Was He Really Born to Be King?
From day one, Prince Charles was a man of firsts and would often break the royal mold. In November 1948, a young Princess Elizabeth gave birth to Charles, with newspapers reporting at the time that he was a “lovely boy, a really splendid baby.”

Amazingly, the newborn prince was the first royal baby to be born at Buckingham Palace in the 20th century. While he didn’t have to grow up during the first or second world war, Charles would have his own battles as the years progressed…
Passing of the Crown
6 February, 1952, marked a bittersweet time in the history of the British monarchy. King George VI, Charles’s grandfather, was diagnosed with coronary thrombosis and ultimately passed away. This meant two important things. Firstly, George’s daughter, Elizabeth, immediately became the Queen of England.

Subsequentially, at just three years and three months of age, Charles was now the first in line for the throne. This would begin one of the longest periods that any royal has had as heir…
The Little Prince
As the years went on, Charles was given and more and more titles. However, one of his most important titles came in July 1958, when his mother Queen Elizabeth II named him Charles Prince of Wales. It made sense, seeing that the nine-year-old was a male heir to the throne.

Over a decade later, Charles was officially crowned as Prince of Wales at Caernarfon Castle. Despite his royal duties building up, Prince Charles was still determined to have some sort of normality in his life…
Like Any Other Student
As he grew into his adolescence, Prince Charles continued to break royal norms, determined to have some sort of “normal” life, whatever that might mean. In October 1967, he became the very first royal heir to attend university.
He studied at Trinity College, Cambridge until finally graduating in 1970 with a 2:2 in anthropology, archaeology, and history. Many casual fans wondered why a member of the British royal family wasn’t able to graduate with a first. Some speculate that it was for the following reason…
Open for Select Guests
Whilst Prince Harry and Meghan have moved away from their royal lifestyle, they’re still living a pretty lavish celebrity life in Los Angeles. Their new property in Montecito is on a 7.38-acre site, and is bordered by perfectly trimmed hedges.
Open for Select GuestsAs well as the main house, the property also has a two-bedroom guest house. This would be perfect for Markle’s mother, Doria, but somehow we can’t imagine the Queen resting her bejeweled here.
Closer to Meghan’s Mom
Whilst the Sussexes have moved thousands of miles away from Harry’s family, Meghan’s mother lives relatively close to their new abode. Doria lives in a neighborhood of L.A. in a house that she inherited from her father. Meghan’s mom’s house is around two hours away from the Montecito mansion, and is a more modest two-bedroom, two-bathroom property.
Closer to Meghan’s MomPrior to her daughter’s entry into the British royal family, Doria worked as a social worker for a mental health clinic.
Missing Royal Engagements
Of course, living life between two continents can wreak havoc on your social calendar. Predictably, Prince Harry can no longer participate in a whole range of royal events, engagements, and traditions. For example, the Prince will miss William’s upcoming charity polo match because he will be in the US with his wife and son.
Missing Royal Engagements
The King Power Royal Charity Polo Day is a high profile polo match, and has been enjoyed by the royals for 15 years.
Wearing Diana’s Diamonds
We’ve seen that Meghan Markle hasn’t been treated well by the British press, and that probably has something to do with her late mother-in-law, Diana. Princess Diana came to be remembered as “the People’s Princess,” and was also polarizing, just like Markle.
Wearing Diana’s DiamondsComparisons between the two royal women were heightened when Meghan stepped out wearing one of Diana’s diamond rings. The aquamarine diamond ring was left to William and Harry, and then passed on to Meghan.
Back to the UK
It’s important to note that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle aren’t completely finished with the UK. In fact, they do plan to spend half of their time in each country, just not as senior working royals. Omid Scobie claimed on his royal podcast, The HeirPod, that the couple would be back in the UK to watch the Trooping of the Color.
Back to the UKScobie also claimed that Harry and Meghan intend to be in the UK for the grand unveiling of the Princess Diana statue.
The Future Is Bright
The Sussexes have already started finding work outside of the royal family, including several lucrative deals. The husband and wife have reportedly been offered a megadeal by streaming platform Spotify, where they would produce a series of podcasts. Former First Lady Michelle Obama also signed with Spotify following her exit from the White House and has been very successful.
