The Webster dictionary defines fiasco as a complete failure of an organized event, having listened to dutch welle this afternoon it becomes apparent that there is a likelihood that the process might further polarize the country.

One block of contender is no longer confident with the manual process of counting. I have spent sometimes thinking how the election commission failed to have plan B in place so as to mitigate of what is happening, and whether it could be attributed to conspiracy. For Tanzanians is that the wake up call?

Let us discuss jf members

USA tried that electronic technology in 2000 elections and failed,.so forget it

Is not true I was here . It was only one state and less than a 1000 votes. In USA more than 100m people vote and the results are coming faster than Kenya

It is very easy to tamper with the votes when the election is conducted electronically; it happened in Florida and Al Gore was robbed of his victory by Walker Bush!!

bold:and those less than a 1000 votes decided the winner.the votes were counted manually and the winner was declared by supreme JUDGES,i repeat,it did fail indeed.

I don't think that is efficient. My own conviction is that when you organize a big event like let say your wedding here in Tanzania, there should be an alternative to power supply since Tanesco can not be trusted not to cut power. Having said that my conscience tells me that protecting the ballot box is uncivilized and not compatible with the dynamics of 21st century.

In many of the developing countries where power failure is endemic,it is neither uncivilized nor incompatible with 21st century dynamics to use the manual system; the system is user friendly and also relatively cheaper and can easily be integrated with modern technology in the form of mobile phones to relay confirmed and certified results from distant polling stations.

So what are you suggesting? should we keep on voting manually and protecting vote with pangas and spears? if that is the case you are guaranteeing CCM the victory since that is the opportunity they normally us to bring in fabricated votes during travelling of ballots to the counting centres.

At least you have suggested something, the day before yesterday i was thinking about that and i got the same idea that instead of using the more sophisticated technology in Africa we can resort to using mobile phones. For instance we can give task to electronic companies like Samsung or any other company to make a special mobile phone designed to send only one sms, after that sms signed through touch screen being sent to the main receiving centre, There should be more than one machine to receive the result so as to mitigate manipulation from unscrupulous individuals.
