Tazara mambo ni motoooo New railway coming: Govt to link Mpulungu Harbour to TAZARA

Government plans to build a new 192-kilometre rail connection to link Mpulungu Harbour to the Tanzania-Zambia Railway (TAZARA) at Nseluka near Kasama in Northern Province.

The rail is expected to boost trade with three other nations that share borders with Lake Tanganyika, the world’s longest freshwater lake.

Ministry of Transport and Logistics has advertised for companies to express interest in financing, building and running the concession.

According to a request for expressions of interest for the financing, designing, construction, operation, and maintenance, Government wants to transfer some priority railway projects and connect them to international markets.

“It is also envisaged that bulk and heavy cargo such as sugar, cement, coffee and some minerals currently hauled by road will be transported by rail, thereby prolonging the lifespan of road infrastructure,” the notice reads.
