More than 180 solders of Somali National Army escaped to Mandera after Al Shabaab attacked their camp in neighbouring Bullahawa town Monday morning. At least a dozen of them had injuries when they arrived at the Kenyan border and were admitted to Mandera hospitals, officials said. Others included 14 civilians.

Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) came to the help of the SNA in Bullahawa by bombing various positions that Al Shabaab militants had taken over. Witnesses said the militants withdrew and escaped amid heavy bombardment from the KDF choppers minutes after the attack. North Eastern regional coordinator Mohamud Saleh said the escaping soldiers were held at a facility in Mandera town after being disarmed.

“Some had injuries when they arrived at the border. They came with their equipment and vehicles before they were disarmed and processed,” he said. Saleh said the soldiers would be taken back to their town because the terrorists who overrun their base had escaped. It is not clear how many soldiers had died in the dawn attack on the base that is few kilometers away from Kenyan border. Security agents were put on standby over fears of spillover from the Al-Shabaab attack on a Somali military base in neighbouring Bullahawa, Somalia. Mandera residents said they could hear explosions and gunshots from the Somalia side with many troops running to Kenya.

180 soldiers took off with all their equipment, surely Somalia government will never stand on its own and the day KDF will pull out of Somalia it'll be the beginning of the end of current government.

yeah the Somali govt is very fragile...imagine soldiers fleeing from terrorists...what abt civilians?

But I remember you once of supportive to NASA's plan of KDF exiting Somalia, I guess that'll be suicidal because once Alshabaab takes over Somalia, we should be prepared for massive onslaught of those zombies crossing over to Kenya.

but as per now we are still losing lives because of terrorists...why cant we leave Somali and deploy KDF to the border to prevent infiltration...by the way even the Somalis want KDF gone...imagine na vile tumewasaidia hawa watu....lemme remind you that Ethiopia shares a border with Somalia but they never attack Ethiopia...sisi na kiherehere tunapeleka troops wanaenda kulala huko...

I think Kenya needs to just make up her mind and decide that the war in South Somalia is our responsibility and no other country will help us . I don't care how much it cost. f I was in charge I would not play around with this issue, I would call all KDf chiefs and ask them what equipment, tools and how many soldiers do you need to completely dismantle alshabaab financial networks, training grounds, supply routes and train enough SNA troops to take care of Somalia after we leave, I will give them a timeline of 8 Months to use everything they've got... After those 8 Months all th equipment used in Somali shuold be handed over to the Somali government.
When KDF comes back they should do an audit and start aprocess of aquirng new equipment....

he current situationwhere Kenya waits for AU,EU, US,UK send money to Amisom, then Amisom in Mogadishu decides next mission, blahblah, the soldiers spend too much time with rules and protocols it beats the mission, AMisom now does the work of policing instead of soldiering..

During Operation Linda Nchi KDF donated Landrovers to Ras-Kamboni brigade
