It is now official, Carlo Ancelotti has left Everton and is the new coach of Real Madrid, a return to the club he left in 2015. ‘I have been presented with an unexpected opportunity.’

The Italian tactician comes back to the Bernabeu and has signed a three-year contract to June 2024.

He was bought out of his contract with Everton, who he joined in December 2019, just days after he’d been fired by Napoli.

Ancelotti turns 62 later this month and returns to Real Madrid, where he won the Champions League during his brief tenure from 2013-15.

Zinedine Zidane resigned following a disappointing season and there had been several options to replace him, including other Italians Antonio Conte and Max Allegri.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Ancelotti is set to earn €6m per season.

“I would like to thank the Board of Directors, the players, and the Evertonians for the tremendous support they have all given me during my time at the Club,” Ancelotti said in a statement on the Premier League side’s website.

“I have complete respect for everyone associated with Everton and hope they can achieve the exciting opportunities they have in front of them.

“While I have enjoyed being at Everton I have been presented with an unexpected opportunity which I believe is the right move for me and my family at this time.”

Roma announce Henrikh Mkhitaryan will stay at the club under new coach Jose Mourinho and extends his contract to June 2022.

“In these two years, Roma won me over, as a squad and a city, thanks to the incredible passion of the fans,” he told the Roma website.

“The club is very ambitious and I am truly proud to give my contribution to face the challenges that await us next season. Daje Roma!”

The 32-year-old midfielder had taken a few days to make a decision, having clashed with Mourinho during their time together at Manchester United.

However, they resolved their differences and Roma announced via social media this evening that Mkhitaryan will remain at the Stadio Olimpico.

His contract already had an option to extend for one more year after its expiry in June 2021.

He has now agreed to sign a new deal to June 2022.

Mkhitaryan had a very strong season with the Giallorossi, contributing 15 goals and 13 assists in 46 competitive games.

🎙️ Duncan Castels (Daily Record journalist) in the podcast "The Transfer Window", Gigio Donnarumma would have found an agreement in principle with Paris Saint-Germain. He could be loaned for the first year. The PSG will bet on Keylor Navas for next season. https://t.co/gin8ehQUhT

Atalanta are targeting Bologna defender Takehiro Tomiyasu and midfielder Mattias Svanberg.

The two clubs are friendly and have already done several deals together, most notably Musa Barrow making the move to the Stadio Dall’Ara.

The forward arrived on loan in January 2020 with obligation to buy for €14.5m in the summer of 2021.

That bill is now due and the sides are discussing how to lower the cost of the operation for Bologna.

According to Sportitalia and Tuttomercatoweb, that could include player exchanges or first pick of some sought-after Rossoblu talents.

As well as Jerdy Schouten, Atalanta are also interested in Japan international defender Tomiyasu and Swedish midfielder Svanberg.

Raiola went back to Milan to see if they were willing to reconsider negotiating for Donnarumma. It’s unlikely that he comes back to Milan because Milan signed Maignan + Raiola would have to accept Milan's terms
