a turboprop and a jet engines are very different technologies that are prefered for different purposes.... fuel effitiency is just one factor, there are many other factors that make airlines go for other aircrafts....things like cruising speed, comfort, laguage capacity, maximum weight to carry, Maintanance costs and support services.... for example after KQ purchase of the embraer jets- embraer make KQ maintanance hanger the only Authorised maintaner of embrae planes in Africa, Boeing too did that (for South Africa too) So all African countries operating those aircrafts have to bring their aircrafts here for maintanance.... ... plus other foreign aircraft owners from outside africa make sure their fhlight routes include nairobi so to get there aitlines checked before proceeding..

The answer is yes, but before we go into that, how long Magufuli has been in power, and how long has Kagame been in the power.
Tazara railways, Central railways, Uganda pipelines, revoking underperforming mining licence, taking back all title deeds of dubious business people who used to hold land for speculative, talks are on going on licencing lake Tanganyika to drilling oil together with DRC and Zambia, fire all those corrupted leaders, cleaning up gov. employee registry, Dar roads improvement with flyovers, start construction of 7km Salender bridge over the ocean, reduce gov. spending, renew air Tanzania. The list is long and all that in space of only 12 month.

It is a fact that Kenyan Avaitation industry is the most advanced in this region, I can go to bed just fine..... An airline like African express is bigger than jambojet and most people who dont visit the airport don't even know the airline...


Yes, airlines are interested in fuel saving but like I said, their are many things to be considered... first off all most modern planes that sell have very effitient ways of saving fuel....it is only that some save more than others.. i have not done my research to assertaing if the Q-400 is most effitient in its category but for this purpose lets assume it is... and lets compare a few things I remember to the E-190 ....

So what does the q400 got going for itself other than fuel save, huh?
lets say for every trip to and fro in a distance of 500km the q400 saves $2000 on fuel...Or lets wven make it a whole $5000 saved on fuel for one complete trip. well and good .... on yearly calculation, that looks very good on a book, alot of money saved....

but on the other hand comparatively, a plane like the E-190 is heavier, consumes more fuel... but it does carry 18 more persengers (could those 18 more persengers fare pay for the fuel lost and still spare some change? )
in addition, it has less noise, there is more overhead space this accormodating lager bags and lagguage for each persenger .... it comes with screens on the back of each seat...... unlike the q400(although am not sure)
So for a legacy airline that wants to maintain a reputation of exquisit comfort, inflight entertainment , other services like zero charge on upto 35kg laguage...... faced with those kind of stats which model of plane do you think the airline will go fir????? what about a low budget airline that wants to charge like 40% less fare? which pland will they go for?

Your statics of number of passengers doesn't hold water, its all depends with seating configuration. Some configuration give Q400 up to 90 PX seats. Most people nowadays travel light especially on short haul.

At least you've prove it for yourself, Q400 is far more cost effective than E190, in fact it cut that number by half ($ 7.5 and $13.8 per n.m.). This is what drives airline executive into the hands of bombardier. Even though the company have number of other type of aircrafts like C Series, but Q400 is the one to beat.

Shorter runway is still an important part of many Africa counties, not all the countries can afford to have world class facilities even though the number of PX is bigger than expected. Take look at Congo DRC, with population of over 80 million, there places you can't reach without air transport especially in the rainy seasons.

There is no rule book which states that an airline can not be a budget and non budget at the same time. Airline separate those two categories for tax reasons.

BTW did you just wrote this to justify Jambojet leasing pangaboy? SMH this proves that Tanzania was making the right call, the fuel efficiency of those aircraft can not be bitten by any aircraft in the market today with similar number of seats.

First and foremost, lease instead of buying.
Second, figure out what you want from the planes, don't buy to win some political points. Hii biashara sio mzaha.
Thirdly by understanding your objective. Choose your planes carefully. If you want to fly between Dar and arusha, you are probably catering to locals. If you want to go regional, or continental, the customer experience is key. Hakuna mambo na kubana matumizi hapa when you are catering to international clients.

Am not sure, but we will never get to know the financial performance of the tz airline. I guess its like a parastatal so some info will be hidden. Unlike Kq which is publicly quoted and has to bare it all. Even strategy is made public to the joy of competitor airlines.
