President Uhuru Kenyatta's government is among three administrations elected on the steering committee of the Open Government Partnership (OGP), a global body with representation from 78 countries and a growing number of local governments.

Together with Canada and Italy, Kenya will serve for a period of three years after winning an election that had four candidates including the UK.

The UK lost due to the election process which advocated for regional balance with Canada and Kenya landing automatic selection regardless of the results.

"However, given that there would be a single vacant seat for the European region, only one of the two European candidates (Italy or the UK) would be selected as determined by the highest number of points received," a statement on the organisation's website read.

OGP CEO Sanjay Pradhan congratulated the three governments on being elected to lead the global partnership.

“We warmly welcome these governments joining the Steering Committee at a time when democracy was already facing its greatest threat and now amidst the unprecedented challenges of the pandemic. The leadership role of our Steering Committee is critical to bringing together governments, civil society, and other stakeholders to ensure open and effective response and recovery that builds citizen trust and reinvigorates democracy post-COVID-19," he stated.

Within the committee, Kenya's role will be to develop, promote, and safeguard the values, principles, and interests of OGP.

The committee that will be led by the Government of Argentina, has been tasked with establishing the core ideas, policies, and rules of the partnership, and oversees its functioning.

“The Government of Argentina congratulates Canada, Italy and Kenya on their election as government members of the Steering Committee. We look forward to working together to leverage our leadership role to shape and deliver on OGP’s ambitious vision to build more transparent, inclusive, and participatory governments” the Undersecretary of Open Government and Digital Nation of Argentina Cesar Gazzo Huck stated.

The Steering Committee consists of 22 members - 11 from the government and 11 from civil society. This is the seventh rotation of the OGP Steering Committee since OGP was launched in September 2011.

Almost ten years after it was founded, OGP brings together government leaders and civil society advocates in seventy-eight countries to promote accountable, responsive and inclusive governance.

Kenya Beats UK in Race for Powerful Global Position

Yani wakenya habari nyingine jamani! ! Who gives a https://jamii.app/JFUserGuide !!!
Who cares if you are going to chair some bullshit committee somewhere! !?

If you do not know international relations is also development. It shows among african countries Kenya is flexing it's muscle on the international stage:
FYI: Kenya is also about to get a seat in the UN security council without African support. Canada is also looking to get a free trade agreement with Kenya to rival American influence in Kenya.

"OGP brings together government
leaders and civil society advocates in
seventy-eight countries to promote
accountable, responsive and inclusive
governance.
" NB: Tanzania ilijiunga na OGP mwaka wa 2011, ila bila shaka najua mpo mpo tu mnafata upepo. Kwasababu uwazi na demokrasia kwa sasa ni misamiati kwenu. Kwenye masuala kama hayo Kenya lazima iwe kwenye mstari wa mbele, maanake tukikosa wote ukanda huu tutakua tupo gizani.

Kenya should move on with her interests with or without African support..some of these nations that we call "our african brothers" are saboteurs at best.

Am glad you said some, a very negligable minority. In regards to the UN Security Council seat, Kenya won the African vote(AU) 37-13 against Djibouti out of a total of 51 votes cast. It goes to show that the usual childish and envious tantrums by our so called 'regional partners' don't hold water at the continental level. Kenya wins African vote to seek UN Security Council seat

This is just an attempt to diverge from the central issue in kenya presently! ie logarithmic increase of COVID 19 new cases in the country! 143!! God save our neighbours! Of course the safe they are, the safe are we, bearing in mind the constant daily and unavoidable interactions with them through cross boarder trades!!

What about Canada, Italy and UK? What are they trying to 'diverge'? This is international stuff man, not local market women gossip about 'kujifukiza'. Offcourse Tz is so lucky to be the only country in the world to have stopped COVID-19 in its tracks by ignoring social distancing, not doning face masks and failling in even the simplest of tasks, testing. Congrats neighbours.

You are very wrong!! We did not ignore COVID 19!! We took it very seriously!! As a country we fasted and prayed for three days!! That was our strategy and it worked out perfectly! Fear was completely neutralised. Since the matter was in the hands of God, there was no need for lockdown!! However do not be deceaved, all other precautions were observed perfectly such as putting on face masks, washing hands regularly and applying sanitizers. The COVID 19 problem was sealed off by thanks giving three days prayers.
Only next level ignorance can make someone think that Tanzania ignored the COVID 19 pandemic disease!!

Congratulations again, for winning the fight against COVID-19. Now, back to the topic at hand, democracy, accountability, responsive and inclusive governance.
