Kenya Airways applies for direct flights to JFK Airport in US starting May

I dont think kuna mtanzania akona rating ya 787 unless wanatrain saii
labda wapo, lakini they are not hired by the local airline. They must be serving fot the major airlines abroad.
Its not that simple, wale wa kufanya pre-flight check na wale wakufanya minor inspection kwenye hanger ndo wanaweza andika kazi kama wako nao, lakini complete overhaul repaires and checks ambazo ni more advanced zinafanywa kwa certified Service centers.. Kila ndege lazima ifanyiwe mandatory check baada ya miezi kama mitatu hivi kwa hizi cervice center, hao pekee ndo wanuwezo wa kupeana certficate kwamba this plane is safe for flying for the next few months if well mainintained.....

Kwa mfano Embraer which has manufactured thousands of planes for export around the world has only 10 global cervice centers.... meaning if you want to repair your plane you have to fly it to one of these centers or take it back to the manufacture
For one to be satifyied by boeing they must have long experience of flying and maintaining large boeing planes, they also must have a clear safety record..... for these reasons Tz can not be satified anytime soon with only one boeing on order and no safety record since the airline is quite new with no experience.

Embraer approves Kenya Airways Maintenance as their 10th global service centre
Kenya Airways’ in-house maintenance base at their Embakasi headquarters has just received recognition by Embraer as the manufacturer’s 10th global service centre, now permitting the airline to also maintain Embraer E-jets of various makes like the E170/5 and the E190/5 operated by other airlines.

In May did Kenya Airways obtain approval as an Embraer maintenance base from EASA, the European Aviation Safety Agency, paving the way for the manufacturer to follow suit with KQ being the only sub-Saharan such facility in Africa.

Kenya Airways has for many years been offering maintenance services for Boeing aircraft to outside customers. The airline’s predominant aircraft types currently are Boeing B737-700NG’s, Boeing B737-800NG’s, Boeing B787-8’s, Boeing B777-200LR and Boeing B777-300ER among their passenger fleet, besides two Boeing B737-300 freighters which were converted from former passenger aircraft to boost the airline’s cargo capacity across the region and into the wider continent.

Aircraft maintenance is a hugely profitable business especially in Africa where fewer maintenance centres for the major manufacturers exist and Embraer’s seal of approval will now allow KQ to source such contracts from other airlines in Africa and beyond which are seeking EASA and manufacturer approved MRO services.

That's what I said, with airlines its not just a walk in the park, Tanzanians think they'll buy Boeing 787 and start beating us left, right and centre

Our safety record is impressive with no major incident or accident.

Tulianguka kidogo na sasa tumeamka tena.

But surely, there must be some few Tamzanians skilled in Boeing operations and maimtainace, but not necessarily serving im Tanzania. There has to be at least one.

Propaganda gani?

wacha kujenga nyumba za makaratasi, safety is a continuous process.. Imetuchukua karibu miaka nane kupata category one airport security status kutoka FAA (thats just safety of the airport), unafikiri itachukua tanzania niaka mingapi kupatiwa aprroval na Boeing ili muwe na ruhusa ya kuchokora chokora midege, kuibomoa na kuunganisha kila kitu vile mtakavyo hapo dar????

Let me give you an hypathetical example of your safety record vs a KQ record over the last decade...e.g
ATL record for the last 10 years: planes 5 flights taken 50,000 ---incidents 1, current international flights zero, long haul planes zero(one on order)
KQ record for the last 10 years: aircrafts 50, flights taken +4 million --- incidents 3, international destinations 47 on 5 continents..long haul plane 40

Who do you think will be more trusted by an insurer??????

Wachana na ile unafikiria, hapo siongelei kuhusu zile kazi za ki spana boi.... Naongelea advanced stuff the kind that only the manufacturer can do... First you need very expensive machines and special equipment which cost alot of money.... There are things like 'wing allignnent' ,jig testing.... Do you know at KQ maintenance base they can manufacture from scratch any mechanical part of a plane given the specification? If a planes wing has come off, they can fabricate a new one from scratch and it would look exactly like the one the manufacturer can make.... Even Kenya airforce get some of their spare parts fabricated in KQ maintenance base because KAF can't afford those expensive machines.... Those kinds of advanced stuff is what am talking about, boeing can't allow just anyone to do that kind job and risk catastrophic disaster

Basically at a satisfied service center like at KQ, they can dismantle or strip down like 70 of all the parts/components and reassemble all of them without risking the ability of the plane to fly..
I think the whole thing is called MRO (maintenance Repair and overhaul) most small airlines can only do maintenance stuff but repair and overhaul they cant do... The same thing happens with ships.. Some of the navy ships in the region have to sail to france or italy for repair and overhaulsand retrofit... In kenya (Mombasa) I only know SECO limited that can do that, ships from as far as Mozambique get overhauled at seco dry docks

I hope you have evidence to back up your clam that KQ can fabricate aircraft parts from scratch eg aircraft wings. Ikiwa nchi kubwa yenye aircraft manufacturing history like Russia are not allowed to produce any part of Boeing or Airbus, how could Kenya be allowed to do so huku Kenya hasn't produce or build any commercial aircraft. Aircraft parts are produced uniquely to that particular aircraft. Meaning a part for Boeing 787 A, can not directly be fitted to Boeing 787 B, modification and testing has to be cared out before the transition. Manufactures like airbus or Boeing they hold these secret very close to there chest. There is difference between replacing tires or glass window to produce tires or class windows from scratch. I tell you, if British airways or Emirate flies to Kenya and fly out with parts which are not been supplied by original manufacture, that aircraft will be grounded until safety check had been cared out.

But is Tanzania not a member of ICAO? Does Kenya rule book given by ICAO different to the one in Tanzania ?? How many foreign airlines fly to Tanzania with all sort of aircrafts and leave without an incidence. Kama tungekuwa nyuma in term of safety, kuna airline ingekuja hapa including KQ?

Wow, kumbe Kenyan aviation industry imeendelea kiasi hiki? I wasnt aware bout this, if yd asked me, I would have assumed that KQ and the other airlines here simply purchase their parts abroad. Thanx for the info.
