Have you been able to find which location of the world this guy lives in?

He lives in Nairobi. That's the funny thing about it

could be before 98 he was living in daaadab or somalia before he came to Nairobi. i have one question, can alshabaab launch retaliatory attacks reminiscent to 98 nairobi us embassy bombings? nowadays there are remote control bombs. but such need their alqaeda counterparts from universities abroad to assemble for them.

Police Foil 29 Ugandans' bid to join Al Shabaab?????
Anti-terror police officers are questioning 29 Ugandans who were allegedly headed for Somalia to join the terror group Al Shabaab in fighting "Jihad war".

The 27 men and two women were arrested from a house in Maji Mazuri, Kasarani area.

Police had been tipped the suspects had been brought there by an Al Shabaab agent who wanted to facilitate their movement to Somalia.
And when the officers staged a raid on the house, they found them in rooms. They told police they had been informed, "they will be taken to Somalia where they will get better jobs".

Anti-terror police were on Thursday looking for the agent for questioning amid fears of increased number of foreigners seeking to go to Somalia to join the terror group.

The officers were also talking to the detainees as they sought help from Uganda to know their status.

Nairobi Area head of CID Peter Muinde said they were contemplating to release the Ugandans because there was no evidence to show they were headed for Somalia or they have terror links.

"We want to know their motive and if there are others here or on the way. But for now we have not obtained any evidence that can show they are terror suspects or sympathisers," he said.

Muinde added they suspect the Ugandans are victims of human trafficking.

He added they could not take chances in this era of terrorism and that is why they are questioning the suspects.

Group: Security forces abusing Somalis in Kenya

(AP) NAIROBI, Kenya - Kenyan security forces are responsible for a growing number of rights abuses - including beatings, rape and arbitrary detention - since Kenyan troops moved into Somalia late last year, Human Rights Watch said Thursday.

The rights group said one of its researchers witnessed security forces on Wednesday rounding up and beating residents in Garissa, a city near the Somali border, in an open field within the enclosure of a military camp.

"When military officers can beat civilians in broad daylight without fearing repercussions, it's clear that impunity has become the norm," said Daniel Bekele, Africa director at Human Rights Watch. "Repeated promises by both the police and the military to stop these abuses and investigate have amounted to nothing."

Kenya's military spokesman, Maj. Emmanuel Chirchir, told the group that he did not have knowledge of any abuses but that the military would investigate the allegations. The national police spokesman did not answer a call seeking comment.

Kenya has a sizable ethnically Somali population, particularly near the border with Somalia, where the militant group al-Shabab operates. Kenyan forces moved into Somalia in October in order to fight al-Shabab. Since then, Somali citizens in Kenya have come under increased scrutiny by authorities.

Human Rights Watch said that security forces have been behind rapes, beatings, lootings and arbitrary arrests of civilians, largely targeting Somali refugees and ethnic Somali Kenyan citizens.

The worst abuses, the group said, have taken place at Dadaab, which is home to nearly a half million Somali refugees. After a police officers were targeted and killed by explosive devices in December, police beat refugees and in several cases raped women, Human Rights Watch said.

Al Shabaab executes Kenyan spy

A man said to be a Kenyan fighting for the Al-Shabaab has been executed by the Somali militant group for alleged espionage.
The Kenya Defence Forces confirmed that the non-Somali Kenyan was stoned to death by the militants in Kismayu on Tuesday after he was convicted of aiding Kenyan troops identify their targets in Somalia.

"It is true, he was stoned to death. One of our people filmed the incident and sent us the pictures which are grisly," military spokesman Major Emmanuel Chirchir told the Nation.

According to reports in the Somali press, an Al-Shabaab court found the Kenyan fighter guilty of spying for the Kenyan troops fighting the militants in the war-torn nation.

The militants are said to have rounded up hundreds of Kismayu residents to come and witness the execution, a tactic they normally use to instil fear in the civilian population.

The victim is said to be one of the Kenyans secretly recruited from Nairobi's Majengo area and smuggled into Somalia to fight alongside Al-Shabaab.

MILITARY (KDF) APOLOGISES OVER MISINFORMATION quoted above

Military spokesman Major Emmanuel Chirchir has apologised for posting old photographs depicting a Kenyan Al-Shabaab convert being stoned to death by the militants on Tuesday.

