Wote wanaouza nchi huwa wanachukua asilimia ndogo tu ya kile kinachoibiwa. Mwacha akome huko huko kama fundisho kwa wengine.

Naam hili lina ukweli kabisa. Baada ya Ballali kuondoka nchini serikali ilikuwa na nafasi chungu nzima ya kumrudisha nchi ili kutoa ushahidi kuhusiana na wizi wa EPA lakini wakafanya usanii wa hali ya juu ili mradi kuhakikisha Ballali harudi nchini. Hata serikali ya Marekani ilipotoa offer ya kusaidia kumrudisha Ballali nchini kama ingepata ombi hilo toka serikalini, serikali ikakaa kimya bila kuichangamkia offer hiyo ambayo inaonyesha wazi kwamba serikali ilihakikisha inafanya kila njia Ballali asikanyage tena ardhi ya Tanzania. Sasa anakula kuku kwa mrija huko alikojichimbia na mabilioni ya walipa kodi wa Tanzania.

PM: Kagoda pressure mounts on DPP

Director of Public Prosecutions Elieza Feleshi will soon have to respond to mounting pressure from all sides and reveal details on the controversial Kagoda Agriculture Limited, Prime Minister Mizengo Pinda has said.

The firm is alleged to have siphoned off 40bn/- of the 133bn/- stolen from the Bank of Tanzania`s (BoT) External Payments Arrears (EPA) account.

Talking to editors in Dar es Salaam yesterday, the PM said the DPP was currently holding the Kagoda file and diligently working on it, along with the other 12 EPA case files but he would soon have to announce the details on Kagoda because the pressure was coming from everywhere, left, right and centre.

``The government is not embracing Kagoda as some people think. A lot of people had also thought that the government would not be able to deal with EPA at all but as you can see, people have been taken to court.

You will see the DPP revealing Kagoda`s details and this will have to be soon, it can`t be indefinitely,`` he said.

Responsible for over 45 per cent of the money stolen by the 13 companies whose investigation is complete, Kagoda poses a litmus test to the government on its ability to deal with grand corruption in Tanzania.

East Same MP (CCM) Anna Kilango on Sunday urged the government to speed up the process of arresting and charging Kagoda owners.

The Chairman of Confederation of Tanzania Industries (CTI), Reginald Mengi kick-started the appeal to the DPP last week.

The Premier thanked the media for the work they had been doing in exposing corruption, thus aiding the government in its development agenda.

Asked why then had the government punished the media through a controversial ruling on closing down the MwanaHALISI newspaper, which went totally against the spirit of freedom of the press, Pinda said the closure was most unfortunate.

``I was briefed by the minister in charge that the newspaper editors had been warned on three separate occasions for writing what the minister deemed as inappropriate.

He told me he had asked the editor to present evidence over what he had written but the editor failed to do so, so using his powers, aided by law, he closed down the paper,`` said the PM.

He added that Tanzania had set a very good culture of press freedom which was known everywhere and the government had every intention to maintain that.

``Some foreign envoys actually approached me after the MwanaHALISI closure asking me about this and if we could quash that ruling.

We failed to do that because it would have looked like as a government, we are fighting within ourselves. However, it really was an unfortunate incident,`` he said.

Pinda advised editors to take the matter to court to challenge the minister\'s ruling. This, he said, would also help the media in the long run.

He also said given the incident, it was important that the Media Service Bill, which among other things, seeks to do away with outdated laws that chock media freedom, such as the Newspaper Act 1973 which was used to close down MwanaHALISI, should be speeded up.

The PM said that the draft bill had already been handed over to the minister and he had requested to pursue it so that it does not rot at the minister`s desk.

Challenged if the government had shown double standards by punishing MwanaHALISI so severely but having taken no action against the government owned HabariLeo that had also carried a similarly controversial story, the PM said he had followed the debate over the issue and heard the minister say in Parliament that he had summoned the newspaper`s editors and warned them.

He said he could not say anything over the fact that the editors had denied being summoned by the minister and said since the debate on whether the minister lied to Parliament or not was still on, the outcome remained to be seen.

He, however, urged media personnel to abide to professional ethics so as to avoid friction between the media and the government.

With so much friction everywhere, the government is not in the good books of teachers, Ex-EAC workers, students etc. Is the government overwhelmed? PM was asked.

``Not at all. Such problems are common. I remember after Mwalimu`s presidency, when President Mwinyi came to power, his first five years were very rough.

Things got better during his second term. Similarly, President Mkapa`s first term was also very rough.

Now Kikwete is having it rough, just like the others, but things will calm down. We are definitely not overwhelmed,`` Pinda said.

Sasa ngoma ipo kwa DPP kuchuja ni yupi apelekwe 1. Wakurugenzi waliofungua Kampuni 2. Mmiliki wa Kampuni 3. Aliyerejesha Fedha ??? Huo ni usanii, na kwa kuwa ssm inalelewa na Rostam, Manji na Sonil Tamil, Subash Patel, Jeet Patel (huyu huwa anafanya mpaka party nyumbani kwake kuwapongeza viongozi wapenda misosi ya bure wasiofuata maadili ya uongozi wao - hakuna kitu cha bure toka kwa mhindi wewe subutu!!!) na wengineo basi haki itendeke si kumtesea Mwakosia wa watu selo wakati wao walipewa order ya kutekeleza mipango ya over night ya minjemba ya ssm.
