Al Shabab hawana silaha? Have definitions changed?

Salamu,

I wonder all this talk about East Africa and a common defence bla bla bla..... Kenya has been attacked and is involved in a war, but you do not see the top military men of east african states convene a meeting to discuss the military needs of Kenya. What kind of defence alliance is this?
I would have expected the defence ministers of the five countries to be meeting by now.... nothing. Are they waiting for an AID first?

Kenyans feel the heat as war on terrorism begins

By Bedah Mengo and Christine Lagat

NAIROBI, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- Kenyans are bracing themselves for tough times as threats of terror attack on the country's interests by Somali's al Shabaab militants hang over nation. Most Kenyans have started to feel the heat of the terror-attack threats as police intensify security and a crackdown on suspected al Shabaab sympathizers in the country.

For many Kenyans, the scenario that has started to play out, especially in Nairobi where al Shabaab vowed to bring down skyscrapers, is similar to what happened in America after the Sept. 11, 2001 attack.

Now, in Nairobi, there is loss of tranquillity and sense of security as people go about their businesses.

On the other hand, Kenyans have to endure all manner of surveillance as they walk around town, enter buildings and travel.

Authorities at various skyscrapers in the central business district in Nairobi have intensified scrutiny of both motorists and pedestrians.

Vehicles and people have to go through sensors, scanners and security checks that last for several minutes. Then, while in the buildings, cameras are there to monitor their movements.
...
And as Kenya police search for suspicious elements in Eastleigh and other parts of Nairobi, those feeling the heat more are citizens of Somali origin. "We are automatic suspects. Police suspect us for being Somali immigrants and al Shabaab sympathizers. Many Kenyan-Somalis are going to suffer during the swoops because once you are suspected, it is hard to prove that you are not an al Shabaab adherent," Adan Adow, resident of Eastleigh said on Thursday.

He said while he would be glad to see Kenya safer, the police should not use the opportunity to harass law-abiding citizens. "It is hard to differentiate between Somalis from Kenya and those from Somalia. We all look the same and each one of us has a sizeable population in Nairobi. We hope Kenyans will not be victimised," he said, adding that as the fight against al Shabaab insurgents heightens in Somalia, Kenya's journey on war on terrorism has just begun.

A true muslim does not speak like that.

Mara nyingi Askari Kanzu "anapotekenywa", hutekenyeka.

Lakini pia anaonekana hupoa kwa haraka. Ushauri mzuri uliompa.

Taswira za kitongoji cha Eastleigh "Isliii" (makazi ya wasomali Nairobi), "a city within a city".

[h=3]US Drones Coordinate Air Power For Kenyan Ground Invasion of Somalia[/h]he large troop deployment by Kenya into Somali territory is taking on the form of a full-scale invasion, rather than a temporary incursion as initially reported.

What is also emerging – but largely unreported – is that the US appears to be providing coordinated aerial firepower to help the advance of the Kenyan military against Al Shabab Islamic militants who have held power in the southern Somali territory.

Somalia's Transitional Federal Government, which was installed in 2009 with US support, has been battling against the militants for the past two years. Plagued by allegations of corruption and incompetence, the TFG has only managed to cling on to power in the capital, Mogadishu, thanks to diplomatic and military support from Washington and neighbouring US-allied countries, including Ethiopia and Kenya. Some 8,000 troops from Uganda and Burundi are stationed in Mogadishu to help stave off advances by Al Shabab from the southern hinterland where it holds sway.

Kenya's surprise military intervention in its eastern Horn of Africa neighbour on Sunday came only two days after the US launched deadly aerial drone attacks in southern Somalia. According to Press TV, the worst fatalities were in the town of Qoqani, 80 kilometres from the border with Kenya. Some 78 people were killed in that attack and scores of others injured.

Kenyan jets pound Shebab positions in Somalia

NAIROBI (AFP) – Kenyan jets struck in Somalia Wednesday in a bid to rid the border area of Islamist rebels blamed for a spate of abductions, including that of a French woman who died in captivity, officials said.
Kenyan ground troops guided by pro-government Somali forces prepared for a fresh assault against the Shebab insurgents with the blessing of the Western-backed government in Mogadishu and its Ugandan protectors.
Nairobi's unprecedented military incursion into Somalia, which it said had already killed dozens of Shebab fighters, triggered dire warnings by a top Shebab leader of bloody retaliation.

Kenya operation in Somalia must not be drawn out: Annan
Although Kenyan troops have made brief incursions into Somalia, this week's operation is on a much larger scale and increases the risk of dragging Nairobi deeper into Somalia's two-decade-old civil war, as well as reprisal attacks.

Speaking in Nairobi, Annan said the military campaign, which Kenya launched with support from Somali government forces on Sunday, would be difficult.
