“We have few players with personality & a lot of youngsters, they need to grow quickly.

When players with experience & personality are missing it makes it hard (to win) as we saw vs Benevento

I’m not worried but things just change & we need a different mentality immediately”

Official: Stadio Diego Armando Maradona
by Football Italia
The Mayor of Naples announced the Stadio San Paolo will be renamed the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

There had been a few versions of the plan to name the stadium after the Napoli and Argentina icon, who died on Wednesday at the age of 60.

Among others, the Stadio Comunale Diego Maradona, or the Arena Diego Maradona.

Mayor Luigi De Magistris announced this evening via his official Instagram page that the decision has been made.

“There are many wonderful ideas, but at the end of the day, the name will be: Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.”

The work is already in progress to have the stadium renamed and the council assured the items placed outside by fans in a huge shrine will eventually be brought inside and preserved in a special room in the arena.

Among them, a fan-made metal plaque that already bears the name Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

AC Milan looking to sign Real Madrid winger
Posted on November 29, 2020 by Rossonero

Real Madrid winger Lucas Vazquez is headed to AC Milan, a report claims. The Spanish player becomes a free agent at the end of the season.
According to reports from Don Balon (via MilanLive.it), Real Madrid winger Lucas Vazquez has chosen AC Milan as his next club. The contract of the 29-year-old Spanish player expires in 2021 and president Florentino Perez is not willing to offer him a new deal and aims to lower the team’s wage cap.

Lucas has understood that Madrid have already made up their mind and is looking for a new club. Among other things, he is among the least paid players of the squad earning 3.5 million euros per season. Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane is quite furious with the decision of Florentino Perez given the great contribution Lucas Vazquez has given over the years.

An excellent opportunity for the Rossoneri who can sign the player as a free agent at the end of the season or for a modest figure in January. Vazquez has spent practically his entire career playing for Los Blancos primarily on the right wing. A very experienced player that has won numerous trophies during his time at the Santiago Bernabeu.

AC Milan have identified Vazquez as the perfect replacement for Samu Castillejo. The former Villarreal has failed to cement himself as a regular starter for the Rossoneri. AC Milan are open to sell him if an offer of 15 million euros arrives either in January or at the end of the season.

Technical director Paolo Maldini wants to have more quality in that area of the pitch and Lucas Vazquez is seen as a radical improvement over Samu Castillejo. The Real Madrid right winger has made 216 appearances with the Spanish giants scoring 24 goals and providing 47 assists. His pace, ability to run directly at opposition defences and his preference for hugging the touchline make him a fine weapon to use both when chasing games and when trying to run them down.

Maldini phones Perez to ask player on loan
Posted on November 29, 2020 by Rossonero

MaldinAC Milan are looking to sign a new centre forward in January and according to reports from Spain the solution could come from Real Madrid.
AC Milan are trying to sign a new striker in January. The injury of Zaltan Ibrahimovic, who fortunately is expected to return in a short time, highlighted a big problem for the Rossoneri: the absence of a viable alternatives in attack. Pioli has to adapted Rebic in that role but the coach knows it’s not his. Rafael Leao is out and Lorenzo Colombo doesn’t have the experience to fill Ibra’s shoes.

Help must come from Elliott and therefore from the mercato. Maldini and Massara are well aware and for this reason they are already at work. The idea is to sign a striker without spending too much or preferably on loan.

Arkadiusz Milik and Olivier Giroud are two targets but the solution could come from Real Madrid. Mariano Diaz is one of the many redundancies in Zidane’s squad and relations with Los Blancos are excellent. The 27-year-old centre forward could become the third Real Madrid player to join Milan in recent years.

According to TodoFichajes.com, Maldini has phoned his friend Florentino Perez to to ask Mariano Diaz on loan. The idea of the AC Milan technical director is to take him on dry loan until the end of the season. Diaz could be an excellent solution for Pioli who would have a good alternative in attack to Ibrahimovic. Zlatan cannot play every three days and with Milan progressing in the next stage of Europa League reinforcements are needed.

Marseille blast Maldini for Thauvin pursuit
Posted on November 1, 2020 by Rossonero

Paolo Maldini’s compliments for AC Milan transfer target Florian Thauvin have not gone down well with his club Marseille.
AC Milan are not pleased with the contribution of Samu Castillejo this season and are looking for new names to improve the right wing. One of Paolo Maldini’s transfer targets for that role is Marseille star Florian Thauvin.

A few days ago the AC Milan technical director openly declared his admiration for the French winger. “He’s a player who will be at the end of his contract, so he’s interesting from an economic point of view. He’s not exactly the type of player we have signed in the past two years regarding his age. However, the right mix is created with many young players and some more experienced who can give a little more“.

Thauvin was quite pleased with those words. “Maldini’s interest? These are things that make me happy. When a football legend speaks so highly of you. It made me happy, I thank him a lot.” Marseille, on the other hand, were not at all impressed by Maldini’s comments. Marseille coach Andre Villas-Boas criticized the AC Milan legend for his actions.

“I don’t know what will happen (with Thauvin), the market is unpredictable. We will wait for the last week of January, as is customary. There will be many loans. Maldini’s words? They are a bit false but since you are Maldini, you can say a few things. It wasn’t kind of him, but it’s normal. He’s Maldini, he has the right to say what he wants“.

AC Milan player reaches agreement with next club
Posted on November 1, 2020 by Rossonero

AC Milan defender Mateo Musacchio has already reach an agreement with his next club to join them on a free transfer.
AC Milan are moving in these weeks to renew the most urgent contracts, those of the players expiring in June 2021. One of these, however, has decided to leave Milanello and join a new club on a free transfer. Mateo Musacchio, still out because of a knee injury, will return to Spain where he spent the majority of his career.

According to reports by Todofichajes (via MilanLive.it), AC Milan have informed Musacchio that his contract will not be renewed and the Argentine defender has already reached an agreement with his next club.

The 30-year-old centre back will return to Villarreal. That would be a sensational return for Musacchio who played for the yellow submarine for 8 seasons from 2009 to 2017.

Villarreal are a second home for Musacchio who left Argentina at a very young age, about 19, to join the Spanish club. In the summer of 2017 the Argentine defender joined the Rossoneri for a figure of 18 million euros as part of a number of players that were supposed to start a new cycle under president Yonghong Li.

During his 4 years at San Siro the former Villarreal has made 73 appearances with AC Milan. He was a regular starter in the first two seasons but eventually fell down the pecking order since the arrival of Simon Kjaer.

“Before that, Barbara Berlusconi had offered me to return to Milan, but I refused. I also had the opportunity to join PSG with Leonardo.”
Maldini revealed some insight into how a player goes from being on a short list to signing for the club.
“It is impossible to watch all matches. There must be a scout in the club to work for you. You have to clearly define what kind of player the team needs,” he said.
“Scouts can tell us what happened and how much has changed in at least 5 years back. This is the football revolution. Let me give you an example based on the defence: finding a good defender seems like an easy task for me, but you have to look at it more broadly.
“One day I would ask for a defender who only does well in his position. Now I would try to find a strong defender who can do well in one-on-one duels, and then I would try to teach him to work well in his position.
“However, it is difficult to teach a player to compete in one-on-one duels, strength and concentration, so selection is important.”
