Kenya: The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) wants the Government to present the
country with a road map for the withdrawal of Kenyan soldiers from Somalia.

ODM said in the aftermath of the second terror attack since the Government launched the war
on terror, hundreds of Kenyans have continued to lose their lives, a situation the party said is getting out of hand.

ODM acting leader Anyang’ Nyong’o demanded that the Government should table a road map for a secure Kenya and a stable Somalia.

The Opposition party also demanded a plan which expedites the training of Somali forces to
take charge of their country and for
accelerating Somalia’s economic development, particularly through infrastructure that gives Somalis a stake in achieving a better future........

Kenya haitatulia hadi hapo Wasomali watatulia maana wapo hapa wetu ambao wanawapa makao wale. Wakati ndio huu na tena sasa, wanayoyafanya tuliyatarajia, kurusha vilipuzi kwenye daladala uswazi hata ni kidogo, wengi tulihofia watayaangusha magorofa na kufanya maafa makubwa.

Kwa suala la ulinzi, I am for Jubilee!

lawmaina78 let me tell you this, while you're fighting for kenya to impress americans, your enemy fights for somali to impress ALLAH,so it's a one war with different ideologies.

lawmaina78 let me tell you this, while you're fighting for kenya to impress americans..
Last time I checked...ODM Leader, Raila Odinga, then Prime Minister of Kenya was an architect of this war in Somali land...so why blame Jubilee for the mess they have created?they should know better..

I can bet you didn't read a sentence from my comment. Somalia problem is far more than removal of KDF. We are not at war with Somalia or Somalis. Actually there are millions of Somalis vowing to get out of that country as soon KDF shows signs of exiting. Several other countries have been there but only KDF managed to make a difference. KDF's success was possible because it comprises of enlisted Kenyan Somalis and in their thousands. These Kenyan Somali soldiers have managed to integrate with local Somalia community, befriended them and are working together against Alshabaab. This explains why others failed and Alshabaabs are as bitter as hell.

The day KDF pulls out of Somalia is the day these blood-thirsty Satan worshiping terrorists will celebrate victoriously. The KDF must stay the course and stomp out this threat to regional security. It's KDF steadfast resilience and discipline that is causing the enemy to resort to desperate measures through the targeting of innocent civilians. What a bunch of cowards! I am appalled by CORD's sissy call for KDF's pull out from Somalia. Politics aside, terrorists kill indiscriminately. If you pull out the bearded terrorist will have won. We can't let that happen. No freaking way.

More by this Author Kenya will not be intimidated by terrorists and will not withdraw troops from Somalia, Deputy President William Ruto has said.

The statement comes a day after two blasts that killed three people and left 86 others injured on Sunday evening in Nairobi. (READ: Terror returns to Kenyan capital)

"The Government will not allow terrorists to dictate or blackmail us into changing our local or foreign policy. We will not withdraw until Somalia has a stable and secure government free from terror," Mr Ruto said on Monday.

The Deputy President said recalling Kenyan troops will provide a safe haven for criminals to recruit and arm terrorists in Somalia who will eventually pose an even greater risk to Kenya and the region.

"Because of the remarkable success of our effort in Somalia, al Shabaa operational bases have been substantially weakened," he said.

SOFT TARGETS

According to the Deputy President, Al-Shabaab are unable to confront the country's security agencies directly and have resorted to soft targets to pressure Kenya into relenting and withdrawing from Somalia.

"The Kenya Defence Forces was deployed into Somalia to dismantle Al Shabaab operations, networks, training and indoctrination bases, which posed grave danger to Kenya and the region.

"But the singular fact that cannot be denied is that our troops in Somalia have greatly destabilised Al Shabaab's operations and created relative peace and security in that country," Mr Ruto added.

He was speaking during a Press conference at his office on Harambee Avenue in Nairobi on Monday.

SUSPECTS OUT ON BOND

The Deputy President also urged the Judiciary to be firm in the war against terrorism.

He said records indicate that many terror suspects have absconded bail and put themselves beyond the reach of law enforcement.

Some of the suspects named are Fuad Abubakar Maswab, who is believed to have fled to Somalia whilst out on a Sh10 million bond and his co-accused Jermaine John Grant who had been arrested while in possession of explosives.

