How do u know it was a 'moja kwa moja' ban? That perhaps wasnt her first appearance on that forum, or if it was her first participation on the discussions there, it wasnt the first or even the fifth insults that earned her the ban. It must have gotten beyond the tolerable limits. That thread must have been awash with taunting and insulting comments, every response from her to a post challenging her comments must have come accompanied with sone harsh words.

Chip or bar code what's the difference? Both can't be read without a special equipment eg. chip reader or bar code reader. BTW, most of major economy US, UK, France, Germany, Japan they don't have chip on there driver's license. Those are expenses you can just do without.

Do you know why even ATM cards were upgraded and fitted micro chips instead of the black magnetic strip? Let alone bar codes. A bar code is literally shame, no difference with the old system, limited data can be obtained from a bar code. Plus they are so common, literally in every product you buy at your local supermarket, tissue papers and condoms have bar code as the price tag so how special are your licences really...

A card with chip stores information on the card, a card with barcode stores information on main frame computer or server (both digitally). Bank chose to use Chip n Pin to add extra security on there cards reason being bank card holds someone's fortune. What information would you want to make it so secured on someone's driving license? their eligibility to drive, their blood type, their height, male or female, address, organ donation...what else? And all that can not be stored on single barcode or QR code which can store anything from 1 to 2000 characters?

Someone in your procurement dept needs to answer to Kenyans why S/he chose an expensive option rather cheap alternative. Country like France they've abandon their planned chip drivers license for the same reason, ....expensive.

Haha, but I'm sure your familiar that one thread can have several argument's. My argument was, what is the difference btwn smart card and barcode card. They both hold someone's information, one in the card itself, another in the main server. And if you look closely, you'll realise you don't need expensive smart card to know if someone is eligible to drive or not. Unless your planning to use the same card as bank card, voters card, door entry card, and marriage certificate and collecting store bonus points [emoji23]

No, if you go back to your original post no37 you'll see what was my argument. Smart card and barcode are both digital but they work differently. Even your supermarket product with barcode can not be read without a special scanner. Smart card also you'll need a scanner to read. There technology are digital because the information is stored in binary or hexadecimal. And I don't buy that barcode isn't secure, because even smart card can be clone and create a duplicate.

Kenyan motorists will later this month switch to use of digital driving licences, whose rollout is expected to begin ahead of the August 8 elections.

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) Tuesday said 100,000 of the smart cards have been made in readiness for distribution to motorists.

The NTSA, which is progressively digitising its operations, has acquired 500 card readers to decode user information and traffic offences history. The information will be recorded in a chip that is embedded in the plastic card.

The card comes loaded with points to be deducted every time a motorist commits a traffic offence. Repeat offenders who will have exhausted their points will permanently lose their licences, have them confiscated temporarily, pay spot fines or be made to attend refresher driving classes.
