Kenya Airforce To Retire F-5 Fighter Jets After Somalia Combat Operations
After conducting hundreds of air raids on militant positions, training camps, bases, and logistics posts, the F-5 Tiger fighter jet will most certainly retire and allow a new fleet to guard the Kenyan airspace.
Geopolitics and Defense procurement complexities has hindered purchase of F-16 fighter which could have replaced the fleet 2 years ago.
KDF has been working hard to secure an American deal but costs and maintenance contracts often obscures the deal.
However, the oil production dream and the stable economic growth promises better days for KDF pilots.
Procuring new planes requires plenty of planning and training of the pilots. Also establishing new runways for the aircraft’s is a need.
KDF lost one of the F-5 Tiger’s in Somalia along with its pilot after it crashed.
The aircraft avionics failed as the pilot maneuvered back to the airspace after bombing a foreign fighters training camp near Kismayu Somalia.
The pilot killed over 80 Al-Shabaab fighters in the airstrike.
US Navy Seabees Constructing Jet Handling Runway In Wajir Airbase Kenya
US Navy Seebees, the Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 3 will start to greatly expand the runways at Wajir Airport and Military airbase.
Wajir Airport was built by HZ, an Israel construction Company between l977 and 1978, as a military airbase.
President Hon Mwai Kibaki of the republic of Kenya commissioned the airport to accommodate larger military aircrafts operations in 2009
US Seebees confirmed that this is the biggest project they have ever worked on besides emphasizing that the type of aircraft to be used in this particular airport might be superior.
Intelligence on how large the new runway will be or even the specific types aircraft that will be able to use it is still scanty.
The US Navy unit will bring its own equipment confirmed Cdr. Scott Raymond, the unit

It will only happen when the sun rises from West to East. When will Kenya procure F-16s? That's the important question.