"We take responsibility for the pictures which were taken by AP in the past. But it is true that a Kenyan was stoned to death in Kismayu on Tuesday, that is a fact ," he stated.

"I hear you, I take responsibility," the military spokesman wrote on Twitter after an American journalist pointed out that the photographs he had posted had been taken in 2009.

The pictures showed a man buried to his chest in the ground being stoned to death by masked men after which they removed his body from the ground.

The military spokesman had claimed that the man was from Nairobi's Majengo slums.

But Mukhtar Ibrahim, a Somali-American journalist based in Minnesota, revealed that the pictures had been taken by Associated press in 2009.

He added that the group responsible for the stoning was Hizbul Islam and not Al-Shabaab, way before the two militant groups merged in December 2010.

Al-Shabaab also dismissed the pictures, branding them a poor propaganda piece by the Kenya military.

"They seem unsophisticated, even in their propaganda campaign. A simple Google search would have saved them such an embarrassment," Al-Shabaab wrote on Twitter.

Kenya seems to resemble Nigeria and Pakistan (potential regional powers but too weak to protect their citizens) in many ways. It seems the northern part of the country is too exposed to extremists, both internal and external security threats. We need to review both foreign and defence policies of this country!

Somali Islamists parade Kenyan hostages
Posted by AFP on January 13, 2012

MOGADISHU, Jan 13 – Somalia's Islamist Shabaab insurgents on Friday paraded two Kenyan hostages kidnapped in revenge for Nairobi's troop deployment against the Al-Qaeda-linked group, rebels and witnesses said.

Heavily armed Shabaab fighters drove the pair on a pickup truck around the streets of Bardhere in the southern Somalia's Gedo region chanting "God is great," witnesses said.

"These people were captured from the enemy during a raid carried out inside Kenya by mujahedeen fighters," said Sheikh Ali Abu-Aweys, local commander of the Al-Qaeda linked Shabaab in Bardhere district.

"The fighters will continue carrying out such attacks to hunt down the enemy until they fully withdraw from our holy territories," he told AFP by telephone.

Hardline Shabaab insurgents killed at least six Kenyans including four police officers in an attack in Kenya's northeast, about 10 kilometres (six miles) from the Somali border late on Wednesday.

The insurgents also kidnapped three people believed to be local government officials, Kenyan police said.

"I saw two hostages on a pickup truck, they looked depressed… heavily armed men were guarding them as people watched them in the streets," said Mohamed Ismail, a witness.

Some witnesses said Shabaab gunmen ordered local telecommunication companies to switch off their systems during the display.

Al-Shabaab Names New Kismayo Commander

01/13/2012
Kismayo's Ousted Governor Sheikh Hasan Yakub Ali

Al-Shabaab today named a new administration for Somalia's port city of Kismayo after the militant organization fired both it's governor, Sheikh Hasan Yakub, and the head of preaching (Da'awa), Sheikh Abdinasir.

Al-Shabaab officials held a meeting in their Kismayo administration office and named a new administration for the city, according to an al-Shabaab official who spoke to Somalia Report on the condition of anonymity on Friday afternoon.

“Late today at around 5:00pm al-Shabaab officials, headed by Sheikh Fidow, called for a gathering where they named a new governor for the city of Kismayo,” said the official. “The new governor, Sheikh Abdurrahman Mudey, was sworn in office by Sheikh Fidow who descried him as a hero and one who can mobilize the youth to take part in the on going jihad against Kenyan Defense Forces (KDF) and the Somali government."

Sheikh Abdirahman hails from the Galje’el clan, which is the majority clan in Kismayo, whereas the outgoing governor was from Baidoa.

The new governor held several positions in al-Shabaab administrations including the interim governor Kismayo city and head of the preaching Da’awa. He also served on al-Shabaab's committee to curb the famine in the Gedo and Lower Juba regions.

The governor, who spoke after his naming, mentioned that he is going to focus his efforts on security and social welfare.

“Today I promise the people of this city that I am going to implement the laws of sharia in this city and that there will be no further harassment to the people of this city,” he vowed.

