Tumeaminishwa kwa muda mrefu kuwa GoK aslani haifanyi biashara. Huu uzi sijauelewa au?
Wala haipo kwenye biashara, serikali inachofanya ni kuliokoa hio kampuni ya KQ isifilisike,moja ni kulinda hadhi ya nchi,pili shirika hilo ni nguzo mhimu Sana katika uchumi wa nchi . Kuwepo Kwa KQ kunachangia mambo mengi mno .
 
Okay here are the details
a) This is a proposal by parliament, they can only recommend but it is up to the cabinet especially the secretary of transport to pick up the recommendation.
b) I am not for this Idea, KQ as a semi-private company has done much better than when government had total control, it had essentially collapsed under government.
c) To reduce the loss, pilots must take a pay cut., The KQ pilots already earn almost three times what a pilot would earn in ethiopian. The GOK also needs to reduce taxes on spare parts, given that it owns 48% of KQ.
d) Incase this is taken up(Which i doubt, it will), GOK will pay all shareholders including banks which are the second largest holders after GOK, then KLM after that will be the individual shareholders.
e) I much prefer the KenGen Model to 100% government ownership(It is a lesser devil).
As in many countries Tax cuts work to free up resources for building businesses.
KQ was government owned until late 80s when it was privatized. It was then a small airline that was rundown like other African national airlines that have since collapsed. KQ would have met the same fate had it not been partially privatized with competently sourced management from private sector.
 
KQ already has a sovereign Guarantee of about Kshs 95 Billion. They should just reduce redundant personnel, reduce salaries for pilots.

KQ has revenues of Kshs 119.18 Billion(slightly above $1 Billion) , a wage burden of about 25 Billion, if they cut salaries for pilots and reduce staff they will be able to cut this burden by almost 20%, then with Tax cuts(60%) on aeroplane parts they will reduce cost of fleet ownership from 22 Billion by another 20%.
 
For those who think this is cast in stone, they should know that it is part of nine recommendations, among them is also removal of taxes like Railway levy that KQ pays for its jet fuel which does not make sense.
Another recommendation is Total exemption of KQ from paying taxes at all

Inawezekana lengo lao lilikuwa ni kuipita EAL, lakini wakasahau kuwa gharama za uendeshaji wa EAL ilikuwa controlled sana, faida na gharama za uendeshaji vilikuwa vinaenda pamoja, wakati KQ gharama zake za za uendeshaji zikawa ni kubwa kuliko faida. KQ ilijikuta inanunua ndege nyingi sana mpya wakati EAL ilikuwa ina trade ndege ilizokuwa nazo. Ndiyo maana niliwahi kuandika kuwa ATCL lazima iwe makini kuhakikisha kuwa gharama za uendeshaji hazizidi faida. Wasinunue ndege nyingi sana bila kuwa na mpando wa kuzitumia

I thinks its perfectly in order for the government of Kenya to weigh all options in regards to KQ and its management. Its Kenya's national carrier after all and at the end of the day, its path to success in the future is tied to the right decisions at this juncture in time. What we intend to do with KQ concerns nobody else but Kenyans.

Hata ukiondoa hela ya kulipia leasing, mishahara, mafuta bado ni hela nyingi sana zinafaa kusalia kama faida..... Hii ni kwasababu hela nyingi sana hutumika kulipa Serekali.... KQ wakiacha kulipa kodi ya kutumia JKIA na kodi ya kuagizia spare arts, watabaki na faida kubwa sana

And in a revelation meant to anchor its role as the key tenant at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, KQ disclosed that it pays $650 million annually to the Kenya Airports Authority—for use of the airport as its hub.
Landing fees

That amount does not include the $160 million it pays KAA in annual landing fees, $4 million in building and utilities rents and $2 million in concession fees.
“Furthermore, KQ pays KAA the Airport Pax Service Charge [APSC] that is dependent on the number of passengers departing from Kenya with the airline.
“In KQ’s case, that fee amounts to $430 million annually, accounting for approximately 50 per cent of JKIA’s total revenue from APSC per year,” the airline says in its report to parliament.
KQ has partly argued that should its proposal to run JKIA stand, travellers would see a drop in ticket costs in line with the reduction in the service charge, making it competitive in its operating hub.
But the revelation also means that KQ accounts for half of JKIA revenues, and KAA would be the biggest casualty should the heavy debt burden bring the airline down.
KQ has in the past two years revealed that it spent $170 million to clear its tax obligations with Kenya Revenue Authority, but carries security guarantees from Exim bank for six of its Boeing 787 Dreamliner’s, one Boeing 77-300 aircraft and one GEnx Engine.
