez presents a really good opportunity for Milan to find an upgrade in the field, and given his versatility he can play anywhere from holding midfield to playmaker.

The major obstacle is the reported €38m release clause that was inserted into his contract when he recently signed an extension with Cagilari. In terms of interest, Nandez has not really been linked with any clubs but Inter, which perhaps says a lot about how he is viewed by a team with title aspirations.

Hammarby sporting director on what Milan can expect from Roback: “He has a gift”

By Oliver Fisher - 11 August 2020, 14:48

Hammarby sporting director Jasper Jansson has lifted the lid on what AC Milan can expect from reported new signing Emil Roback.

SportExpressen reporteer Daniel Kristoffersson reported earlier today that Milan are about to sign Roback from Hammarby – the club where Zlatan Ibrahimovic is part-owner.

Roback signed his first professional contract six months ago and made his debut for Hammarby in a cup game against IFK Göteborg earlier this year. Since then, he’s been playing for Hammarby’s affiliate club IK Frej.

“Emil is a striker with great physique, speed and is already an experienced scorer,” he said (via MilanNews).

“He has a gift: the X-Factor. Roback is fast, strong and a natural goalscorer. He has good physique and extreme speed.”

In 2019, Roback played 25 matches across youth level and scored 18 goals. For the Swedish under 17 national team, he has played 10 matches and scored five goals. He is believed to have attracted interest from both Arsenal and Bayern Munich, but in the end has chosen a move to Italy.

Tuttosport: Real Betis the frontrunners in race for defender as Milan’s stance is made clear

By Oliver Fisher - 11 August 2020, 12:23

Real Betis are pushing to try and sign AC Milan defender Davide Calabria this summer, a report claims, and the Rossoneri have laid out demands.

Calabria and Andrea Conti have struggled for consistency all season leading to suggestions from a number of different media outlets that Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara will look to address the issue by signing a new starter.

The Rossoneri continue to be linked with a number of possible replacements, and Emerson Royal of Barcelona – currently on loan at Real Betis until 2021 – has been mentioned as a possible option.

According to a report from Tuttosport on Tuesday morning (via MilanNews), Betis have overtaken their city rivals Sevilla in the race to land Calabria:

However, the paper adds that Milan are only willing to sell him outright or on loan with obligation to buy. That would allow Milan to make a pure capital gain as the full-back is a product of the Rossoneri youth sector.
