Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Executive Director Sharifah Buzeki has told Parliament that 95 of the 96 people affected by the Kiteezi landfill disaster have received compensation, with payment to the remaining individual still pending.

Appearing before Parliament’s Committee on Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE) to respond to queries arising from the Auditor General’s report, Buzeki said the outstanding payment had not been made because the beneficiary was out of the country.

She added that the funds earmarked for the remaining compensation had been returned to the Ministry of Finance.
