Kenya in bid to host free trade zone secretariat

Wednesday, May 22, 2019 21:06

Kenya will bid to host the secretariat of Africa’s free trade zone, due to be created in July, targeting the economic benefits that come with hosting international organisations.

Senior government officials are Thursday expected to market the country’s ability to host the permanent office of the Africa Continental Free Trade Area when it begins work in July.
A team of evaluators from the African Union are due in Nairobi today where they will assess facilities, safety and other criteria before making recommendations to the Council of Ministers at the African Union.
“Having the Secretariat come to Kenya would not only cement Kenya’s role as a lead country in trade and multilateralism but it would also avail Africa the best venue and the best opportunity to grow free trade to its full potential, for the benefit of all Africans,” Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Macharia Kamau said on Wednesday.
Signed by 52 of the 55 African countries, the treaty often known as AfCTA, will create $3 trillion (Sh300 trillion) continental free-trade zone encompassing 1.2 billion people for movement of goods, traders and workers with little restrictions.
Kenya will battle with Ghana, Senegal and Egypt; all who signed on the AfCTA when it was launched in Kigali in March last year, to host the secretariat.
The bidding document has not been made public, but officials said Kenya’s experience with hosting 24 UN agencies, several African Union offices and diplomatic missions adds to its ability to host the secretariat.

There are only three cities in sub-sahara Africa that are capable of hosting international HQ's. They are as follows;
1.Johannesburg
2.Nairobi
3.Lagos

Addis Ababa bado ni infant in this game, you can't compare it with Nairobi.

Tofautisha Ku-bid na kupata!!!
SIFA ZITAWAUA!!!!
Niwapi kwenye ripoti imeandikwa Nairobi imepata….Even if you did not read the article, the headline itself is very clear punda hii……And of course before you get the permission to host any African and International HQ's, you must bid....Tanzania can't bid because they can't even stand an iota of chance of hosting.

You are not even in the running.
It is Kenya vs Egypt vs Ghana vs Senegal.
You should replace your entire foreign ministry for lack of foresight.

They are only in Africa by name. They don't have the African touch, and their countrymen hate Africans.

Addis Ababa is the size of Westlands in Nairobi.

Issue ipo kwenye bidding process why mnaanza kujisifia????

Hivi wewe unajielewa. Unaijua sekeseke la Amina Mohammed kukosa kura huko AU lilianzia humuhumu.

Kwa taarifa yako tu. If Tanzania say no hamtapata. Na kama unabisha tulianzishe sasa hivi uone.

For sure, Though I am a Tanzanian and I love my country but on this I beg to side with you. Tanzanian we don't have that courage to bid for that, we are busy to arrest oppositions with false allegations and kidnapping people who rise hands to advise government what good thing to do and what good policy will prosper us to Canaan

Iko kwa bidding process, and that is what we did in all the other 56 International and African HQs in Nairobi...Just to name a few...BBC, CCTV, CNN, Google, Xinhua News Agency, World Bank,Toyota, Huawei, General Electric

So even this one will come to Nairobi...We have proven to have the capacity, human power, infrastructure and demoxratic space that allows everyone to thrive in a free environment protected by the law.
