Kenya backed off from trade dispute with Tanzania

Hahah evidence? If u read carefully Capital fm states Tanzanian ban on Kenya's good was a retaliation of Kenya's protectionism!

I do not need to present an evidence, u are aware of Magufuli's rants early last year about the milk industry in Tanzania being dominated by Kenyans, and that that situation had to be reset.

This year saw the intensification of the efforts by the Tanzanian govt to undermine the Kenyan milk firms there. And it is not just tge milk companies.

Tanzania seems resentful of the fact that several key sectors in that country are dominated by the Kenyan companies. There's a covert economic war against the Kenyan owned businesses there.

Hahaha Safi sana

The milk row has been for years even before Magufuli I can even provide u evidences of Musoma dairy's protest on ur attempt to bar his products accessing Nairobi. The firm even filed a case at East African Court on ur protectionism!

The funny thing is Kenya will lose even the dairy market u control in Tanzania considering how Azam n ASAS r expanding n how Livestock ministry is modernizing the dairy sector. Bare with that fact, it's pure business on fair competition.

U r losing fairly my friend nothing sinister as even u urself settle for goods with quality n affordability. U better wake up as Kenyans from the lessons taught in business, stop thinking u own the EAC market. Man up n humble urselves n compete, below the belt tactics always backfire.

As Kenyans u should be thinking of engaging urselves on a business that u have a sustainable comparative advantage over Tanzania n not things like dairy n meat business. Truth to be told if a fair environment is assured in the region Kenya will lose a lot of businesses to Tanzanian companies, reason being the cost of production is lower in Tanzania. That's a naked fact..

Geza most of the things u have said today makes sense. I can see u also understand T.z economy very well. Lakini saa zingine hua unaamua kuwa mbishi na mjeuri sana na kuongea bila facts.

Kenya is doing your milk producers + all the other agricultural producers a favour btw, u shldnt be complaining or bragging that we need u that much. Without Kenya, the farmers there would suffer.

Just like the Lpg dispute today:

1) the Musoma milk ban was on grounds that it was not meeting the safety standards. And Kenya was demanding that the dairy farmers there improve on that.

2) there was already a glut in the Kenyan milk market that the processing companies couldnt accept anymore milk even from the Kenyan producers due to the oversupply. They did not wish a repeat of the 2010 scenario whereby the excess milk had to be poured in the drains ccos of the limited capacity to process it all, to the chagrin of the whole world!

See, even your own farmers acknowledge the importance of the Kenyan market, they had to protest in the streets in imploration to Kenya that it should accept their milk. There isnt a milk industry in Tanzania worth talking about....even with that much touted about Azam whom u say will snatch the Tanzanian and the entire regional market, (ati including Kenya) from the Kenyan domination.

Tanzania cautioned over planned ban on imported dairy products

We produce around 20x more litters of milk a day as Tanzanian!

If no. 2 applies in Kenya why not in Tanzania? Free market principles do not allow a closure of a market since there is saturation of goods of few monopolistic firms! Acquaint urself with what free market means.

The fact is we have more livestocks than u n with current efforts from Livestock n Agriculture ministry, those cattles will produce more milk with time. A reason I said Kenya has no permanent comparative advantage over Tanzania on that front.

Try to check the number of Dairy projects current in execution btn Azam n ASAS n other dairy firms like Tanga fresh to know what I mean. My friend the competition is real n better brace urself for what the future brings.

Bcos your govt has promised to take action on those traders supplying Kenya with the substandard lpgs, but the plan hasnt been put on hold.
Ha haa, it was you! I told you. Hiyo mashine sahau, haiwekwi sababu zinakuwa zimeshakaguliwa na TBS huku, ndio makubaliano hayo EAC, zinazotoka kwenyu zinachunguzwa huko huko na a body responsible, then inapelekwa moja kwa moja kwa consumers wa Tz. Huo upuuzi mlikuwa mnaufanya ni uhuni na unyang'au, unadhani kwanini wameshindwa kujitetea na wamereverse maamuzi, because we could apply our own hooliganism and unyang'au and you would loose bad, your government understands this, ndio maana wamefyata mkia. That should show you ndugu, if you are intelligent enough, how businessmen run your corrupted country, 8th august is your chance to decide.

We got to be sensible here, if the local producers were being turned away, how could they possibly accept the milk from Tanzanians? And who in Kenya was even going to buy their milk?

Kwani si wangeuzia Azam!

U have always had more cows than Kenya, yet Kenya has over the years been producing more beef and milk than Tanzania!

Kenya is many miles ahead of Tz in this sector, toppling us from our current position will take years....till I turn 60 perhaps.

Kwanza hata your local consumption iko chini sana, u need to improve the interna demand before thinking about the external markets.

Tanzania ndio ingefaa kukagua hizo gesi lakini wahusika wakazembea kwenye majukumu yao. That is why Kenya had to pull a first one on u people.

The machines arr still going to get installed there at the border, Kenya will not renege on that.

Wepesi sana Hawa, alafu wakenya wanapaswa ishukuru bongo sababu tumewasaidia kuona venye serikali yao inajiendesha, walivo wepesi kuvunja makubaliano, walivopigwa cha juu gharama za sgr, walivyo radhi wananchi wao wanunue gesi expensive kisa protectionism, Haya ni machache, imagine yanayoendelea ndani ya mpaka wao. Serikali yao hovyo sana. Mungu awavishe salama huu uchaguzi Raila akabidhiwe kiroho safi mambo yawekwe sawa.
Mazee pro jubilees mambo hayapo sawa, mjaribuni Odinga kwa miaka mi tano tu kuliko kuendeleza huu uozo. Chances are slim though maana nasikia legislature wameafikiana na gova kwenda print zile paper dubai. Kwani katiba ilikuwa inasemaje hapa, au hamkuiongelea kwenye katiba yenyu ile bora kuliko zote Africa.

Kinachonishsngaza ni mentality ya watu humu ndani. Hii issue ni kama ile ya Mpesa monopoly yet charges r highest compared to Tanzania where monopoly is regulated.

In free market economies goods compete n those with more quality and at affordable price usually win. Less than that is protectionism!

I said even the Kenyan milk was turned away by the creameries, who was going to buy Tanzanian milk? Azam should have stepped in to rescue those Tanzanian dairy farmers.

Those are just a few Kenyan companies facing some setbacks in Tanzania, but there are scores of other Kenyan companies and their subsidiaries that are doing just fine in Tanzania.
Remmember, Kenya is one of, in fact the third biggest investor in Tanzania, with investments worth more than 2bn$.