Mr Ruto also noted that two other suspects Jamal Mohamed Awadh and Suleiman Mohammed Sayyed were similarly on bond and their families confirmed that they both died on May 3, 2014, while executing a bomb attack in Mombasa.

"Those who have fled to Somalia intend to continue their terror activities. While they are abroad, the cases against them cannot proceed, seriously impairing the quest for justice and law enforcement," he said.

At least 22 people are said to be terrorism suspects out on bond operating freely among the innocent and peaceful citizens.

VIGILANT CITIZENS

Mr Ruto warned that the Government is aware of the existence a local network of sympathisers and facilitators residing among the general population and just like terrorists, they will face consequences.

The National Security Intelligence, National Police Service and Criminal Investigations Department were noted as a coherent, indivisible operation and Mr Ruto said said because of this synergy, innumerable criminal activities-including planned terror attacks- have been disrupted.

"Our collective security is a shared responsibility; every person must play his or her part in maintaining unwavering vigilance. All arms of Government must play their full part, and every citizen must also fulfill their patriotic obligations, " Mr Ruto said.

He reiterated the need for Kenyans to take a keen interest in what is going on around them, and be ready to provide information to security agencies on suspicious activities.

The Kenyan regime could prove very gullible ideologically to the machinations of Al Shabaab. Remember, Kenyans in the north and among sections of the country's Muslim population may be vulnerable and even receptive to overtures from pro-Al Qaeda and Al Shabaab elements who may portray the conflict with the Kenyan state in RELIGIOUS terms as a Jihad against pro-Western infidels headquartered in Nairobi. There have been credible reports of KENYANS being recruited or acting as recruiters for both Al Shabaab and Al Qaeda.

Tactically it might not be very wise to unleash all this machismo and braggadocio with reckless talk of "bring it on" or "We are not withdrawing our troops"....Lets remember, the kind of people who join outfits like Al Shabaab see themselves as martyrs to higher spiritual causes who are quite ready and more than willing to strap themselves with explosives and blow themselves up as suicide bombers so it will take more than threats of tanks and fighter jets to cow them into abject submission.

Meanwhile has anyone been arrested, tried and convicted for any of the 'terrorist attacks' on Kenyan soil?....and how many of these attacks have taken place so far?

Its time we got serious with the security within Kenya than without. It doesn't take nuclear science to figure this out.

Dr Job.

For the first time you sound patriotic and sober and I've managed to read your post/comment word by word to the end and agreed fully.
As for suspects being convicted, if you heard Ruto, there are quite a number who have been arrested and released on bail only to blow themselves or vanish. So our judicial system is not helping either.

Committee opposes KDF recall from Somalia

By Alphonce Shiundu

Nairobi, Kenya: The National Assembly's Defence and Foreign Relations Committee Tuesday told the Jubilee administration not to withdraw Kenya's forces from Somalia, despite mounting pressure from the opposition.

The vice-chairman of the committee, Barre Shill (Fafi) told a news conference at Parliament buildings that if the Jubilee Government got the Kenyan military out of the conflict-ridden Somalia, then Kenya will be seen to be "weak and cowardly".

"We're telling the Government of Kenya that they should never even dream of withdrawing the troops from Somalia," said Shill.

Mr Shill was at the press conference with MPs John Lodepe (Turkana Central), Ibrahim Sane (Garsen) and Elisha Busienei (Turbo).

"If our troops are there (in Somalia) and they (Al-Shabaab) have been hitting us, what do you think will happen when they (Kenyan military) leave? We'll look cowardly and vulnerable," said Shill.

He added: "Some people think when we withdraw our troops from Somalia, Al Shabaab will sit back and say "Thank You Kenya!" No! They will not. This is an ideological war.

"Al Shabaab wants to instill fear in people so that you cannot go into the bus, into a mall or in the church. We cannot agree to that," Shill said.

Shoddy Job

The lawmakers, whose committee investigated last year's Westgate Mall terror attack, were at pains to explain why their report on Westgate – which had recommendations on how to tackle terror in the country – was thrown out because of what the National Assembly said was "a shoddy job".

