None of Ibrahimovic, Saelemaekers, Bennacer and Gabbia will be available against Juventus. The same lineup started against Benevento will be fielded against Juventus except for Krunic in Tonali's place. Only doubt is between Castillejo and Brahim

Milan manager Stefano Pioli confirmed that Zlatan Ibrahimovic is unavailable to face Juventus: “He'll not be there tomorrow.” ⛔🇸🇪 #ACM

🎙 @Pirlo_official: "@PauDybala_JR is doing pretty well, he should be available for the game.

Tomorrow will be a special evening for me, having experienced many memories with Milan. It was wonderful as a player, I think it will be the same as a coach."

#MilanJuve

Pioli: “Did Kjaer say nobody is stronger than Milan? Until now it has been like this. We have made an incredible journey. What Simon said fits everything. But you have to prove it game by game. In Italy there are seven top-level teams for the first four places.”

🎙️Pioli:“I expect a growing Juventus team, which undoubtedly has had to start a new path, but remains a very strong team, well placed on the pitch.

If you dribble too much they can hurt you, with speed, quality, verticalizations. We will have to be lucid from a tactical point of view.”

“There are a lot of important data that show how good we are doing right now. We have always set ourselves small objectives. Tomorrow, we want to try to win against Juventus as well.”

“Milan against Juventus is always a great match. It is an important match and we know it. But the league is a marathon, this is only a game, important, but not decisive. We want to have a great match, knowing that within the game we will find some difficulties”

🎙️Pioli:Leao is growing, he does not have the same characteristics as Ibra and therefore we have to understand how to serve him . I see in him a great desire to grow and improve.”

“All matches serve to show our worth. Tomorrow we will have a high level opponent in front of us and therefore we will have to raise our performance. We must try to put on the best possible performance.”

“The league hierarchy changed for us, yes. We scored 17 points more than last season at this stage. The road is the right one but we cannot speak of a decisive match in the 15th, we face all the matches as an important match.”

AC Milan have yet another crucial game on Wednesday night as they welcome fierce rivals Juventus to the San Siro.

The Rossoneri know that with a win they will stay top of the Serie A table and extend the gap to Juve to 13 points, but a slip up could see them surrender first place to city rivals Inter.

It has been a turbulent start to the season for the Bianconeri under their new head coach Andrea Pirlo, but Stefano Pioli is expecting a tough game against a difficult opponent as he revealed in his pre-match press conference.

Game date: Wednesday 6 January
Kick-off time: 20:45 (CET)
Venue: San Siro
Referee: Massimiliano Irrati

Team news

Matteo Gabbia, Ismael Bennacer, Alexis Saelemaekers and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are still recovering from their respective injuries and will miss the game. In addition, Sandro Tonali will not be eligible as he picked up a red card in Sunday’s win over Benevento.

Simon Kjaer recovered for the game in Campania though and he both be ready to start again in a 4-2-3-1, while Theo Hernandez is back after serving a one-game ban.

All major sources are predicting that it will be Davide Calabria on the right, Kjaer and Alessio Romagnoli as the centre-backs and Theo on the left protecting Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Rade Krunic is expected to partner Franck Kessie in the midfield, with Samu Castillejo on the right, Hakan Calhanoglu down the middle and Ante Rebic on the left of the three behind the centre-forward Rafael Leao.

Probable Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Donnarumma; Calabria, Kjaer, Romagnoli, Theo Hernandez; Krunic, Kessie; Castillejo, Calhanoglu, Rebic; Leao.

The opponents

Juve have begun to click a bit more in recent weeks after a stuttering start under new boss Andrea Pirlo that saw them draw three of their opening four league games.

They have lost just one of 14 Serie A fixtures though that did come in the round before their recent 4-1 win over Udinese as they were beaten 3-0 at home by Fiorentina to close out the year.

The Bianconeri finished top of their Champions League group too, beating Barcelona 3-0 in the final group game to leapfrog the LaLiga giants into first spot.

There are some problems for Pirlo to deal with, however. Sky Italia (via MilanLive) confirmed yesterday that Alvaro Morata is injured and will not take part in the game, while the club confirmed that Alex Sandro and Juan Cuadrado have tested positive COVID-19 and will therefore skip the game.

Pirlo revealed earlier today that Paulo Dybala might not be fit for the trip because he currently has a fever, with Sky predicting the following line-up…

Probable Juventus XI (4-4-2): Szczesny; Demiral, Bonucci, De Ligt, Danilo; Chiesa, Bentancur, Rabiot, Ramsey; Dybala, Ronaldo.

Head to head

Milan’s record against Juventus is as follows: 217 matches, 62 wins, 69 draws, 86 losses, 282 goals for, 324 goals against.

The Rossoneri have won just one of their last 13 fixtures against Juve in all competitions, and that came last season, with the victory before that a 1-0 win thanks to Locatelli’s screamer back in October 2016.

In fact, Milan met their Turin opponents 30 times between 2010 and 2020 across all competitions and won just four times, losing 21 of those games.

Of course the overriding memory from this fixture is last season’s game post-lockdown at San Siro, when Milan overturned a 2-0 deficit having conceded to Rabiot and Ronaldo, roaring back with Ibrahimovic (penalty), Kessie, Leao and Rebic to win 4-2.

Match facts (via WhoScored):

➤ Milan have scored at least 2 goals in their last 17 matches (Serie A).

➤ Milan are undefeated in their last 27 matches (Serie A).

➤ Milan have been winning at both half time and full time in 6 of their last 8 matches (Serie A).

➤ Juventus are undefeated in 13 of their last 14 matches (Serie A).

