False, Migingo is currently under joint ownership as we await the conclusion of survey work which unfortunately got stalled after the Ugandan team pulled out. Both country's police officers are manning the Island. Now tell us about Lake Nyasa. Is it still yours?

The three got into a tiff with their Ugandan counterparts, according to a source from the disputed island, after which the armed Ugandan officers unleashed terror on the Kenyan officers beating them severely.
The source claimed that the Ugandan officers who were heavily armed took on the hapless AP officers who could not defend themselves since they were outnumbered.
Working on orders from the head of operations of Ugandan Police in the island, the ugly incident is said to have occurred in full glare of residents of the island.
The official report is that the Ugandan police had allegedly left to go to Nyandiwa and they were stopped by the APs who insisted that if they were go to venture into Kenyan waters, then they had to leave their weapons in Migingo. This angered the Ugandans who allegedly dared the APs to set foot in Migingo.
"When the officers stationed at Ugingo came to buy food at Migingo, the Ugandan Police descended on them causing a ruckus that attracted the locals' attention causing a huge gathering of onlookers who witnessed the whole scenario," said the source.
By the time Kenyan police arrived at the scene, the APs had already been injured.
The officers were rushed to a local dispensary for treatment.
Confirming the incident, Nyatike deputy County Commissioner, Moses Ivuto, noted that it was an unfortunate incident which is being sorted out. He noted that most likely the new head of Ugandan police in the island was not aware that when his officers cross over into Kenya, they should not be armed and should be given escort.
"I must say that the matter is being investigated and must not be used to strain relationship between these two friendly countries bearing in mind that the issue of the island has been contentious," said the deputy county commissioner.
Ivuto further noted that one Kenyan officer slid and fell on the rocks that mark the island. He said that an amicable solution will be found to the incident.

Kenya and Uganda have in the past differed over the small island, which a joint survey by both countries showed is in Kenya.

I knew you would bring this up in order to reinforce your claim and to achieve maximum damage on my counter response. Well i' am not fooled. There have been and continues to be some mutual mistrust/misunderstanding between the two police forces and this one incident was just one of those. Of importance is that these episodes have always be handled and solved to the satisfaction of both parties. Now back to my question, say something about Lake Nyasa/Malawi.

if a Tanzanian soldier/police is beaten on the section we believe it is ours then it is a war! The Tanzanian section is having our vessels and our people are fishing and no Malawian can sneak his/her nose! As a matter of fact oil exploration exercises were stopped by Tanzania till the dispute is solved

kenya wamemaliza shida kubwa Somalia.. sasa wanaenda DRC kusaidia baadaye tupeleke majeshi kusaidia Malawi kuna fununu wananyang'wa urithi wao na inchi jirani!

cha ajabu Mingingo imewashinda kuitoa Uganda

The biggest problem with you guys is seeking to remove a speck in the neighbors eye while failing to notice the log in own eye. Kenyan policy is to first exhaust all diplomatic avenues before resorting to military might. This is exactly what TZ is doing too with regard to Lake Malawi. In the case of migingo, the two countries agreed to a survey exercise before anything else. Should we fight while we are still in talking terms? And how is this your business anyway?

I' am sure it is not as simple as you put it. In 1978/79 Uganda-Tanzania war it took more than a beating for TZ to mobilize for war, your Kagera region was invaded and occupied for a while and citizens were killed too and not just one but many.

tukishamaliza na Malawi tunakuja na nyie,...makalio yenu!

Ethiopia deploys security to Turkana

Updated Tuesday, August 13th 2013 at 23:29 GMT +3

By Lucas Ng'asike
Turkana, Kenya: Ethiopian security forces have moved into Lake Turkana following attacks blamed on its Merille clan members.

For the last two weeks, the Merille militiamen have attacked Kenyan fishermen at the Todonyang border point leaving 10 dead.
A source within the Kenyan security personnel dispatched to respond to the attacks said there was a heavy presence of Ethiopian security personnel at the lake.
"They have started patrolling the area, especially along River Omo delta where the militia usually strikes," said the officer.
The motive behind the deployment of the Ethiopian forces to the lake was not clear.
Ethiopia's South Omo Regional Commissioner Maloka Dettachew had defended the militia saying Turkana fishermen had confronted the militia in Lake Turkanaand shot dead a militiaman and injured an Ethiopian police officer during a shoot-out.
However, Turkana North DC Erick Wanyonyi said theMerille militia had illegally crossed into Kenyan territory and attacked the fishermen.
Strained relations
"We have even petitioned our Ethiopian counterparts over this but so far we have not received any feedback even as the killings continued along Lake Turkana," Wanyonyi said.
The administrator said they were not at war with Ethiopia but security threats by the Merille militia group at the Omo Delta was straining the relationship of the two countries.
"The militia threats on the Kenya- Ethiopia border can be handled at other higher levels of governments. This is an issue that can be addressed once and for all by the States in a very a diplomatic manner," the DC said.

The DC said they have deployed security personnel to carry out an operation across Lake Turkana to recover the stolen boats and fishing gears from the militia.
Area MP Christopher Nakuleu and Turkana Senator John Munyes condemned continued killing ofKenyan fishes by Merille.

Nakuleu claimed the militia wants control of Lake Turkana resources especially the flourishing fishing activities at the delta on Kenyan side.

i want u to be true to urself and stop comparing Lake Malawi that is under our jurisdiction (our ships are floating in that water (3 mores are to be introduced next year) and our soldiers are patrolling that waters to send any intruder away) and ur unsecured borders all across northern and North east Kenya plus Western! only a mad man can do what u r trying to do..

Okay Geza, let's be fair and debate sensibly. True, our borders in the North and west have occasionally been infiltrated by foreign militia/ cattle rustlers many of whom often kill citizens while stealing their cattle, but this is also true of our nomadic citizens such as the Turkana, Pokot and Borana who also make excursions across the borders to raid for cattle. Governments in these regions ( Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia and Sudan ) have remained understanding and this is why nobody has gone to war over the same. The Kenya- Tanzania border is the most quiet of all our borders and this is why you never hear of any cross border raids except a few minor incidences which again have received the understanding of the authorities of the two nations.
As for Migingo, you know as much as i do that all the necessary avenues must be exhausted before we resort to anything else, for now we will await the results of the survey work even as police from Kenya and Uganda jointly man the Island. Indeed no country in East Africa ( Tanzania included ) would want to see an armed conflict and this is why everyone has urged for restrain. For Lake Malawi, this will be the same and i bet TZ will be the last to go to war unless extremely constrained to do so.