Lodepe added: "If we get our troops out of Somalia, it will show that we are going down as a country. It will show that we are weak. Tunataka wakae huko ndio dunia ijue Kenya iko imara (We want them to stay there so the world will know Kenya is strong)."

Shill, Sane, Busienei and Lodepe said the Judiciary should lock up all terror suspects, until they are sure beyond reasonable doubt "that these people are not involved in terrorism".

Judiciary reaches out to security chiefs amid blame

By Cyrus Ombati

Nairobi, Kenya: The Judiciary has started engaging other arms of government on how the current security situation should be handled.

Chief Justice Willy Mutunga had asked for a meeting between the Judiciary and the National Security Council (NSC) to discuss violent crimes, terrorism and administration of justice. However, the meeting is yet to be held.

The revelations came shortly after Deputy President William Ruto criticised magistrates and judges for releasing terror suspects on bond, thus impeding the war on terror.

However, in a letter to the Interior Principal Secretary Mutea Iringo, Chief Registrar of Judiciary Anne Amadi said the proposed meeting that is aimed at discussing the interface between national security and the administration of justice should exclude both the President and his deputy.

"The Judiciary believes that the discharge of its constitutional mandate is better served by a greater understanding of the broader social context within which it operates. This is what informs Judiciary's constant engagements with government agencies, business, civil society and academia mostly through the mediation of the Judiciary Training Institute (JTI)," reads part of the letter dated April 28.

Amadi said it is important for judicial officers to understand the imperatives and challenges of national security and that the proposed meeting will afford the other two arms of the Government an invaluable forum to share perspectives on the critical issue in public interest.

She added the CJ had asked the JTI to convene and host the Judiciary-NSC session at a date to be mutually agreed upon and in consultation with the council, agree on the method, structure and duration of the meeting.

Suspects flee

The letter revealed the CJ has in the past held consultations with the Director General of NIS, Chief of Kenya Defence Forces and the Inspector General of Police on the issue of security and justice.

It was copied to Cabinet Secretaries for Interior, Defence, Foreign Affairs, the Commader of the Defence Force, Director General of NIS, AG Githu Muigai, the Inspector General of the Police, head of public service Joseph Kinyua and director of JTI Prof Joel Ngugi.

Ruto however called on the Judiciary to be a strong partner in the war against terror. "We call on all players in the justice, law and order sector to stand with Kenyans," he said.

The idea of not releasing suspect on bond is that most of them are using the opportunity to blow themselves in public places. I doubt Ruto had such intentions when released.

Lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi claims his life is in danger

Nairobi, Kenya: Lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi now claims his life is in danger and has asked police to arrest and prosecute his colleague Donald Kipkorir over the death threats.

Ahmednasir said he is not a coward even as he recorded a statement with the CID on Thursday saying Kipkorir made a post on his Facebook account saying he (Ahmednassir) will be killed by the Kalenjin people for insulting their leader DP William Ruto.

“I don’t take death threats lightly. Every sentence in his post on Facebook is threatening and I am here to set a good example,” said Ahmedinassir.

He recorded a statement with the deputy CID director Gideon Kimilu and demanded the arrest and prosecution of Kipkorir. His lawyer Paul Muite was present.

The drama apparently started on Wednesday night when Kipkorir made a post on his Facebook account explaining that Ahmednassir had abused many people including Ruto.

He concluded in his message saying “fare thee well friend”.

“Don’t say I didn’t warn you that when you thought you heard people cheering you for being a hero they may in fact have been cheering you because you offered them entertainment and distraction from their daily problems. Fare three well friend,” read part of the post.

And after the message was posted on Facebook, Ahmednassir said his friends called him seeking to know if he was aware of the same.

“I checked from a friend and saw it before I sent him a message asking him to know if he was aware he had threatened me with death. Instead, he replied saying he did not know I was such a coward,” added Ahmednasir.

On Thursday, Kipkorir denied he had threatened his colleague. On his part, Ahmednassir said he had no bad blood with Kipkorir but added he wants police to investigate and take action.

Muite said Kipkorir’s action is a show of impunity which he argued must be stopped at all costs.