➤ There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 5 of Milan‘s last 6 home games (Serie A).

➤ There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 5 of Juventus‘s last 6 games (Serie A).

Ones to watch

For Milan, it feels like the attention will be fixated upon both ends of the field as they look to continue their excellent goalscoring run and keep the away side at bay at the other end.

Rebic enjoyed this same fixture earlier in the year and will be key, as will Hakan Calhanoglu, but there is the impression that Rafael Leao’s exploits will be very important in determining the outcome of the game as he must once again try and step into the shoes of Ibrahimovic.

Meanwhile, it will be yet another big test for the Romagnoli-Kjaer centre-back pairing as both have simply one job: keep Cristiano Ronaldo quiet.

It is the Portuguese superstar who is undoubtedly the main threat for Juve with 14 goals in the league and 18 in all competitions already this season, but attention must be paid to their right side now where Theo could find some joy.

Prediction

While Juventus have problems going into this game and haven’t looked the same beast this season, the Rossoneri are still a wounded animal themselves really and beating the nine-time-in-a-row Champions is going to be very difficult.

We want to predict a win, but a game like this is just so big for both teams (for various reasons) that a draw seems the most likely outcome.

Prediction: Milan 2-2 Juventus

Milan offers €15M cash + bonuses for Simakan.

A cash payment is interesting in this period and in a world of football where installments are common.

The transfer seems imminent.

Juventus delay Milan trip after COVID cases
Football Italia3 Hours Ago

Comments
Juventus will delay their journey to Milan until tomorrow morning after another round of COVID swabs after Alex Sandro and Juan Cuadrado tested positive.

The game is due to kick off on Wednesday at 19.45 GMT, click here for a match preview.

Alex Sandro tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday, then it was announced today that Cuadrado had also been diagnosed with Coronavirus.

There are growing concerns this could turn into a hotspot with the virus spreading through the squad, not least because Paulo Dybala had a fever yesterday.

Dybala had COVID for several weeks last year and has still not quite got back to 100 per cent.

Juventus will therefore err on the side of caution and stay in Turin until the results of the latest round of swabs arrive on Wednesday morning, according to Sky Sport Italia.

It is a short bus journey to Milan from Turin, so they’ll have time to travel ahead of the 19.45 GMT (20.45 local time) kick-off at San Siro.

Former referee Graziano Cesari has given his thoughts on some of the decisions that Massimiliano Irrati made during Milan’s game against Juventus last night.

Cesari spoke to Pressing (via MilanNews) about incidents that took place, and explains that while Calhanoglu essentially committed a foul with both his arm and with his hip in the build-up to Milan’s equaliser, VAR was right not to intervene.

That is because Irrati was very close to the incident and raised his arm to signal that there was no foul. This means that the VAR can not intervene, because the protocol says that if the referee designates that he saw the incident and believed it wasn’t a foul – as he gestured – then it is not something that can be reviewed.

Cesari also confirmed that Irrati rightly gave the advantage as Milan countered after Castillejo was chopped down by Bentancur, but then he had to go back and give him a second yellow but didn’t. VAR cannot intervene in this case because it would be for a yellow card (even though a second yellow, it is still a singular yellow card) and not a straight red.

Finally, the ex-referee cannot defend Irrati for the mistake he made in not giving Brahim Diaz a penalty after he was fouled by Adrien Rabiot in the final stages.

Mirabelli: 'Milan now see fruits of our labour'
Football Italia8 Minutes Ago

Comments
Former Milan director Massimiliano Mirabelli feels his administration deserves some of the credit for their current success. ‘You can see the fruits of our labour.’

The Rossoneri are still top of the Serie A table, even after losing their 27-round unbeaten league record in a 3-1 home defeat to Juventus.

“Stefano Pioli is doing a fantastic job because he hasn’t based it on individual talents, but always having an organised and compact team, all with the same spirit,” Mirabelli told news agency Adnkronos.

Mirabelli was in charge during the 2017-18 season, alongside Marco Fassone, under President Yonghong Li.

“I am happy with what Milan are doing, especially as if you look carefully, half the squad is there because of the work we did.

“I am therefore doubly happy to see the fruits of our labour. However, I do think the current administration have delayed too long in negotiations for contract extensions.”

Gianluigi Donnarumma and Hakan Calhanoglu’s deals are running down this summer.

Di Marzio also confirms that despite giving Milan the priority at first, Kone to Borussia is down to details for around €9M. Milan had offered Toulouse €5-6M

Milan and Calhanoglu are distant regarding the contract right now. His agent will be in Italy next week to discuss Milan’s €3.5M/year offer, Hakan asks for €7M

Mario Sconcerti on #TMWRadio:
• The day says that Juventus is back: "It was a very interesting match, not of great quality.
Juve started well, but then it was Milan who pressed the most and perhaps this consumed them too soon, game decided by the quality of the changes.

Milan had many absentees, like Juve, but the bianconeri had valid substitutes.
The idea of Calabria in midfield was excellent, it reminds me very much of Gentile for the ease with which he marks and proposes himself.
Juve is back in the Champions League zone.

The two knockouts of the Milanese have reopened the standings, especially for Roma, which were the ones who were able to earn points, they deserve it.
They have been playing the best football in Italy for some time.
Roma still have to beat a big team and this is a limit.

But on Sunday they have the great opportunity with Inter and then with Lazio.
There it will be understood if Roma are worth Milan, Inter and Juve. "
• Milan great sense of team, despite the absences: "You can see how they have made added value with the company.

They paid for the pace of the match very strongly.
They suffered a lot in the second half.
But it is only the first defeat, now they start again".