The governor also promised that he is prepared to wage holy war against the Kenyan forces and assured the people that he is not going to wait for the KDF to come to Kismayo, but instead fight them in the other cities.

“There will be no fighting in this city. We will mobilize our forces and fight the infidels in the other cities before they come and fight us here in Kismayo. We know Kenya’s intension is to exploit our resources and create instability in our country and our youth need to fight these plans,” he added.

Outgoing governor Sheikh Yakub, who is reportedly being moved to Baidoa, also welcomed the naming of the new official and promised to support the work of the new administration.

“I promise to work with the new administration that I believe will continue the good job that I have started when I was named to be the governor of this city. Today I assure you that this administration is going to be a good one for the people of this city,” he said.

CIA covert operation ni moto. Is Al Shabaab Alqaeda affiliate?
Who is arming and financing these groups? Who train them?

Alshabaab get there financing from the secret Halawa Network of loosely knit sharia fundamentalists who are all over the globe. Alqaeda, not quite sure.

Missing Kenyans resurface in Wajir
Two Kenyans who went missing when suspected Al Shabaab militia raided a police post in Wajir have resurfaced.

Wednesday night attack.
Local officials said the two escaped, as they were being driven away.

"They are very tired and we are still talking to them to get more details. It is a miracle to us but four are still missing," said a senior official.
The four, who include a local chief, a police officer, an intelligence officer, and a District Officer were abducted in an attack in Gerile town when more than 50 militants invaded.

The militants paraded the four in the town of Bardere in Gedo region, about 380km southwest of Mogadishu. Reports say they also displayed a vehicle they took during the raid on the town on the Kenya-Somalia border.

Communication equipment
The Kenyans and the vehicles were displayed in different neighbourhoods in the town before being taken to a local square, the reports said. The militants also disconnected all communication equipment with the outside world, fearing they may become victims of revenge air strikes.

The reports quoted the militants warning they would continue to raid towns inside Kenyan territory and carry out killings and abductions.
This is in retaliation for the military operation by the Kenya Defence Forces in Somalia. The Islamists invaded Gerille town and bombed the camp, reducing it to ashes.

Seven people, including police officers, were killed and three others injured.

Police Commissioner Mathew Iteere said about 100 bandits attacked Gerille Administration Police Post in Wajir South District at 6.30pm.
The bandits stole firearms, ammunition and a car from the post. "The bandits also burnt several houses within the post," Mr Iteere said.

Haji says no to Kismayu attack without back-up
Posted Sunday, January 15 2012 at 13:29

Kenya is unwilling to capture the port city of Kismayu without the financial and logistical backing of the international community.

Defence Minister Yusuf Haji told The EastAfrican that the country's military incursion into Somalia had created conditions that would allow the international community to help create lasting peace, but Kenya is unwilling to continue underwriting the financial burden of an open-ended war.

It is now emerging that Kenya considers its intervention in Somalia in October last year as a major service to the global War against Terror and expects logistical and financial support to complete the job of smashing the Al Shabaab and Al Qaeda networks.

The admission by Mr Haji seemed to reverse Kenya's stated military objective, which was predicated, on capturing Kismayu in order to undermine the financial base of Al Shabaab.

Mr Haji said the notion that Kenya's ultimate goal was Kismayu was imaginary. He said the Kenya Defence Forces had indicated that their main objective was to create a buffer zone by pushing Al Shabaab far enough from the country's borders to assure its national security.

"The Kismayu question is for the international community to decide. Kenya was not going to fix the entire Somalia problem since it has been a failed state for 20 years. We did not have the intention of going into Somalia if we were not provoked. We feel we have attained our intention of pushing Al Shabaab away from our borders," said Mr Haji.

His comments appear to be timed to take advantage not only of the approval by the UN Security Council of the African Union request that Kenya join Amisom, African Union Mission in Somalia, increasing the latter's troop levels to 17,700, but also of the withdrawal of US troops from Iraq.

ni kwasababu Kenya is an open society where this kind of news gets released and Ethiopia is not. Just because they don't release this news like Kenya does is not to say that these things do not happen.

That puts things in perspective, no? Wewe shida ulionayo ni kudhani eti kila kitu kinachotokea kwa media ndio hivyo tu na kile hakijatokea, basi hakijafanyika!
