Kenya declares war on Al Shabaab!

ni kwasababu Kenya is an open society where this kind of news gets released and Ethiopia is not. Hivi jana, kulikuwa na milipuko mizito ndani ya kambi ya Ethiopia kule Beledweyn na wanajeshi wao kadha waliuawa...

SomaliaReport: Explosion Rips Through Ethiopian Base in Hiran

Roadside bomb hits Ethiopian military convoy in central Somalia town – HadhwanaagPress

utasikia jeshi la Ethiopia wakisema chochote kuhusu jambo hili, au kuhusu wanajeshi wao walioaga? Ingekuwa Kenya hii, KDF ingekuwa ilishatoa habari halafu watu hapa wangekuwa wanasema vile Kenya iko weak.

Kenya demands unconditional release of four officials
By Cyrus Ombati and Boniface Ongeri

Kenya has demanded the release of four Government officials being held by Al Shabaab militants after a raid on a police post in Wajir.

The attack last week left six people dead.

After several meetings in Nairobi and North Eastern on Friday, it is understood the Government has sent a message to the militants to release the four unconditionally.

One meeting was attended by Internal Security Minister George Saitoti and his PS Francis Kimemia among others, while provincial commanders met in Garissa.

Sources say the Government is still mulling on the way forward given the bad blood between the militants and security agencies over the ongoing ‘Operation Linda Nchi’.

Two resurface

"Unlike in the past when we used to send elders to go and negotiate for the release of captives, we are in a dilemma for now, but we must get a solution. Already a message for their release has been sent," said a senior officer aware of the issue.

The militants have demanded that the Kenya Defence Forces leave Somalia before they can set the captives free.

Apart from the four, the whereabouts of two soldiers who were kidnapped last July is yet to be known.

Meanwhile, two of those who went missing during the attack have resurfaced. The local registrar and an Administration Police officer emerged on Friday evening, several hours after they had been kidnapped on Wednesday night.

They narrated how they escaped from captivity as they were being driven away.

MP’s concern

The captured, who include a local chief, a police officer, and a District Officer were paraded in the town of Bardhere, Gedo region, about 380km southwest of Mogadishu. They also displayed a vehicle they took.

Meanwhile, police have clarified that the hijacked Toyota Hilux double cabin was not a Government car, but had been hired for issuance of identity cards.

In the meantime, Nominated MP Mohammed Affey had raised concern over insecurity in North Eastern Province. "It is astonishing that a key exercise like identity card registration should have gone on without adequate security back-up," Affey said.

Operation Linda Nchi
Nairobi, Kenya
16.01.2012

Nairobi in arms shopping spree
Kenya's use in Somalia of attack helicopters from China, fighter jets from Jordan and armoured vehicles from Israel is evidence that the country has been upgrading its military capabilities in response to new threats.

The latest report by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (Sipri), analysing arms deals by African countries said that Operation Linda Nchi illustrates "the importance of arms imports for facilitating military responses to threats to security."

The Sweden-based global monitoring group also notes in its study of arms flows to black Africa that Kenya is showing "promising signs that transparency in arms procurement is developing."

However, the Kenyan military would not confirm reports that the air force has been shopping for superior, affordable, more easily serviceable fighter jets. Defence Minister Yusuf Haji said any comment on such matters would compromise the country's national security.

There have been whispers within local intelligence circles that Kenya has been negotiating with the United States for a grant to upgrade its fleet of fighter jets, with the F-15 being the main target.

The F-5Es currently in use in Somalia were acquired from Jordan for about $23 million, but experts argue they are now old and cannot serve Kenya's future security needs. There is also talk that Kenya could be given US military hardware that was used in Iraq.

Hapa unataka kumdanganya nani?

So how do you think Human Rights Watch, which has alraedy written twice about OLN, and The Muslim Human Rights Forum are gathering their data? Kenya does not prevent people/organisations from reporting and if they chose to collect data in these areas, as they have been, they are allowed.

kshaka,

Our friendly neighbors have no clue about what they are talking about. A 1979 skirmish with village thugs and pickpockets and they think they are experts in war...manchapu kweli kweli. The simple information you are having trouble getting across is not as obvious as we like to think. Cut them some slack.

You really have the nerves! I am yet to be impressed by KDF. They have so far shown to be a bunch of cowards.

Here is a suggestion: let your military leaders to sit back and take notes. Treat this operation as a free lesson at a military academy. They don't have to pay to come to Karen for training.

Seems like you are still a young chap.

Kenya Army has spelt out tough conditions before their much awaited match to Kismayu. The troops which are 3Km outside Afmadow, the second last stronghold City held by Alshabaab and which is expected to fall anytime soon, have also declared that they wont be interested in Joining AMISOM force in Somalia if they will be under the commander of a UPDF( Uganda People's Defence Force).Other trrops have also taken Hayo Town a Strategic City which in the past has ben used by Al Shabaab as route to transport Arms fro Baidoa enroute to Kismayu and Mogadishu

While mantaining that their soldiers would not be used to Keep peace, but to enforce peace.....KDF is also unhapy that after 4 Years of Uganda's Army in Mogadishu they are yet to secure the city from Al Shabaab.

Kenyan Airforce has been launching several airstrikes the latest being one which was carried out on Sunday Afternoon targeting to assasinate the Mayor of Jilib City which lies 130 North West of Kismayu. They bombed his house and its said that five people were killed but the mayor had left for the city a few Minutes before the jets hit his house

While reiterating that they are the best trained force in the region and they train soldiers from all countries in the region at their Millitary Academy in Karen, they have asked the international community to drop any ambition of them invading Kismayu if the international Community wouldnt provide money....as the Somalia problem is not a Kenyan problem rather an international problem

Millitary analysts belief that Kenya is using the above excuse at the right time. Its saiid that Kenya Army is scouting for Millitary equipment from the US Army as they leaving Iraq.Others are saying that they are protesting to the US Government for their denial to allow the Kenya Airforce purchase 32 F-16 Fighter jets from the USA......but the US Government went a head to allow Morroccan Airforce purchase the same Fighter Jets
